She didn’t want to be a consort of a legend, she wanted to BE a legend!
Think about it, she was the first vulcan in like a hundred years that called off their arranged wedding! The drama that would’ve caused! The scandal! The rumors! Spock was spared all that when he literally flew away into space with his husband.
But T'Pring, well she lives on Vulcan so she had to deal with all the comments, the looks and the questions. I wonder how many other vulcans she inspired to get divorced and live more fulfilling lives with people they love.
Spock didn’t fancy getting married either, but didn’t have the guts to call it off, he was 100% ready to marry her and follow tradition. T'Pring went against tradition, expectations and generations of “honoring the ways” when she called for Kal-if-fee.
More Captain Uhura / First Officer T’Pring… I wanted to draw Captain Uhura wearing the Jim Kirk tummy shirt but then things escalated into a shoujo manga…
Can we talk about how well Ethan Peck and Gia Sandhu nailed playing body-swapped Spock and T'pring? They were standing like each other, the subtle voice changes so Spock sounded more like T'pring and she sounded more like Spock, the general mannerisms and tone…it’s not easy to take your character and play another on top of them but they did it brilliantly.
Okay, SNW has done what I once deemed impossible. It’s gotten my invested in a T’Pring/Spock relationship, though not how you might expect.
It’s clear the two of them care deeply for one another; it’s clear that they’re trying to make it work, yet they’re simply just two different people with two very different lives. There’s love there, but its literally two ships passing each other in the night over and over again.
I also absolutely adore the glimpses we get into T’Pring’s character. She works with convicts and deviants; for a Vulcan she’s almost shockingly open to the emotions of not only herself, but of others. Yet she isn’t perfect. Spock’s humanity is something she constantly points out; it’s almost like she’s bitter about it. “If you didn’t have this part of you, we could love each other completely.”
And then Spock! In trying so hard to hide his human side he’s bringing out right in the middle of their relationship!
It’s just overall an exceptionally brilliant way of showing how two characters can be completely made for one another, yet at the same time absolutely not. There’s love there, but it isn’t easy. It isn’t Spock and Kirk meshing with one another as simple as breathing. T’Pring and Spock are fighting so hard for one another, but it just isn’t meant to be. Yet culture and family insists it must be. Until they resist, at least.
The pansy flower was also the symbol adopted by the Free Thinkers Society, a group of people who decided to adopt a mode of thought that was free from societal constraints, expectations, emotions or religious dogma. In it’s highest form it is based on pure logic and reason
