Stygian has Magic-Based Complex Hypographia or MBCH (pronounced Ehm-Buhck verbally) which dates back to when he was a full-time scholar. A little while after season 7’s finale he became friends with Sunburst and began working under Queen Cadence in keeping documentation of the natural/non-magic phenomena around the Crystalline City, (yes I know it’s called an empire but it’s so tiny it might as well be a city imo) and commonly uses his work as a means to cope.
