“Glad to Have You Back” ✂️

This originally started off as a small, little something I made in anticipation for The Clone Wars’ final season. After it debuted, the effect that the writing, acting, and visuals left had me EAGER to revisit this painting! How incredible of a journey it’s been to see these two persevere since 2008.

Let me know what your personal favorite moment or story arc was from The Clone Wars series!✨

A legendary hero is finally coaxed out of self-imposed retirement and singularly takes on a seemingly-unbeatable force, inspiring hope and ending their legend in the process.

@fireflyfish and I bring you a crack verse of Order 66 where all the Jedi live…

Palps’ nasty goblin self on the com: Commander Bly. Execute Order 66.

Bly: Order 66? Oh, yeah. Ok. I’ll get to it in a little bit.

Palps: What? In a little bit?

Bly: Yeah. *points back to the only ladies’ room on the entire star destroyer* General Secura’s in the bathroom. She always goes before we head down on a mission.

Palps: Well, go in there!

Bly: What? No! You don’t just go into a ladies’ room. I’m not doing that!

Palps: … Then wait for her to come out!

Bly: Gotcha. General Secura, you coming out soon?

Aayla:*standing on top of the toilet, loosening screws to the grate on an air vent* Just a minute…

XD

Somehow I get the feeling that this most excellent AU is full of moments these…

Palps: Commander Monnk, Execute Order 66.

Monnk: Uh… Right now?

Palps: Yes right now!

Monnk: Are you sure? It’s just… The General’s a little indisposed at the moment.

Palps: Then interrupt him!

Monnk: He’s naked ok! I’m not killing a naked man!!!

Palps: Then get him to put on some pants!

Monnk: pfft like that works. General Fisto, could you please put on some pants?

Kit: *surreptitiously swimming closer to a nearby cave system* When I’m good and ready…

Or even consider:

Palps: Commander Cody, Execute Order 66.

Cody: Sorry sir, can’t do that. General Skywalker has dibs.

Palps: What???

Cody: Per their standing agreement General Kenobi’s not allowed to die unless General Skywalker is the one doing the killing. Can’t countermand that unless I get his OK sir.

Palps: *frustrated screaming*

Palps: Commander Ponds, Execute Order 66.

Ponds: General Windu is with General Skywalker at the moment, sir. Guess General Kenobi’s insistence that Skywalker speak to the head of the Order about concerns when Kenobi is mid-mission finally sank in.

Mace: *barges in*

Palps: *shrieking with rage* Kenobi’s not even hereand he’s foiling my plans!

Pfft the idea of the clones just making up excuses to get out of Order 66 is hilarious to me like:

Palps:Commander Wolffe. Execute Order 66.

Wolffe:Hey boys did you hear that? Oh crap I don’t think they heard me there’s been some weird interference over coms lately so let me just open the frequency so everyone can hear. DID YOU ALL HEAR THAT? DID YOU ALL HEAR THE ORDER? CAUSE IT SURE WOULD BE A SHAME IF GENERAL PLO HEARD WE’RE BEING FORCED TO KILL HIM AND GOT AWAY!

Plo Koon, jumping into hyperspace: I love you my sons and I’m coming back for you when you least expect it. You know for safety.

Wolf Pack: Ok love you too dad.

Palps:*confused and enraged screaming*

Palps:Commander Gree, executer Order 66.

Gree, looking at Yoda, who is drawing a finger across his neck slowly: Um, you know what? Do it yourself. *hangs up*

And comparing a tech behemoth like TenCent to the Empire … well, it doesn’t exactly feel wrong, either. (Oh, before you yell at me to say the X-wing is a rebel craft, notice that it’s Darth Vader looking out of the lit office window on the right side.)

so much could have been improved in the sequels if kylo ren hadn’t been force sensitive

no wait think about it. kylo ren not being force sensitive, but so desperate to be so he’s willing to do anything. he feels cheated out of his grand destiny, his powers that his mother and uncle (and cousin?) have. give me the story on the entitlement towards the force. it would have shown that the force is beyond biological, it always has been. it would have given a better reason for kylo ren to “fall to the dark side”, so desperate for a connection to the force that he plays the part of a dark sider, swinging a cracking red lightsaber around with no finesse or training, killing hoping that it will push him further into a dark side of the force he cannot feel. it would have given a reason for him to hate han; that because han isn’t force sensitive, it’s his fault that kylo isn’t either. kylo’s character would have been stronger because his choices would have been his own, instead of whatever whisper dream manipulations they were in canon. his evil has nothing to do with the force, but an entitled man trying to claim a power he believes is his by birthright.

this would have foiled perfectly with finn, too- one is a child born to the most powerful force sensitives in the galaxy who cannot feel the force. and finn is a child who was taken from his family, forced into soldier-hood, who feels such a deep and powerful connection to himself and the force that he breaks free. kylo ren, seething and entitled trying to claim a destiny and power that just aren’t his, and finn, who has suffered at kylo’s actions and still connected to the powerful light inside of him. the “nobody” hero of the sequels who has the power of the force and the legacy-born villain who doesn’t.

Elara pressed her lips to hold her smile; it had been so long since she had traveled on board a freighter or made a trade run… and a familiar, exciting feeling came back to tickle her. Like Litti told her back in the days; once a spacer, always a spacer…”

Jeremy Bulloch is an absolutely, absolutely delightful gentleman. Absolutely. His first involvement

Jeremy Bulloch is an absolutely, absolutely delightful gentleman.

Absolutely.

His first involvement with Doctor Who was in the brilliant William Hartnell story The Space Museum, fighting against the Moroks as the rebel Tor; he also has the distinction - and it is an impressive distinction indeed - of having shot and killed the Sontaran Linx in The Time Warrior, in his role as Hal The Archer.

(And he was Boba Fett, to any Starwarsians out there.)

And, as a gentleman with such an impressive acting CV, we ended up discussing at some length how much it really matters in the creative disciplines that you do it because you have a genuine passion and love for the craft, or it’s not worth putting up with. And you can read about the kinds of things he’s put up with his website, where you can also find his cheeky, charming book.

(My brother, a classicist who lives with his wife and son back in Canada, is a Starwarsian. I’m pretty confident that he’s never been more jealous of my art before.)

And as always, if you’ve been involved in the Doctor Who universe, or know someone who has, do get in contact!
