HAPPY BIRTHDAY FORREST GUMP!
One of the greatest movies of all times is celebrating its 20th birthday right about now, so it’s quite amazing that we got to stand on some of the locations used in the movie exactly two decades later.
The first two photos were taken near Monument Valley, Utah on Route 163. There’s even a little sign saying “Forrest Gump ended his crosscountry run at this spot 1980.”

The photos we took in the desert near Monument Valley were one of the hardest ones ever. The reflections on the iPad, the cars driving past fast every now and then, the heat and the sand… ouch. But wow, what a spot to visit. I’ll never forget it. Hope I’ll get to go back some day.

Show:Supernatural (The End, 5x04)
Location:Riverview Hospital, Vancouver, BC, Canada (Google Map)Riverview Hospital is an abandoned mental health facility and a filming location for dozens of TV productions. Since the folks of Supernaturalseem to use it for filming frequently, we got extremely curious and simply had to plan a visit. In the end, we ended up going back three times during our week’s stay in Vancouver.
The whole hospital area is a beautiful, amazing hillside park with old trees, roads and paths, but the run-down hospital buildings with their endless dark, empty windows are something else. More than once we got spooked by a reflection or an old curtain stirring in the wind in a broken window.
We’ll be posting more photos and stories from Riverview soon, but until then, we hope you enjoy these dear shots from one of our favourite Supernatural episodes ever!

Movie:Batman Begins
Location: St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London, UK (website)One of the most beautiful interiors we’ve ever set foot in: the grand staircase of St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Short bits of Batman Begins were filmed here, including Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) carrying Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) to safety and Batman (Christian Bale) doing this mighty jump through a huge cloud of bats.
The same staircase was used in the legendary Spice GirlsvideoWannabe, and other parts of the hotel in films like Harry Potter.

Show: Merlin
Location: Glastonbury Tor (on Google map)We visited The Tor on a winter evening, almost a year after the series finale, The Diamond of the Day part II aired. It doesn’t matter if many modern historians believe the Arthurian legend is just a story - the combination of being a fan of this show and knowing a little about the legend still makes the visit to a place like this utterly impressive.

The Tor seems to have been called Ynys yr Afalon (meaning “The Isle of Avalon”) by the Britons and is believed by some to be the Avalon of Arthurian legend. The Tor has been associated with the name Avalon, and identified with King Arthur, since the alleged discovery of his and Queen Guinevere’s neatly labelled coffins in 1191, recounted by Gerald of Wales.

Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Location: Old Royal Naval College, London, UK (website)From Wikipedia: The Old Royal Naval College (..) has “outstanding universal value” and is reckoned to be the “finest and most dramatically sited architectural and landscape ensemble in the British Isles.”
Once you’re stood in the middle of King William Court, you really can’t help but to agree. Dozens of famous movie scenes were filmed here, i.e. Les MisérablesandSherlock Holmes, but even if you weren’t a film tourist like us, you will enjoy the beautiful Painted Hall and the whole area as a travel destination.
