Baby owl is rescued and has his first bath
The Stygian Owl (Asio stygius) is also known as the “devil’s owl,” thanks to its horn-like tufts.
Other notable physical traits that distinguish this bird: the long, slender build of its body and its dusky plumage. The nocturnal bird has a wide range that includes parts of Mexico, Cuba, Honduras, and Brazil. It tends to inhabit montane forests, where it feeds on bats, small mammals, and birds.

Happy #NationalBirdDay! Bird watching is one of my pastimes and living next to @evergladesnps makes that endeavor all the more fruitful. I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that EVER’s Barred Owls are among my favorite subjects to photograph, among others. When I was in 4th grade I wanted to be an ornithologist. 20 years later…. it didn’t exactly happen but I’m still happy that my love of owls endures.

Barred Owl.
Went for hike around sunset and as I was walking, I heard the Owl calling. It’s the 1st time I’ve ever heard a Barred Owl call in person. I got excited because I figured it was active, since it was close to sunset. I couldn’t locate it immediately, but I kept hearing it. Then I saw movement! It flew to several trees, where it was covered so I wasn’t able to get a clear shot. Literally I was able to get these shots, 12 minutes before complete sunset. It flew on a clear branch, but I still had to shoot through a small opening behind some branches from where I stood, because I didn’t want to move too much and make it fly elsewhere. This is my best photo of a Barred Owl so far. Definitely happy with this one!
