Stephen Sondheim
In tribute to the actual G.O.A.T. I’ve made likenesses of several of his characters. Now it’s the legend himself. I have versions holding songbooks for “Into the Woods” and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” Available now at my Etsy shop!
Rest in peace, Mr. Sondheim. You gave the world more than you can ever imagine. What a blessing to love musical theater and have shared this Earth with Stephen Sondheim.
Tony, Maria, and Anita, West Side Story, 1961 and 2021 Film Adaptations
West Side Story was kind of my first real musical theater obsession. It also opened up Shakespeare to me for the first time! Both are loves that have never left my nerdy little heart.
I made Tony and Maria from both movies as well as Ariana DeBose as Anita in Spielberg’s film. If I can find pieces I like, I would love to make Rita Moreno as Anita (and maybe Valentina!). But for now, you can purchase the sets of Tony and Maria or Ariana!Anita HERE at my Etsy.
Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett
Attend the tale… Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett return to my Etsy. Two sets available at my Etsy now!
Maria and Tony from the 2021 film version of West Side Story are available again! Two sets are up in my Etsy now.

A beautiful tribute for Stephen Sondheim this Sunday morning. I love how the Broadway community came together for this.
May your memory be a blessing.

some of my favorite sondheim lyrics
may his memory be a blessing
- sometimes people leave you, halfway through the woods. others may deceive you, you decide what’s good. you decide alone. but no one is alone.
- now you’re on your own. only me beside you, still, you’re not alone.
- it could have kept on growing instead of just kept on, we had a good thing going, going, gone.
- long ago all we had was that funny feeling, saying someday we’d send ‘em reeling- now it looks like we can. someday just began.
- studying a face, stepping back to look at a face, leaves a little space in the way like a window. but to see, it’s the only way to see.
- i chose and my world was shaken, so what? the choice may have been mistaken, the choosing was not.
- stop worrying if your vision is new, let others make that decision, they usually do
- good things get better, bad things get worse. wait- i think i meant that in reverse.
- deep talks, long walks, telephone calls. thoughts shared, souls bared, private names, all those photos up on the walls 'with love’.
- make me confused! mock me with praise! let me be used! vary my days. for alone is alone, not alive.
- somebody crowd me with love, somebody force me to care. somebody let me come through, i’ll always be there, as frightened as you, to help us survive, being alive.
- you’re sorry-grateful, regretful-happy.
- marry me a little, love me just enough. cry but not too often, play but not too rough.
- are we a pair? me here at last on the ground, you in mid air.

musical theatre quotes i gave my soul to pt.1
- “good things get better, bad get worse. wait- i think i meant that in reverse.”
- “deep talks, long walks, telephone calls. thoughts shared, souls bared, private names, all those photos up on the walls ‘with love’. ”
- “what’s the good in being good if everyone is blind, and you’re always left behind?”
- “anywhere you go let me go too. love me, that’s all i ask of you.”
- “faces! drink it in, drink it up till you’ve drowned in the light, in the sound. but who can name the face?”
- “i chose, and my world was shaken, so what? the choice may have been mistaken; the choosing was not. you have to move on.”
- “the tune seems sad, but are the words sad? what’s he saying? is he praying? and why does it get to me?”
- “and i don’t know what i feel and i don’t know what i know. all i know is i feel something different.”
- “i’ve been a lot of places, yes i’ve travelled near and far… but now i know that home is where you are.”
- “in the depths of her interior were fears she was inferior, or something even eerier. But no one dared to query her superior exterior.”
- “i can’t promise you fair sky above. can’t promise you kind road below. but i’ll walk beside you, love, any way the wind blows.”
- “to know how it ends and still begin to sing it again, as if it might turn out this time. i learned that from a friend of mine. ”
- “he told me how he loved me, how he needed and or valued me.”
- “why don’t we tell him that we don’t have the answers? and that life can be grim, life’s not all about him. and things rarely go according to plan. tell him things happen for no damned good reason, and his lack of control kills what’s best in your soul.”

I’m beginning to think musical relationships like Tony and Maria from West Side Story and Laurey and Curly from Oklahoma! Might actually be why I have ridiculously high standards.

once again losing my mind over company
can’t wait for ben platt and beanie feldstein to win oscars for this in 20 years
I haven’t written much Glee fic lately, but some time ago I wrote a series in which Blaine and Kurt reunite during a production of Into the Woods. Sondheim’s lyrics and music were in my head for months as I wrote those stories, and it seemed that those characters were the perfect way to help me process Sondheim’s death, and honor him in my own way. You can read the first two parts of this story here: The Journeying (24k), and here: Ever After (51k). May his memory be a blessing.
Dim The Lights, A03, 2300 words
Blaine sees the notification pop up on his phone, and his heart sinks.
“Blaine? What’s wrong?” Kurt pokes him with his toe from his spot at the other end of their couch. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Sondheim died,” Blaine says. “I can’t believe it.”
“What?” Kurt crawls across the couch and lands next to him, warmth pressing against his side as he grabs for Blaine’s phone. “Let me see. How?”
“It doesn’t say. He had Thanksgiving dinner with friends yesterday.”
“How old was he?”
“Ninety-one. I guess…” Everyone dies at some point. Ninety-one is pretty old.
Blaine looks at Kurt, who looks as shocked as he feels, and then they are wrapped around each other, holding on tight.
“Why does it hurt so much?” Blaine asks, as Kurt rubs soothing circles on his back. “It’s not like we knew him.”
“But we did. He gave us so much. His music… it taught us things. Helped us.”

Today in TeaandSpite spends half a show thinking about how to make it more queer, I submit to you that the role of Anthony in Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street could absolutely be played by a woman, and his character actually works better as a disaster lesbian. No, this isn’t just me looking for a part in my range. What did you have against altos, Stephen Sondheim?
Just- oh look, pretty girl who smiled at me? And her dad is a creep that keeps her locked up? And he wants to WHAT? Say no more, babe, I’m bringing the U-Haul around.
Also, it adds an extra layer of meaning to the lyric Oh look at you looking / so sad so queer and I am but a simple soul who likes wordplay.
The broadway squad I never knew I needed.
