Heartstopper focuses primarily on high school rugby star Nick Nelson, played convincingly by breakout star Kit Connor, and his newfound infatuation with openly gay classmate Charlie Spring (Joe Locke). The Netflix show follows Nelson as he explores the many complicated milestones that come with discovering and coming to terms with one’s own sexuality.

We caught up with Brooklyn-based partners in life and painting, Colleen Barry (@colleenbarryart) and Will St. John (@willstjohnart) to discuss their exhibit “Ride the Tiger” presented by #AdamDriver and #JoanneTucker. The exhibit presents an array of figurative paintings at the Caelum Gallery in Chelsea on view to the public from March 11, 2022. Ride the Tiger is the culmination of a decade-long journey between Colleen and Will through personal and creative trenches leading the artists to emerge on the other side with a selection of art with an air of relaxed urgency and an illusion of effortlessness, appealing to the ‘insider and outsider’ in us all.

We chatted with actor Stuart Martin (@stuart_martin_) about the success of his hit Netflix show Army of Thieves, as well as Miss Scarlet and The Duke’s upcoming second season.
Many actors who start out working on television or the stage take the leap into film, but few do it in as big a way as Stuart. After starring regularly on TV dramas like #Medici & #Jamestown, Martin made a huge splash in the wildly popular #ZackSnyder comedy heist caper Army of Thieves, which shortly after its worldwide release on @Netflix became the streaming service’s No.1 film in over 90 countries. Martin was also recently announced as part of the cast of the director’s upcoming sci-fi fantasy epic Rebel Moon, which is scheduled to begin filming this April.

“Growing up, I’ve always felt very existential and had moments where I felt very outside myself. During lockdown, living with my family again spending days on end in my room, I started feeling that again. It’s a scary feeling, but also amazing at the same time because it made me understand myself better. I wanted to make a body of work listeners could turn to if they’re also feeling lost.”
With the COVID-19 pandemic well into its second year, many Gen-Z music artists like newcomer Au/Ra have had to create an entirely new roadmap when it comes to innovation. Au/Ra’s debut album “Soundtrack to an Existential Crisis” is still a record quintessentially herself that deconstructs what it means to be Gen-Z today.

✨ “The more representation there is, the more normalized we can get, and we move on to society where having a disability isn’t clickbait or something “inspirational.” It’s a philosophy that model and actress @JillianMercado has held on to since her youth, when she quickly noticed that no one on magazine covers or her TV screen looked like her. “I didn’t have this sort of representation that we’re seeing now. I was born in 1987, and I remember I only had television, radio and printed magazines to go and see myself being represented in those kinds of mediums or platforms, and I was really sad that I didn’t see anyone like myself.”

We caught up with artist @meglionelmurphy for an exclusive interview about her debut New York solo show “Traumatica Dramatica.” The exhibit on view at @untitledspaceny features her most recent series of vibrant, personal and powerful paintings on paper and panel. The painting are inspired directly from Lionel Murphy’s own experience with domestic violence and debilitating PTSD. Each of the artist’s vivid and intricate works explore her personal perspective as well as the historical precedent of emotional and physical violence against women throughout the canon of art history. “The idea of violence haunts me, and I try to etch that subject into even the pinkest of paint,” Lionel Murphy stated of her visceral portraits. In “Traumatica Dramatica,” Murphy depicts a reverence for fragility and humanity while examining questions about whiteness, gender, sexuality, class, pain, sickness, loneliness, and most of all– violence and its haunting memories.
The solo exhibition, curated by @indiracesarine, is on view at @untitledspaceny through July 2nd, with an artist reception the Thursday June 10th from 6-9pm
