“Pequé de silencio ante ti y ante mí. Cuando el silencio se instala dentro de una casa, es muy difícil hacerlo salir; cuanto más importante es una cosa, más parece que queramos callarla. Parece como si se tratara de una materia congelada, cada vez más dura y masiva: la vida continúa por debajo, sólo que no se la oye. Woroïno estaba lleno de un silencio que parecía cada vez mayor y todo silencio está hecho de palabras que no se han dicho. Quizás por eso me hice músico. Era necesario que alguien expresara aquel silencio, que le arrebatara toda la tristeza que contenía para hacerlo cantar. Era preciso servirse para ello, no de palabras, siempre demasiado precisas para no ser crueles, sino simplemente de la música, porque la música no es indiscreta y cuando se lamenta no dice por qué. Se necesitaba una música especial, lenta, llena de largas reticencias y sin embargo sin embargo verídica, adherida al silencio para acabar por meterse dentro de él. Esa música ha sido la mía.
