PHANTOM OF THE OPERA #5 PROCESS SKETCHES: RAOUL AND DUSTY
Every design aspect of Raoul had to contradict Phantom; he has everything Phantom has ever wanted. He is rich, healthy and young with a handsome face, all grown up but still naive, even more than Christine. One of my instructors commented that Raoul and Christine are the young and new generation, where others are not. So his ‘tux’ has a design closer to the contemporary ones. I actually even pushed further with the design and color but he started looking like he’s from a different time period so had to step back again.
I also gave him a greyhound named Dusty who would keep going to the opposite direction Raoul wanted to go, as a comic relief and also to emphasize a sense of clumsiness in him. I don’t even know if dogs were allowed to go into the opera house though.

Well, I barely survived my first semester as an animation student, though I still have 3 tests ahead yikes.
