Been playing lots of Struggling
I love this game (even though I wanna pull my hair out half the time I play lmao)
Troy (Achilles and Hector) are best monsters
Oh and Agamemnus is fantastic too
So I’m mostly taking a social media hiatus today, but I just wanted to say something to the writers and other artists on here, especially those who are struggling to create right now.
Whatever you’re feeling right now, it’s okay.
It’s okay to need a break from the news, the world, social media, and even your art.
It’s okay if you’re not creating as much as you usually do, or if you’re not creating as well as you usually do.
It’s okay to take care of yourself, even if – especially if – that means taking a break from something you usually love.
A lot of people are encouraging us all to keep making art because the world needs art right now, and they’re right, but that doesn’t mean the weight of the world rests solely on your shoulders. If you step back and take a break, others will continue creating, and that’s okay. When you’re ready to create again, others will be taking a break, and that’s okay too.
It’s like the choir metaphor people have used to describe resisting without getting outrage fatigue: an individual singer can only sustain a single note for so long without needing to breathe, but an entire chorus can sustain it by allowing the group to carry on while individual members pause for a breath.
We’re all a part of this choir, and if you need to stop singing for a moment, the rest of us will carry it while you catch your breath, just like you’ll carry it when someone else needs to catch theirs.
It’s also okay if you don’t want to share your pain with the world or put your pain into your art. The world needs art because everything hurts right now, but artists are hurting too, and we’re allowed to hurt without putting it on paper.
It’s okay if you need to make different art right now than you usually do. If you want to make light, fluffy, silly art, then go forth and do so. If you want the catharsis of something dark and twisted, do it. If continuing on the familiar path of what you usually create keeps you going, carry on.
This all goes for professionals, too. Yes, we need to make art in order to pay our bills, but you’re better off taking a day or two for self-care than grinding yourself to dust and needing even more time to recover. Balance professional with personal. It’s okay if that means changing the way you do things.
Whatever you’re doing…
Whatever you’re not doing…
Whatever you’re feeling…
Whatever you need…
Whatever will get you through this…
It’s okay.
Bedtime.
Keep working it, doll.
That’s it, struggle for me, doll.
