KoA ch.90

And when they were alone on the silent battlefield, Manon’s great-grandmother put a hand on her shoulder and said quietly, her voice somehow distant, “Be the bridge, be the light. When iron melts, when flowers spring from fields of blood—let the land be witness, and return home.”

Manon didn’t hear the words. Didn’t notice when even Glennis returned to the city looming at her back.

For hours, Manon knelt on the battlefield, Abraxos at her side. As if she might stay with them, her Thirteen, for a little while longer.

And far away, across the snow-covered mountains, on a barren plain before the ruins of a once-great city, a flower began to bloom.

@alwayssara thank you for bringing this passage to my attention, and I’m sorry for saving this as a draft, then burying it under about ten others for a month.

“Be the bridge”

  • Feyre and Rhys’ bond bridge of adamant.
  • The only bridge of connection, that knife - Elriel and Truth-Teller.

“Be the light”

  • Could the Archeron sisters be Starborn fae, and each represent a different form of light (hereandhere)?
  • Other characters probably descend from the Starborn fae, too, such as Helion and Rhys.

“When iron melts”

  • “If Elain was a blooming flower in this army camp, then Nesta … she was a freshly forged sword, waiting to draw blood.” - ACOWAR, chapter 51
  • Nesta forged and Made her own weapons trove, and became a Valkyrie/warrior, in ACOSF.

“When flowers spring from fields of mud”

  • Elain possibly has some sort of life/rebirth or plant-based powers.
  • “Elain was just blinking, wide-eyed, at the camp. The army. Devlon let out a grunt at the sight of her. But Elain wrapped her own blue cloak around herself, averting her eyes from all of those towering, muscled warriors, the army camp bustling toward the horizon … She was a rose bloom in a mud field. Filled with galloping horses.” - ACOWAR, chapter 51

“Let the land be witness”

  • Elain’s doe eyes peered across the world to See the Suriel, but how? Through the murky, shadow realm, or can she also use the land?
  • “This time, you sent the trembling fawn to find me. I did not expect to see those doe-eyes peering at me from across the world.” - ACOWAR, chapter 58
  • The Prison mountain has eyes and ears, but to whom does it report?

“And return home”

  • “When knife and sword are reunited, so shall our people be.” - HOSAB, chapter 23
  • The Dusk Court and the Starborn / Avallen fae.

“And far away, across the snow-covered mountains,on a barren plain before the ruins of a once-great city, a flower began to bloom”

  • Obviously this sentence is referring to the Western Wastes, but could it also be indirectly referring to the Mother’s (Urd’s?) strength returning across all of the worlds, providing much needed balance between forces?
  • The Prison island, Ramiel and the mountain in the Middle are barren, each with tunnels hewn into their depths. Were these ancient cities?

There’s almost certainly more going on, but I can’t think of it off the top of my head, and this post has been languishing in drafts for too long now. I don’t know, it’s probably not a coincidence that so many similar themes are being repeated throughout ACOTAR, CC and TOG, especially after HOSAB confirmed that the extent of the crossover would be significant.

I’m going to tag @wingedblooms in this post, too, because I know she’ll have thoughts to contribute.

legionsofthehungry:

I’d previously responded to someone’s post with the following quote, but I wanted to highlight it in my own post. After Feyre learns Nuala and Cerridwen track Amren for Azriel—despite Rhys having told the twins not to do so—Amren says the following (emphasis mine):

‘The Court of Dreams is founded on three things: to defend, to honor, and to cherish. Were you [Feyre] expecting brute strength and obedience? Many of Rhysand’s top officials have little to no power. He values loyalty, cunning, compassion. And Azriel, despite his disobedience, is acting to defend his court, his people. So no, Rhysand does not punish that. There are rules, but they are flexible.

(Source: ACOMAF, chapter 28)

I love this passage for the reason you suggested, but I also think it shows how eachof the Archeron sisters fit into the Court of Dreams.

  • Feyredefended the Rainbow from Hybern’s invasion, and is extremely loyal to her friends, family and court.
  • Nesta could be considered as having brought honour to the Valkyries by surviving the Blood Rite/defeating Briallyn, and is studying military strategy with Cassian, ie. honing her cunning mind. Not to mention how she dealt with Tamlin and Eris.
  • Elain valued her time in their cottage growing up, no matter how impoverished they were, because she cherished her family; she has also shown great compassionthroughout the series, ie. when she went redirected Cassian’s ire at Nesta towards herself in ACOMAF, when she thought of the humans in their old region during the war, and when she helped Feyre come to terms with gift giving and winter solstice.

I do think each sister embodies all of those traits to varying extents, but it’s possibly significant that they were listed in that particular order, which appears to match the predicted order of their books, so could be more evidence to suggest that Elain does, in fact, have a home in the Night Court.

“… As I was.”

A parallel between Vassa and Miryam - is Vassa already immortal?

Please don’t share or screenshot this post without credit.

I know I’m not the only one who has wondered if the following passage suggests that Vassa is already Made, or immortal, in some way.

But Elain shook me off, heading back to the stairs. She said as she climbed the first steps, “I can hear her—crying.” I gripped the bottom post of the banister. “Who?” “Everyone thinks she’s dead.” Elain kept walking. “But she’s not. Only—different. Changed. As I was.” “Who,” I pushed. - ACOWAR, chapter 27

Coincidentally or not, it happens to parallel Feyre’s thoughts about Miryam pretty well.

“Miryam died—a spear through her chest during that last battle at the sea,” Rhys explained. “She bled out while she was carried to safety. But Drakon knew of a sacred, hidden island where an object of great and terrible power had been concealed. An object made by the Cauldron itself, legend claimed. He brought her there, to Cretea—used the item to resurrect her, make her immortal. As you were Made, Feyre.” Amren had said it—months ago. That Miryam had been Made as I was.-ACOWAR, chapter 16

Does this mean that Miryam was Made similarly to Feyre, and Vassa like Elain and Nesta? Given Miryam was Made 500 years ago by “an object of great and terrible power,” and Feyre was Made by each High Lord donating a kernel of their magic, not to mention Elain and Nesta were Made by a newly reassembled Cauldron, which was unlikely to be used for Vassa (though not impossible, of course), I’m not sure what to make of this parallel, and if it’s meant to be taken so literally.

Could it just be that they are all Made, and so have immortal lifespans, whether their bodies are Fae or human? Or possibly have something to do with their powers? Could Vassa and Miryam be related to the Archeron sisters? Many of us have wondered about Vassa, but Miryam? It’s a stretch, but she’s half human, so who knows? Anything is possible.

evermore-books:

The Archeron sisters are the perfect example of how everyone deals with trauma and depression differently.

Nesta shows us that we can get ugly and nasty when dealing with trauma and depression when we don’t actually mean it but we can’t help it. It’s a trauma response to assert dominance. And through asserting dominance, we protect ourselves even though it may be wrong sometimes. We hope that in asserting dominance and being nasty, it will intimidate others into thinking twice before violating us!!! We see through Nesta’s actions how it’s a direct result of trauma.

With Elain we see how people can become withdrawn, disassociated and avoidant when dealing with trauma and depression. We tend to turn to the things that once gave us joy in the hopes that it will heal us, like Elain does with gardening. We also avoid confrontation as much as possible because we’re tired and withdrawn from reality. We avoid the harshness of reality as much as we can because if we don’t, we’re constantly reminded of how horrible this world is and what was done to us. We also tend to lean on the people that bring us most comfort and security in our lives so we don’t have to worry about being a target anymore.

With Feyre we see how people can completely give up and not care about our lives or what happens to it anymore. We don’t care how much weight we lost/gained. We don’t care whether we’ve eaten or not and we don’t care if someone completely dictates our lives and future because we’re so numb and withdrawn that we just don’t gaf anymore. We are willing to let others live our lives for us and don’t care whether we live or die until someone tells us that it’s not right. And even then it takes months for us to start caring again. Even then it takes months to stop feeling numb and wanting to live again.

So that’s why I’m 100% pro Archeron’s and the rest of you guys can eat rocks for all I care

“ , ’ . , . , .” ~

One of my favorites elements of ACOTAR is a The Archeron sisters and their relationship. This series started as Feyre’s story but now has evolved and it’s about family, it’s the story of three sisters and how they navigate this strange new world. Discovering each sisters journey has been incredible to reed and I cannot wait to see what is in store for Elain.

The sisters have gone through so many hardships together and it has been beautiful to see how they are mending their relationship. This scene that takes place at the end of ACOSF, is on of my favorites, as it shows how their bond seems to be mending and getting stronger. A bit of hope and a hint of what’s to come.

I wanted to gift the fandom something to celebrate one year since ACOSF came out and HOSAB release, what better way to do it than with our favorite sisters. There’s simply not enough art of them together.

@jessamyart is once again the incredible artist that created this stunning scene and my partner in crime. I love working with Jess, she always manages to read my mind and create exactly what I envision. So thank you Jess, I will always treasure you for helping me bring this to life. It’s always a pleasure, and I cannot wait to work with you again!

Thank you to @offtorivendell@silverlinedeyesand@wingedblooms for helping me with this! I couldn’t have done it with out you

My fav badass scenes for each Archeron sister:

Feyre: falling through the sky, flaming grasp holding the attor as she struck him over and over for Rhys, Clare, and herself

Elain: coming out of the shadows and snarling in the kings ear as she plunged Truthteller through his neck

Nesta: rising from the bog, donned with the golden mask, and clenching the kelpie’s head
