#stubborn whumpee

Imagine a sick character curling up against another, completely denying that they’re sick at all and insisting they’re “just cold/tired” but the caretaker knowsthey never show affection like that unless they feel awful so they’re just like “uh huh. sure. keep telling yourself that.”

i-write-whump:

Whump dialogue prompts:

“Nobody is going to be mad at you if you take a break, you know. I know you want to get all your work done, but you’re at the point where it’ll be faster if you just take the time to sleep, then work more after you wake up.”

“You look like you just walked off the set of a horror movie, what happened?”

“Either you can cooperate or I can call someone for backup, but one way or another, you are going to get actual medical treatment, even if I have to drag you there myself.”

“You still feel a little warm, ________. Just take it easy for another day, please? For my peace of mind, if nothing else.”

“When was the last time you stopped to take care of yourself? You look horrible!”

“Alright, enough is enough. Let me help, it’s obvious you can’t walk that far on your own.”

When the whumpee is the team leader and they try to seem tough in front of their teammates, but when their teammates rescue them from the whumper, they can’t hide that they’re in bad shape. Their teammates checking them over quickly, and the whumpee trying to claim that they can walk, but their teammates all ignoring them, and the strongest one picking them up carefully. The whumpee trying to hide that even being carried hurts, but not being able to stop themself from making pained noises whenever they get slightly jostled. Their teammate apologizing, and trying to be as gentle as possible, and the whumpee hiding their face in their teammate’s shirt as they start to cry, the combination of the pain and the relief of being rescued just too much.

When the whumpee starts getting hypothermic on a mission in a cold, snowy area, but they try to push through it without telling their teammates, because they haven’t been on the team very long and they don’t want to be an inconvenience. One of their teammates noticing just how much the whumpee is shivering, and telling the team leader that the whumpee needs shelter and warmth. The team leader deciding it’s time to find shelter for the night, and as soon as they’ve found shelter, going over to the whumpee and asking if they’re ok. The whumpee trying to deny that anything’s wrong, but being so cold and out of it that their leader simply ignores them and leads them to sit down. The rest of the team helping the leader get the whumpee situated in the leader’s arms, and then wrapping the two in a blanket. The whumpee leaning into the team leader’s touch almost involuntarily, too cold to stop themself, and the leader gently scolding them about hiding how cold they were as they hold them close, trying to share as much warmth as possible.

When the whumpee wants to resume working, but the caretaker won’t let them until they recover more. The whumpee asking the caretaker to let them rest somewhere other than their bed, and as soon as the caretaker leaves them there for a few minutes, the whumpee getting up and trying to do some things they’d brought home with them from work. The caretaker catching them almost immediately, and forcing the whumpee to go back to bed, then asking why they were so determined to start working again. The whumpee admitting that they’re bored and restless, and the caretaker trying to find them other things they can do without exerting themself, so they won’t be so bored while they recover.

emphasis-on-the-comfort:

A trope I love: when a caretaker notices that their friend is feeling unwell/sick to their stomach at an important event/obligation, but knows that their friend is stubborn and won’t leave to get the rest they need, so the caretaker pretends to not feel well knowing that the true sickee will only leave if it’s to take care of someone else. ❤️
