Revision Challenge
Take a few pages of your draft. Go through each sentence, highlight any that are in passive voice, and rewrite them to be in active voice.
The goal of this exercise is to eliminate as much passive voice as possible. Remember, passive voice is when the action is performed upon the subject of the sentence. Active voice is when the subject of the sentence performs the action. Active voice is easier to understand. There are occasions when passive voice is appropriate, but you should try to use active voice as often as possible.

Revision Challenge
Take two characters from the same work and line up only their dialogue side-by-side. Can you tell who is speaking based on just their dialogue? If not, revise it! If you aren’t sure, this is a great exercise to review with a peer.
The goal of this exercise is to make sure your characters speak in such a way that each character is recognizable without the need of speech tags.
