‘Start-Up’ was my first Korean drama that motivates, gives a deep impression, and has the best storyline ever

Surely will watch if they remake it into a Japanese drama

I present a dream cast of the Japanese version:

Suzu Hirose as Seo Dal-Mi

Yui Aragaki as Won In-Jae

Mackenyu Arata as Nam Do-San

Tomohisa Yamashita as Han Ji-Pyeong

SeoYe Ji and Kim Seon Ho really won 2020

As start up has ended, I wanted to say a few things about people who has been brushing off the character NDS from the drama itself just because they’re annoyed. Let’s be honest, it’s insanely annoying too for many people to do this.

Firstly whether I’m team NDS or HJP, it doesn’t matter. I root for both and I’m not (anymore) looking for love stories in dramas. I expect less love stories and more towards the story line instead of the love stories implied here. So whoever DALMI ends up with, I don’t really care. But what people are brushing off about him is his feelings, his expressions and his struggles. I’m not saying all of you brush off his feelings but there are of people who did. I don’t especially understand those people who said they don’t get why NDS acts like that and bluntly say “I skipped his scenes” most of the times.

Many people are being relatable towards HJP, and agrees towards the way he is acting to others but many was actually annoyed on how NDS and it’s very very disturbing me as someone who relates to NDS at some point. Many of them would say “I don’t understand why is he like this.” then watch and learn and perhaps read some explanation instead of hating him (and some of them are being childishly toxic, throwing hates to the actor himself.) I hope this stops and let people take the time to notice there are a lot of people around you who actually stands in NDS position, and actually understand (not sympathize, just understand) that it is hard to stand in such position most of the time, and have those kind of feelings wrapping your whole being. I won’t explain the whole NDS per-episode and per-scenes, but look it up. Please stop hating the character (and especially those who hates and dislikes the actor himself) it’s sickening to the fact that NJH didn’t search his name anymore in the internet and he probably notice the slanders that’s thrown to him. But at least he did a great job on playing his role too.

As the drama ends, I love how the ending goes. Every character development is seen, happy (with or without a significant other in your life) just genuinely happy in peaceful life rather than holding grudges towards one another and be mature about it as they grew throughout the year. Congrats to START UP team and staff and all the actors / actresses involved. . Also good job for the war of the year between HJP and NDS. I love you both doe.

unpopular opinions abt start up since its the finale

  • the plot is a mess. it’s not even that good. the love traingle and leads just hyped it up
  • even with the terrible storyline, Do San is not your ordinary male lead. He’s flawed. He makes the worst choices, has done wrong things, cries a lot, is trying to find himself, and is portrayed a lot more vulnerable than his female lead. He’s one of the most realistic portrayal of an actual young adult.
  • With the love triangle going on, a lot of people don’t sympathize and understand Dosan’s vulnerability and even mental crisis. in fact, i’ve seend hundreds of posts hating on him, and invalidating his vulnerability and mental crisis to defend their prefered ships. the fact that so much people do that goes to show how much mental health is still a taboo in my country. (or maybe in Asian culture altogether.)
  • dalmi’s character eventually turned shallow. considering that she’s the main main lead, I expected so much more character development but she’s literally been the same the entire time.
  • there’s so many unnecessary sideplots. The brother’s suicide for one, the letters which everyone thought was going to be a big deal throughout the story but now that it’s ending and it’s clear that dalmi likes dosan for who he is, the whole hype with the letters seemed pointless. that being said the love triangle was also pointless.
  • Ji Pyeong deserves better. not dalmi, or a good ending, a better writing in general. He shouldn’t have been involved in a love triangle, or shouldn’t have made him fall in love with dalmi when all that would just lead to dalmi choosing dosan for who he truly is. ji pyeong’s story could’ve focused so much more on his relationship with dalmi’s grandma and him finding peace with what he went through growing up or maybe even a good relationship with samsan tech (which we all expected in the beginning of the drama.) he deserved a better relationship with them rather than just being a critic all throughout.
  • In Jae shouldn’t have existed if they were going to do her dirty so bad
  • both jipyeong and dalmi also deserved a character arc like dosan did.

i might add some more later after the finale but yeah those r my thoughts. feel free to have a (proper!) debate and conversation with me lol
