“Biyi Night Tour: the Local Unlimited Landscapes”
2020-2021, digital, mixed media
In the year 756, General An Lushan defeated the troops of Emperor MingHuang, whose excessive love for his beautiful concubine Yang caused imperial duties to be neglected. The empress, known as the Beauty of Jade, was falsely accused of treason and executed. Forced into exile, MingHuang the Shining wasted away in lamentation. Months and years passed without this feeling disappearing. After six years of exile from his lands, the fallen emperor, whose passionate love remained immeasurable and pain inconsolable, was back in the Yunnan Valley. But the memory of his breathtaking beauty was still too present there and made his life without her unbearable. Alas, like a lost soul, he went in desperation to the magic mountain, with the mad hope of seeing his sweetheart again beyond the gates of Di-Yu, the Realm of the Dead…
Based on the well-known and evocative legend of the inseparable lovebird Biyi of China, this comic book derived from the background of the game. It tells the story of the Emperor Li Longji and Concubine Yang, who transformed into a pair of souls and travelled through ancient times, guiding villagers to fly over the gorges of a remote village in Yunnan to find the long-lost oasis of modern people.

A series of illustrations for an international tender
A series of illustrations for an International bidding project, on a city viewing platform in a moutain contry park. The team consists of professionals from all over the world, including 3 landscape architects, 1 architect, 1 graphic designer, 1 artist/illustrator, that is me. In this project, I gave some suggestions from the perspective of humanities and the overall situation. Shown here is my work for this bidding project. The team chose one of my images as the main panorama page of their bidding documents.

Picture Story Award, from Coloros Illustration Awards 2020, China
In 10th March Chinese Le Hua lock screen channel, they used the painting that I won the Picture Story Award, and the accompanying text is by evangelist and motivational speaker Nick Vujicic who born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of arms and legs : “If there is no miracle, let yourself be a miracle.” Also a quote from Francis Bacon “Deeply observe your heart, you will find out that all miracles come actually from yourself”. Bacon, the father of modern science, also had an ill-fated life, yet his writings were calm, restrained and pious. He said, “Miracles often occur in bad luck."

✨Little fox and the red fish • Coloredpencils on watercolor paper✨ I admit that drawing the sky was really challenging. I may work on it again later, but I thought I could share this illustration anyway. I tried other techniques and made some interesting experiments here, trying to play and adjust the values for better contrats. I hope it worked a little, even if I still have to improve. I also have some ideas for these two characters, especially the little fox. Where are they going ?

This time I decided to use a different technique that I really like but don’t use very often. Actually I was searching for a way to use a « grisaille » under the colored pencils for my new project. As I was experimenting this illustration just arised and I had to draw it! I really enjoyed working on light, shadows, textures and details. I hope you will like it even if this is not my usual technique.
