The villain dodged and threw a punch of their own. “Oh, no, I understand.” They tried to kick out the hero’s legs, but the hero jumped away. “I’m so honoured that you felt safe enough to come out to me, and that you had the patience to explain what those terms meant.” They launched at the hero. “I’m sorry if that was frustrating for you.”
The hero blocked the villain’s fist and raised their knee in a kick. “Then why won’t you leave me alone?”
“Well” – punch – “I was doing some reading on the subject,” – kick – “and I came across the phrase ‘queerplatonic relationship.’” – punch – “I just wanted to check that such a dynamic also disinterests you, before I gave up entirely.”
The hero stopped, because, one – the villain had done researchon this? And two – yes, the hero didwant a QPR. Quite desperately, in fact. But it was so hard to find people who had even heard of the term, let alone were interested in that kind of relationship.
“Do you mean it?” they asked, feeling breathless.
The villain took advantage of the hero’s stillness, and hit them right in the face.
“For you, dear? Of course.”

A/N – This feels like as good a time as any to mention that I’m aroace. (Btw, would you say that aroace is one word or two? I struggled to decide.) It’s rare to see a-spec representation, so I thought I’d write my own. Honestly there’s such an unnecessary stigma with tracing, regardless of the context. I used to trace all the time to better understand anatomy, and I still do!

3. The fact that the story structure would work better as 6 episode miniseries than a movie.

Disclaimer, I’m not a film student. Most of what I’m saying I’m pulling from my ass. But it makes sense to me and if any actual film student would like to help me out here, I’d appreciate.
Respectfully, I think you’re wrong. You have a point in that a longer, more segmented format (such as a miniseries) would have been able to carve out the details of each relationship in a more nuanced and detailed fashion, but that’s one of the last things I think this production needs, and I will tell you why:
Inaccessibility. The Indian audience is greatly lacking media representation when it comes to queer people and queer relationships. The film industry here is extremely well supported in terms of infrastructure (theatres of varied capacity, affordability) and culture (people of all ages and generations are used to watching movies). And as much as streaming mini series are growing in popularity, this is mostly among young adult, educated, middle class individuals who already have increased access to information regarding LGBTQ issues. Thus, the film format is indefinitely more meaningful for them to send out their message
Saturation. I don’t mean to say that there’s ‘too much’ representation of a certain kind, but definitely the message of 'uhhh gay people exist too’ just. falls short. Any representation we’ve gotten so far has consisted of that same identical message and badhaai do is trying to say so much more than that. It’s not about gay people existing, and having relationships just as meaningful as straight ones. It’s about being just as flawed as straight ones. Just as messed up and consuming and terrifying and beautiful as straight ones. I don’t think that can happen if all of their issues (relationships or personalities) get resolved. I prefer the imperfections, somehow
People>their relationships. I think my favourite thing about this movie, starting from the very trailer, was the idea that the main focus of the movie was this platonic relationship between the main leads. And when i actually got to watching the movie and found out that Shardul and Sumi were less-than-friends I was ESTATIC. To have a story about being gay that’s not hyper-focused on the gay relationships themselves, but how that identity affects other aspects of life which are equally present. It forces us to attribute Shardul and Sumi’s struggles and character development to only themselves, and not as results of them finding fulfilling partners and societal acceptance. It forces us to view their homosexuality as something larger than the literal experience of romance and sex and marriage and parenthood, but simultaneously as nothing more than a singular, finite aspect of their multi-faceted identities. Intersectionality at its finest and it is enabled by not focusing on the relationships very much at all.
If there was one thing Remus could list that he liked about Remy it’d probably be how fun they were. Or… maybe the way they snorted when he told a joke? No it’d definitely be… fucking everything.
