“That was some of the best flying I’ve seen yet. Right up to the part where you got killed. You never, never leave your wing man.”

Top Gun(1986)

This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.

Top Gun has two brief shots that show strobe lights on airport runways in darkness. One sequence late in the film shows a few close-ups of the muzzle flashes from machine guns.

There are several sequences filmed on board real fighter jets, which fly through extensive complex maneuvers including barrel rolls, dives, and loops. Because this is all real, it’s very likely to be disorienting. Shots inside these jets are almost always filmed with shaking cameras.

Flashing Lights: 6/10. Motion Sickness: 10/10.

“We are all racing towards death. No matter how many great, intellectual conclusions we draw during our lives, we know they’re all only man-made, like God. I begin to wonder where it all leads. What can you do, except do what you can do as best you know how.”

For me, this was a lot better when Durning appears in it.

For multiple reasons.
