#patreon rewards
Part of the “New works of Basil Hallward” comic I’m posting in installments to Patreon, a story about the painter of the Dorian Gray portrait who gets his own (mis)adventures through the decades, all of which contradicts part of the original story of course. It will be the first Secret Knots story this year.
Since I reblogged recently the comic The Move (a Lydia Ray story), thought I’d share the Patreon “dossier” post, with sketches and story notes. Here’s the public (free access) post.
Tips from this example: use duplicated Color Burn layers to enhance color. Use textured layers for a natural media painted look. Try adding top layers in Color Mode to make palettes richer. And paint with black over a layer mask, if there are areas you don’t like from any of those.
Also, remember the Halloween treat on my Patreon is just beginning, and you can still jump in to get your portraits as a ghost.
Given the nice feedback that the comic about Basil Hallward, painter of the Picture of Dorian Gray is getting, I thought some of you may want to take a look at the process behind it, so I set the Patreon dossier about it for public access (free).
The dossier post includes initial concepts, sketches, photo references and even further world building ideas.
Feel free to reblog for other artists and writers who may be interested in process diaries. And thanks for sharing my comic!
Jim!
This little sketch is the Mini-Print artwork for Patreon this month. I don’t typically do fandom-related things for patreon rewards but I couldn’t resist :) Join before the end of May and I’ll send you one!
