thinking about how jurgen leitner went to all the trouble of adding his nameplate to the books, he literally could have added an actual warning to all of them. just a little ‘this book will make you burst into flames’ or w/e. instead, everyone had to re- figure out what each book does from trial and error because this dumb motherfucker apparently thought that he personally would be able to talk to anyone who got too close to one i fucking guess.
So I’ve talked before about how Jurgen was hunt aligned, and that his pursuit of the books wasn’t out of an Eye related need to know, but out of a personal drive to carve his name onto history (just as he did with the books).
Leitner didn’t care how the books worked or how they could be used, he just needed to know enough about them to contain them, ala Daisy asking Jon about Mike Crewe so she knew to bury him, rather than burn him. He had reading assistants bare the brunt of the books so he didn’t have to deal with any of the messy details themselves, for him, getting them shelved and stamped with the bookplate was enough.
He really did think he was going to keep all those books locked up personally, much in the same way as the mad explorers of the everchase all thought they would reach their goal. So yes, a dumb motherfucker indeed.
You just know that had Jurgen Leitner been tech savvy he definitely would have tracked down the Sergey Ushanka bot to rename it ‘Ushankas_Despair_From_The_Library_of_Jurgen_Leitner.exe’

okay, so I’m absolutely head over heals obsessed w Gerry Keay rn like this man is all I can think abt, so I made him n his mum in the sims 4 and was just thinking like “god I wish there was a mod which I could use to play the authentic Gerry experience” so I came up with one. Idk how to program though so I’ll just share it here.
Leitners
Okay so first thing it’d implement would be Leitners, either which you might accidentally end up with if you buy a bunch of normal books, or if you say, ran into an avatar on the street you could talk to them and they might have one and give it to you (expand on idea of avatars later), or you could summon or somehow find Jurgen Leitner himself and get one from him (expand on that later). You’d know it was a Leitner because the description would start with “From the Library of Jurgen Leitner”, some of the Leitners would be parodies of the ones from cannon, others would be like, evil versions of the books already in the sims 4. Sometimes when you went to buy a book you’d end up with the evil Leitner version instead.
The Leitners would have a negative effect on your sims when in their inventory or the household inventory, these would be amplified when they read them. What they’d do exactly would be different depending on what entity it alined with, for example a slaughter aligned could make your sim constantly very Angry, or a Lonely one would make them very sad, or a Vast or Spiral would make them very Dazed, or Corruption uncomfortable etc. Maybe one could make your sim more prone to accidentally starting fires, or have it make their social need decay faster, maybe there could be extra bits you’d only download if you had a certain pack, like certain Leitners making you sick if you had get to work, or Leitners that could turn you into a vampire or a mermaid or an Alien. Maybe one which would make pets more likely to chase you around. The possibilities are endless.
All that sounds really annoying though, right? None of it is stuff you’d actively want to happen to your sims, seems really inconvenient, how do you get rid of Leitners? Well,
Pinhole Books, Mary, Gerry, and the “Book Burner” skill
If a Leitner is really causing you that much trouble, you could make a trip to Pinhole books in Windenburg, which would function as a just a normal Book shop, BUT would be run by the Ghost of Mary Keay, with her son hanging around as well. You can either talk to Mary or Gerry first. If you talk to Mary with a Leitner in your inventory there’ll be an interaction along with the different kind of greetings which would be “ask about Leitner”, and a pop up will show up with her asking to buy it off you. If you say no you’ll get a negative relationship with her but a positive relationship with Gerry when you talk to him, if you say yes then you’ll get a positive relationship with her but start off with a negative relationship with Gerry when you talk to him.
If you talk to Gerry first, well there’s a few interactions there, you can start with the “ask about Leitner” and a pop up will show up, same as before, but this time it’ll be “Hey, quick give that to me before mum comes back, I’ll get rid of it for you” with the same thing before, if you say sure good with Gerry bad with Mary, if no, neutral with both, and a notification from Gerry “suit yourself”. From there you can talk to Gerry normally but there’ll be a section which would be named “Leitners”, under which you can ask him about the entities, Leitners, Leitner himself, the Magnus institute, and maybe some other stuff. If you have a low or negative relationship with him he’ll give you creepy cryptic non-answers, if you have a high positive relationship with him, he’ll answer you honestly and you’ll get the “Book Burner” skill. You can also ask Gerry to let you burn it yourself, if your relationship is low or negative, he’ll say no. If it’s high enough though, he’ll say sure, and give you the eye lighter, which unlocks a new interaction with Leitners, “Burn”. With this you’ll have a low chance of accidentally setting yourself on fire, lower the higher your Book Burner skill is, higher if it’s Desolation aligned. Burning Leitners is the quickest way to raise your Book Burner skill.
More on the Book Burner skill
Once you have the skill there’ll be a new Book Burner interaction on the computer, which will allow you to research Leitners, or basically anything you can ask Gerry about. Also let’s you research auctions you can go to, or shops with Leitners in them, you can also bid in online auctions for Leitners, where you’d pick an amount of money you’re willing to spend and the game will randomly decide if you’ve won (maybe using the same system as the lottery? just with the chances of winning being higher), and tell you by the next day, if you have won the Leitner will arrive in your post when the post next comes.
With the other two interactions, once you click on them it’ll randomise whether you find somewhere, if it does there’ll be a pop up asking you if you want to go now, if you say yes your sim will leave the lot and be gone for one sim hour, kind of like they went to work. There’s four possibilities for when they came back, A. They come back beaten up with a Leitner and a dazed moodlet “The price for peace/justice/idk” B. They come back not beaten up, with a Leitner, confident Moodlet C. They come back beaten up, no Leitner, Tense moodlet D. They come back, not beaten up, no Leitner, Fine/Tense moodlet “still out there”
There’s a possibility they could run into Mike Crew at these auctions? Not quite sure how this would work but your sim would come back with a slightly Negative relationship with his sim.
If you have a high enough Book Burner skill, people will come knocking at your door with Leitners, and they will pay you to burn it for them.
Avatars, Jurgen Leitner, more on the getting ahold of Leitners
I’m not so sure on how these would work but I’ve got a couple ideas
Avatars would be mostly Avatars from cannon, and you could find them just walking about, they’d have a lot of the same interactions as the interactions you have with Gerry, you could ask them for a Leitner, some of them will say yes, some of them might not have on, some of them will have one and say no. you can fight them for it. but be warned: they might do evil avatar things n shit, like setting you on fire, or micheal or helen could make you hysterical/ risk you dying of laughter if you don’t calm down QUICK.
I literally have no idea about Leitner, there could be a different mod with some Magnus institute stuff and maybe this one could come with a Magnus institute hanging around, maybe if you get a high enough book burner skill then you could summon him through the computer. the one thing ik for sure is you can 100% beat him up for Leitners, in fact, it’s encouraged! I’m thinking if you summon him and beat him up at level 9 it immediately gets you to level 10.
Custom Content
it would definitely include some custom content with it, stuff like Gerry’s tattoos, melty wax stuff for Jude and Agnes, lighting scar for mike, Mary’s tattoos, Jane’s whole.. thing. Yes custom content for these things probably already exsist out there somewhere but I think it’d be cool to make some to include actually in the mod.
