Real space mission

European Space Agency launched Solar orbiter in February 2020, starting its primary mission in November 2021, will provide the closest ever images of the Sun, the first ever close-up images of the Sun’s polar regions, and measure the composition of the solar wind and linking it to its area of origin on the Sun’s surface.

Speculative mission

Neptune system space probe “Verrier-Galle”. Roughly based on a “Neptune System Explorer” study from 2011 by JPL and NASA, which would be a Cassini-style spacecraft exploring Neptune and its moons.

I had started working on this back in 2015, then abandoned it for another 2 years, then picked it up again in late 2017, to finally rediscover and finish it this week. Thanks @kowalska_kaska for cool Neptune facts that reminded me about this piece ️

Happy New Year fellow space lovers!

Earth has just completed another revolution around the Sun and New Horizons probe has just made a flyby of Ultima Thule (486958) 2014 MU69,a distant Kuiper Belt Object. While we’re all waiting for close up photos, I’m working on a something special for that occasion. Not sure yet when it’ll be ready, but really wanted to share this little teaser with you, hope you like it!

Real space mission

A long overdue tribute to Cassini spacecraft, that was dropped into Saturn’s atmosphere a month ago, after bringing us breathtaking photos and science for nearly 20 years.

Today, 20 years ago, on 15th October 1997, Cassini spacecraft launched on top of Titan IVB (with Centaur upper stage) rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Space Launch Complex 40

If you want to learn more about the Cassini mission, you can visit the official NASA mission website or read the article on Wikipedia or even get a really great book about the mission (lots of technical information if you are into such things).

Real space mission

Another one in my Martian rovers series. This time it is, now nonoperational, Mars Exploration Rover “Spirit”, which roved Mars for over 5 years until it got stuck in a soft soil.

Spirit, also known as MER-A(Mars Exploration Rover – A) or MER-2, is a robotic rover on Mars, active from 2004 to 2010.[1] It was one of two roversofNASA’s ongoing Mars Exploration RoverMission.

On November 11th, 2019, the NASA Parker Solar Probe (PSP) successfully completed its third rotation around the Sun, in an ongoing effort to collect detailed data about the heliosphere region. The probe is the closest any spacecraft has come to the Sun, which allows the onboard instruments up-close access to its structure and inner workings. PSP is set to make 24 orbits before ending its mission, with eventual iterations moving the probe closer and closer to the Sun. Despite only being two years into its journey, PSP is already providing a great deal of valuable data.

The Rosetta probe has taken the first colour images of the large 67P-Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet with its OSIRIS camera.

The image is slightly blurry is because the comet moved between exposures.

Europa & Io passing over Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, shot from space probe Cassini.

for everyone asking if this is real footage: yeah!

It is an extremely accelerated timelapse made by Kevin Gill, the movement here is more a matter of Cassini whipping past Jupiter at astounding speeds than the motion of the moons, which is why there’s such a large parallax shift, but it’s actual images taken during the Cassini flyby. They did another one of Titan orbiting Saturn, you can see that at the end of this video. [Flickr link]
