gregorygalloway:

Easy Rider premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on 12 May 1969, before its official release in July.

Written by Peter Fonda and Terry Southern (Dennis Hopper also received credit, although Southern disputed that Hopper contributed much to the final script) and directed by Hopper with a budget of less than $1.5 million (about $1 million of which went to licensing music), the film received the Prix de la première œuvre (Best First Film) at Cannes and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson). William Goldman received the writing award for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Gig Young received the acting award for his performance in They Shoot Horses Don’t They.

Easy Rider was a huge box office success, earning more than $60 million dollars worldwide, and ending the year as the 3rd highest-earning film in the US (behind Butch CassidyandMidnight Cowboy).

“Idaho Transfer” (1973).

Directed by Peter Fonda, it’s a bleak movie where the government in present day uses a time machine to send young people to an ecologically ruined future to rebuild society. Only people under 20 survive the transfer.
