Y’know, even when I only knew the show by reputation, a lot about Dominique (and DomiJeanne) has always made me think of revolutionary girl utena, but now that I’ve actually started watching it, hooboy
It’s the girl seeking to become a prince while she pines for her own princely love interest, and the girl trapped in a societal role that demands subservience and denies her any agency

Some art redraws I’ve done in the last couple of days. The top is a 12+ year comparison and uses the same mediums - coloured pencil on paper with an inked lineart. Wanted to make the new one a bit more hopeful and make the posing more interesting.
The second one is about 10+ year gap. On the redraw (sketches) I wanted to focus on really pushing the poses, getting the movement, making the character look grounded/weighted in reality and not being afraid to do interesting head tilts or angles (even if it obscures the face.)
Very pleased with both but more importantly I know the kid version of me would Freak Out if they saw it.

As a biologist, that is a fantasticcomparison.
We talk about “fish” (which, cladistically, do not exist, there is no monophyletic group of “fish” that simultaneously includes all organisms we understand to be “fish”-like while also excluding, say, humans) because, despite the utter fiction that is fish, it’s still a useful label when we talk about certain features that “fish” tend to have in common.
we create our own reality thru pretty shit biases.
… we compare our worst of days to others’ highlight reels.
… we jump to the conclusion that everyone knows everything we do plus so much more.
… we down play our pain&hurting because that one person out in the world must be worse off.
… we assume everyone is happier, prettier, smarter, more successful than us because that’s logical, right?
the way we see the world is distorted. we only let ourselves see the good bits&pieces of people’s lives, &we reject all the rest, all the negative. we then take those pieces, pile them all together &create one perfect human. &lastly we then force ourselves into comparison with these imaginary perfect creatures.
//example//. I could see a girl walking down the street. She’s fit. so naturally, I zoom in on her body. it is the most perfect body. she is the most perfect girl. & has the most perfect life. //I’m spiraling//. I must be like her. &because I am not her, well I suck.
but wait a second diva, zoom out. her body is only one thing going on in her life. &she also is only one girl on this street. you see how quickly I jumped to very dark, very scary conclusions about myself all because one person had one good thing going for them. //how shit is that//? buuuuut we all do it, like all the time.
we create our own reality. &we’ve got to start creating one we deserve, a pretty damn good one.
No gym for me today; went to my friend’s wedding shower!
What kickstarted my weight loss/fitness journey a few years back was a really terrible candid photo that I saw of myself. I was so shocked at how I looked to other people and it seriously upset me for weeks until I decided to do something about it. We were all gathering today for a group photo and someone snapped this picture and it truly made me realize how far I have come and how happy I am with my body and myself in general. It has been such a long road to get here but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
A little blonder and a few more tattoos, but I can’t even recognize the girl on the left.
It’s been six years since we met and many things have changed, except how I see her! ❤
