Emeldir, who wished to fight beside her love,
chose instead to gather the women & children
and lead them from the terror of the battle
on a path through the mountains to safety.
Henceforth, she was called “the Manhearted.”
Adanel the Wise-Woman
Adanel was a wise-woman from the House of Marach. She married Belemir and was the mother of Beren, who was the grandfather of the great Beren Erchamion. The Wise People of Marach were the only men to preserve the tale of their original sin, when, soon after their awakening, some Men chose to worship Melkor instead of Eru. Adanel told this tale to her niece, Andreth of the House of Bëor.
“And when I fall in love, I will build a mountain to touch the sky. Then, my lover and I will have the best of both worlds, reality firmly under our feet, while we have our heads in the clouds with all our illusions still intact. And the purple grass will grow all around, high enough to reach our eyes.”
