Theory: The Anglerfish works by distortion rules. Clearly, Georgie was a victim of the Anglerfish in college and the one we know is all a big facade.

SPOILERS FOR THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES SEASON3!!
I love one real-estate-agent-turned-elrditch horror Helen Richardson.
‘come on, let’s go home.’
what if we hugged in the Lonely to keep ourselves from fading out of existence

“He’s…all eyes.”
I’ve been thinking about the Stranger, so this post contains Magnus Archives Spoilers.
I think part of the essence of the fear it embodies is… the idea that your life can be taken by someone else and then worn, that someone else could be you. That what you are could be separated from your own existence and then worn like a mask.
Many parts of the Stranger we’ve seen are predatory. They steal things using deception, trickery and ambush.
The Anglerfish takes people entirely; what remains afterward? It either takes their names and faces and gives them to something else, or robs people of what they are so much that those names and faces don’t belong to them anymore really.
Many agents and aspects of the stranger engage in literal face stealing- Nikola and her host of mannequin and doll people like Sarah Baldwin.
Breekon and Hope are less direct, but they also have themes of theft and depriving people of things, but their fear is the more abstract dread of the unknown destination. They still, however, take people’s lives and belongs quite readily, like the man they took their current delivery business from.
And, of course, Not-Them is all about completed devouring someone’s life and identity; using it for just a while to cause fear and dread.
The episode on zombies, which I initially took to be about the Lonely, I feel on reflection is part of the stranger- the uncanniness of the people, the creeping dread, the underlying fear of having what makes you youstolen.
This isn’t the entirety of the Stranger, of course, there’s the fear of… ambiguity? The inability to know? The uncanniness of something nearly, but not quite, right?
But I feel like this is an important theme.
the magnus archives sure were a podcast, huh?
[ID: the image is a digital illustration of Jon and Martin from The Magnus Archives kissing as the panopticon burns. Jon has medium dark skin, long greying hair, various scars, and a short beard, and his hands are covered in blood. he is wearing an overlarge green button up, light green shirt, rectangular glasses, and dark pants. his eyes are closed gently and he is crying. one hand is gently on Martin’s cheek, and the other in a fist on his shoulder, arm around the back of his neck. Martin has light brown skin, curly silver hair, large round glasses, and stubble. he is wearing a cream sweater a jacket tied around his waist, and dark pants. his eyes are closed, he is crying, and he looks mournful. one hand is supporting his lower back, and the other is holding a knife in his chest. they are surrounded by stylized smoke and an orange flame-like glow. above them is a glowing shut eye. the image looks glitched/corrupted. end id]
