@rkyjun

he was never a slow eater, so he was able to swallow down his food fast before he hears the compliment given from jaemin. otherwise, jaemin wouldn’t be the only one dying from a bowl of noodles. “you are too kind,” he says, stuffing his mouth with more noodles. as he gets it all in his mouth, he tries to talk without showing his mouth of noodles so that jaemin doesn’t get to see seefood(that’s a good one). “you’re good-lookin’ too, bro! don’t be sho hard on yourshelf.”he manages to swallow down the food and he speaks clearly now. “i don’t think i have much idol potential anyway.” thanks to mom and dad, anyway. he’s stillin his music writing block. “we can be nobodies in peace.”

While Jaemin and Yeonjun are bros, Jaemin always is eager to try his best at keeping things interesting. Lately he hasn’t had much to talk about with classes and all. To be honest, things are usually slow in his life so he appreciates that Yeonjun’s eyes seem to get a twinkle in them, even if it’s just about Convex. He eagerly nods along as he listens to his friend muse about their stylist. Suddenly Jaemin remembers a phrase his sister Hayun would say: “You can’t style a good looking face without a good base!” He blurts it out without thinking. “I mean, those guys are naturally handsome. You and them both have that good base. Their music is good but they could probably win just on looks alone. It’s somewhat unfair,” he thinks out loud. Flipping his hair, he frames his face, “Some of us have to work for these beautiful looks.”

He raises an eyebrow at his friend’s lack of claim to fame. “You sure you don’t have that potential? I think you do!” He puts his head in his hands as he thinks. “I wouldn’t mind being a nobody with you bro but…” Jaemin trails off his sentence. “What are we missing to get us that potential?” Yeonjun’s has the looks and Jaemin doesn’t think he’s half-bad looking himself. Is it just natural talent? As Jaemin thinks, he plays with a noodle in his bowl using his chopstick. “Is it something that people are born with?” He pouts to himself. If that’s the case, then he’s screwed! Frustrated with that idea, Jaemin puts his head in his hands. “Come on, man! We gotta do something!” He grumbles both to Yeonjun and somewhat to himself.

As dejected as he looks, Jaemin’s brain is really running a marathon. As ideas zoom through his head, he tries to come up with the best solution. Jaemin may seem illogical but he is a computer scientist. Logic is a key component to being successful in the field and luckily Jaemin’s brain always tries to find a logical solution. When he finally manages to grasp at a logical but somewhat ridiculous idea, he shoots up in his chair. “I got it!” There’s a saying to match his thought but he just can’t seem to put his finger on it. If you can’t beat them… If you can’t beat them, try frying them? “We gotta go turn ourselves into idols, Yeonjun. First things first, we gotta dress the part.” He shoots him a playful smile and extends his hand. “You down, bro?”

Slurping down a mouthful of noodles, Jaemin nearly chokes as he listens to his friend, Yeonjun, tell a funny story about his antics on Mario Kart. After a couple of painful coughs, Jaemin pounds on his chest as he coughs out, “Bro, I would’ve saved you from defeat had you hit me up!” He shakes his head in disbelief with a small smile on his face. Yeonjun and Jaemin’s friendship is more like a bromance at this point. The two have many similarities: gamers, university students, and fanboys for idols. Even though they are similar, Jaemin thinks Yeonjun is a bit cooler than him. Not only is Yeonjun older but he’s taller and can actually pull off unusual yet signature blue hair.

Had it not been for Jaemin attending SKKU, he would bug his friend every day. Luckily, they seem to make time together. No matter the place or time, it’s always the same back and forth of them trying to out compliment each other or make the other laugh so hard they choke. “Random question, broski, but did you see the teasers for CONVEX? They look so… cool. Wish I could be like those guys.” Jaemin says tactfully. Talking about their favorite boy bands leads to him walking on eggshells as he doesn’t want his friend to suspect anything, even though he’s sure Yeonjun would be understanding of his situation.

“I did a cover of a song I kept hearing on TikTok but it was… rough.” He scrunches his nose as he points aggressively with his chopsticks at his friend. “You could be an idol, so easily!” While taking in another mouthful of noodles, Jaemin continues his rambling. “You already got the looks and the style. I’m surprised you haven’t been approached by one of those scouts or whatever you call ‘em.” With a snarky look, he reaches across the table to try to pinch at Yeonjun’s cheeks. “Actually, never become an idol! I need you to be a nobody so I’m not alone!”

( … )

he pulls out his phone to take a look at the messages and he snorts as he reads the last one. typical. he puts his phone back in his pocket and as he’s about to get knock on the door three times, per request of the younger, he hears the sound of the door unlocking and immediately puts his hand back down to his side as he watches soobin open the door. and rather than being welcomed warmly like a normal person, he’s greeted with “oppa” and it makes him snort again.

he manages to regain composure quickly, though. he’s dealt with this kid long enough to be able to mirror his actions. poker face on, he replies in a monotonous voice. “i’m sorry, jagi.”he wants to physically cringe from using that word, so he quickly lets out a little laugh from embarrassmentbefore he goes back to actually serious. “things came up, so i’m here to annoy you now.”

soobin’s never been one to ask too many questions. and contrary to popular belief, it isn’t because he thinks it’s a hassle (which it is), but it’s because he knows that at most times, people set boundaries. though when it came to yeonjun, it wasn’t because the older boy had a ‘boundary’ of sorts set up, but it was because soobin knew him, perhaps knew him well enough to not have to pry too much.

“okayyeobo,” he takes a step aside, and opens the door further, allowing yeonjun to take a step inside. at this point, he believes that his place has become a spot for most of his friends to hang out. not that he minds, it’s a lot less travelling for him, even if it meant that he had to stock up on more food. one thing was less troublesome than the other.

“things like your brother?” he asks, he already suspects as such, but he understands if yeonjun would want to avoid the older male. from what he’d heard, he would want yeonjun to avoid him too. “nobody’s home so it’s just the two of us. how romantic,” he takes a seat on the chair and proceeds to eat his chips.

“do you wanna talk about it? or do you want to play video games and curse at the world? i’m fine with either. the most upsetting thing to happen to me today was when a fifteen year old called me a noob on fortnite. fucker,” he snorts, before he takes out another bag of unopened chips and passes it over to his friend. “i’m all ears. mostly. not all, but mostly,” he jokes.

yeonjun‌.

yeonjun was never a greedy person, at least in a serious sense anyway. growing up under a roof with his brother, he never really had the opportunity to be badbecause his parents would always scold him for not even doing anything. if anything, he learned from his brother’s mistakes that gave himpunishments and it was a way to know what was right and what was wrong. it’s why he tries his best to be selfless in all situations no matter what. think about other people’s feelings, yeonjun, he can hear in his head every single day. “you won’t get by life if you’re selfish all the time.”

in his mind, he thinks he’s doing the right thing. what he had was basically a treasureto rock fans and as much as he liked naeol, he knows that there are other people that would’ve probably liked them better than he did. and it’s natural for him to assume that the guy in front of him might’ve been one of those people. maybe he’s wrong and he’s just jumping to his own conclusions. but either way, it was better to be safe than sorry.

he can’t help but smile at the other as he asks him again for confirmation. “no, i don’t mind,” he assures the other. he wasn’t expecting anything more than that. if he knows that he made a guy’s day just by getting a limited edition record, then it’d make him feel goodin the end.

and that’s why it confuses him when the other says that he could keep it because yeonjun wasn’t really expecting that response. it’s not like he didn’t want it because he did. there’s a reason why he picked it up in the first place. but the fact that the other changed his mind and wanted him to keep it? the polite gesture was touching to him.

so touching, in fact, that he feels a little guilty. “are you sure?” he asks again. “i mean- i know it’s like, super rareto get it. so i don’t mind if youtake it. really!” he says with a nervous smile. “i reallydon’t mind if you have it instead.”

it was time to let go.

jaemin knew he couldn’t – shouldn’t – be bothered by these worldly possessions. ( they won’t bring them back, he can hear his aunt telling him )

not that it was because they were ‘ worldly possessions ’ that his aunt was worried about but he can already hear her words in his ear – singing her disappointment. and he wouldn’t blame her for it but jaemin could only contend to one lecture at a time. after all, hadn’t she already given him grief over his wardrobe? if he came home with more things for her to nag about, it was something he’d rather not think about.

“nah, it’s cool.” he says, this time, with definite assurance. it was time. and he knows, the moment he crosses the threshold of his home and his aunt laid eyes on the album, there would be nothing but chaos that ensued.

“i’m sure it’s safer in your hands, anyways.” he laughs, lightly. “my aunt would kill me if i came home with that.” and it was the truth. not that he would get any severe consequences, jaemin would rather save himself both the lecture and time, he shakes his head with affirmative action. he had to do this. if jaemin didn’t do it now, it would continue to haunt him. it was a small step, with multiple meanings but it was one he needed to choose.

he glances one more time at the album cover and taps at the price tag placed decoratively along the plastic. “and for this price, dude, you should get it. doubt you’ll ever get anything as good as this deal.”

it was rough trying to take care of a baby chick all by himself, especially since he was already the least responsible person he knows to begin with. but even still, yeonjun wasn’t willing to give this tiny baby up just yet. so if he couldn’t find help from his family orhis friends, so be it. he’s willing to find assistance somewhere, even if that meant talking to people he barely knew.

fortunately, however, he didknow one person that he could trust. he never liked bothering yiren with his problems, as opposed to their mutual friends. who he was muchmore comfortable going to them with his first world issues. however, seeing as they were busy and how he knew that the girl was always very nice to him, he decides to try his luck.

holding the baby chick in his hands, he meets up with her at her house. “hey! hope i’m not bothering you too much with this,” he says with a little smile. curse him and his city boy brain for getting him into this situation in. the first place. “but i don’t know anyone else who knows a lot about animals more than and i do andwas willing to help me out so… you’re my only hope.” nervous smile before he hears the chick chirp and then it turns genuine.

yiren knows yeonjun more as a friendly acquaintance than a friend, at least that’s what she’s always thought. she’s like that with a lot of people though, everyone knows her and her family for their kindness, and especially yiren’s inability to say no when it came to helping- people or animals.

looking back, it was probably obvious to many that yiren would be the type to go off and singlehandedly try to revive an old farm on her own, filling it with animals before she was really ready. but she was well studied, and made sure to learn as much as she could whenever she could, which led to some sort of impromptu animal expert over the years.

when yeonjun calls on her for help, she invites him over without question, meeting him at her door with the baby chick in his hands. “oh don’t worry about!” she smiles, beckoning him inside. “i don’t mind at all, especially not for such a cute little thing like this one,” she coos, “how did you end up with him?”
