Bheso: Kid'to Leech

These leeches are a yautja’s foreman in length, and swim in the muck-thick waters of the Kid'to swamplands. Their long tendrils help them find prey. Kid'to keep dozens of these at a time by keeping each in a protective bag filled with water that they stuff them in and hanging them by their tails in a row inside their houses. Ideally, already filled with yautja blood they will use to experiment their toxic concoctions on. So long as the leech remains still, it will not consume the blood it has harvested.

Kupeesa: “Dahk Centaur” Large, multi-legged animals thrive in the jagged mountains of the valley and are masters of the incline. Both males and females are horned, and the larger, more experienced specimens defend their territories at the highest peaks where it is safest.

Despite their bulk, they are fast and can run and jump across the mountains at incredible speeds. Their smaller limbs help grab ahold while they graze on mossy cliff walls, and pull branches to their mouths. The bony marrow of their single split horn is prized for its durability.

Quickest thing in the world of adult Baran-de, Masurao and Jagged-Tooth’s first child together.

First Guardian Vahyadu the Vast

Founder of the biotic temple. He died long before Jagged-Tooth ever went there to study, passing more than a millennia ago as an ancient and venerated Yautja.

Isei and I were talking about fat yautja after she drew hers, and egged me on to draw one, haha. I like the idea of Vahyadu being large, because I wrote that a lot of biotic yautja are very thin because they expend a lot of energy to use their powers. He doesn’t worry about that.

The concept of fat yautja is neat and it makes sense to me. You’ve had large people who were athletes and warriors all throughout history, and size doesn’t mean you can’t be strong or agile.

Okay so my impulse thought was “fat/big yautja”. because why is it that all yautja currently on media are slim and well-built?
where are the sumo wrestler types? the log-lifter competitor strong men type? the simply ‘lives a spoiled life because of high ranking reasons’ type?

Speaker Masks

Speakers of a clan, elders, etc, when discussing delicate matters with other clans and their representatives/leaders, would wear these ‘masks’ that cover their mandibles to hide any telltale movements of them that could betray what they’re *really* feeling towards either what they are saying, or what they are hearing. Thus keeping their intent, if any, known only to themselves.

There are modern designs, of course, but many chose traditional covers. Some are simple in appearance, others are ridiculously intricate.

Code Red!

Masurao, now a recent mother, is still on treatment on the Normandy with @crispy-ghee ‘s crew, and while everyone is instructed to give mom and pup a WIDE berth, people tend to believe there’s more wiggle room than there really is. When Baran-de squirms out of mom’s sight and gets into things he shouldn’t, a crewmember yanks the pup away, causing him to cry out in pain. Maternal instincts kick in HARD and Masurao goes on a rampage in the ship to get her pup back, targeting anyone she sees as a threat.

With Jagged-Tooth away on a job, Cousin steps up to handle the situation in lieu of his son. Centuries of experience makes him the best suited, but a dangerous female is still a dangerous female. The best he can probably hope for is to distract her and tire her out. But it’s that or risk her killing more crewmembers or destroying the ship. He’s a strong old warrior, though, he’ll probably survive.

Pretty much, yeah! Kinda like a capybara + pony + boar

My line of thought was: “Why are ‘alien’ creatures always designed so extra? + I like the juxtaposition of something that looks inoffensive being actually dangerous.”

I mean, all that an ‘alien’ animal needs to be is just… not from Earth, right? So, there, just as in a lot of places in our world where bigger and meaner is not always better, so does Prime probably have animals that are small and look pretty bland, but don’t underestimate them because they’ve managed to survive in Prime for a reason.

Nethgans are suited for their environment, and are decent enough at warding off predators in their ecosystem. That’s all they really need to be a successful specie. They are compact, energy efficient omnivores, with a big kick, and will put up a decent fight before going down.

The Koroth’Ul march to the Datlokh valley to ‘return’ what Kalt’nde lost in their territory. And how they manage to track them down. Of the Koroth’Ul, it is Ghunauk that challenges the Datlokh commander.

crispy-ghee:

The Koroth'Ul vs the Datlokh - Commander Kalt'nde

When the Koroth'Ul attack the Datlokh border, Kal is at the forefront of the Dakh army opposition. He seeks to regain honor in this battle, as he was the one who had, through a terrible slip up, led them to their territory. He will make penance, either by protecting his homeland in triumph, or by dying in service to it.

Luckily he’s a fucking tank and will break your neck like a twig if you get too close to him, as an unlucky Koroth'Ul warrior was quick to find out.

The Koroth'Ul belong to @isei-bleeds

Masurao and Jagged-Tooth aresweet to each other sometimes. Usually she is lounging on him, but sometimes he likes to lounge on her.

A quick and messy thing for Valentines Day! Enjoy some monsters in love!

Masurao belongs to @isei-bleeds

Masurao demands physical affections and much like a stubborn cat Jagged-Tooth eventually learns to enjoy it.

(but they love each other, honest!)

Saurodon - a sword eel

Mounted reconstruction on display at the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center,  Woodland Park, Colorado

Reconstruction by Charles Bonner

When: Cretaceous (~ 89 - 83 million years ago)

Where: North America

What:Saurodon is one of the large fish which swam though the Cretaceous Seaway, the marine waters that covered much of North America during the late Mesozoic. This particular species was ‘only’ about 8.5 feet (~2.6 meters) long, with a relatively skinny body and large pointed lower jaw. These features are what gives the family Saurodontidae the nick-name 'sword eels’. The Saurodontidae fall into the later group Ichthyodectidae, a completely extinct clade that contains some of the largest fish on record. Today the living relatives of these gigantic fishes are in the clade Osteoglossomorpha and are some of the largest bony fish that swim though today’s waters.

This was not a very specious group - there are only three described species - but they have been known to science for almost two-hundred years. The first Saurodontidaewas named in 1824 by Richard Harlan (the discover of Harlan’s ground sloth) - but was misidentified as the jaw of an extinct marine reptile. This was corrected only six years later when the first Saurodon specimen was found, and it was clear that the fragmentary specimen which was previously named belonged to a large fish, not a marine reptile. The use of the long lower jaw in Saurodon and its kin is not well understood, but it has been hypothesized that perhaps these predatory fish dug prey out from the deep muds at the bottom of the seaway.

Kronosaurus

Mounted specimen on display at Harvard Museum of Natural History

Reconstruction by Jaime Chirinos

When: Cretaceous (~ 125 - 99 million years ago)

Where: Australia

What:Kronosaurus is an australian plesiosaur. Yes, it is a plesiosaur even though it lacks the long neck that many people associated with the group. Plesiosauria is roughly divided into two groups;  Plesiosauroidea - the long necked forms and Pliosauroidea - the short necked forms. Kronosaurus is an example of the latter clade, and shows many of the defining features of this group - such as an enormous head with massive jaws, a short neck, and a relatively short tail- the opposite in many ways of their cousins the plesiosauroids. This australian sea monster was one of the largest of its clade, with estimates of up to 33 feet long (~10 meters). Its teeth reach almost 5 inches (~12 cm ) long in crown length - the part above the gumline. The total tooth would have been over double in size. The large size of its teeth, combined with distinct shape and the lack of clear cutting surfaces also  for their easy identification if they are found as isolated material.

The Kronosaurusspecimen seen above was found in on private property in central Queensland, Australia in the 1920s. A crew from Harvard was shown where the specimen was weathering out, and set about excavating the fossil. After years of work, the specimen was boxed up into over 80 crates, weighing in at over 6 tons and shipped to the states, where it was mounted at the Harvard museum. Decades later the original discoverer of the material finally got the see the results of the preparation and mounting of what he termed ‘his dinosaur’ at the age of 93. In life Kronosaurus was a top predator; there are fossils of Elasmosauridae plesiosaurs that show bite wounds that could have come from Kronosaurus! No fish for this animal, it was after much bigger prey, leading to amazing plesiosaur vs plesiosaur encounters. Or so I like to imagine!
