New IFS research today shows that the average debt a student has on graduating university has risen to over £50,000. For the students coming from the lowest income families, this can be as much as £57,000 with £5,800 of that purely from interest accrued since starting their courses.
Under the Conservative government, student loans have been increased from £3,000 per year to £9,000 per year. Maintenance grants for low-income students have been replaced by extra loan allowance. Student loans are set to increase in line with inflation (or by £250 per year) for the foreseeable future, starting in September, regardless of teaching quality.
The IFS sees only two winners from the current system, and it’s certainly not the students who benefit. Students earning the minimum amount of repayments - which has been frozen at £21,000 for several years - are estimated to be 30% worse off than their equivalents under the old loan system. No, the only beneficiaries are the universities (although not 90% of their employees) and the government.

thought i’d kick off my return by sharing what i’m listening to while i study. today i’m doing research for a case study for my politics of the middle east module, and i’m enjoying the summery aesthetic of the magic gang with the few days of sunshine we seem to be getting at the minute!

Honestly finding it quite hard to focus because it’s rather monotonous, but has to be done. Getting increasingly worried for mocks as I run out of time. But we struggle through!
27/03/2018 An old revision sheet on functions! It is already the second half of the first week of the break, time flies! I hope I manage to fit all my revisions in the break despite the unreasonable travellings I’ll be doing at the same time -_- How do you guys organise your revisions for May exams?
Taking advantage of the nice lighting :) focussing on chemistry atm as it’s probably my biggest concern currently, but hopefully I’ll be able to remedy my issues with it before the exams
I did lots of important scary form-filling yesterday to sort out my firm/insurance unis, finance and accommodation - it’s definitely real now! Today I’m back to revision and listening to some U2, who I keep saying I want to get more into :)
Continuing the statistics chapter before school starts again tomorrow - I’m both nervous for the revision grind and glad to have the scheduled days back. I’m not celebrating anything (besides having an Easter egg haha) but happy holidays to those of you who are

i’ve been struggling a lot more than usual with my mental health recently - depression and anxiety/ocd wise - and i’m struggling so much to keep going but i’m just about plodding on i guess. it was around this time last year that i almost got forced into hospital and my eating disorder was at its worst. and i feel like i have not got anywhere over the past year because i’ve almost ended up in hospital twice in the past month and feel like i’m getting worse every day but at the same time i just can’t tell because i’m so phased out??? i feel like this ended up as some kind of rant lol sorry
