The new translation project I’ll be working on is Bara no Tameni (“For the Roses”) which is about an unfortunate girl named Yuri who, through the worst day possible, ends up living with the family she never knew she had. But like a twisted version of Cinderella, her mother and step-siblings are all beautiful and arrogant while she herself is plain and chubby. There is no prince to sweep her away (not a sober one anyway), but instead she and her new relatives learn to understand each other. Yuri as well eventually deals with her own insecurities.
The manga is pretty far from Sailor Moon in that it’s more josei than shoujo and has some questionable/harsh themes (body image, possible incest, infidelity, terminal illness). But it deals with them realistically and shows a dysfunctional family still holding themselves together the best way they can. It’s a very bittersweet sort of manga with some good comedic points. Overall I really enjoy it and hope to bring in a new audience.
I’m starting from the beginning, both rescanning and re-translating from the bunkoban, and will update whenever I get to a good stopping point. Since this means about 10 page chunks, I’ll put them under Read Mores so I don’t clutter your dashboards.
In addition, if you prefer, I’m also uploading the live-action drama here(Taiwanese, English subtitled by… VietLove, I believe? I think that’s name of the group, but they are also credited individually in the end credits). You can watch ahead and see if it’s the kind of story you want to read :)

Translator’s Note: Surgical masks are common to wear when you have a cold in Asia to avoid spreading airborne germs. Also, I believe Mamoru’s last comment is in reference to a Japanese proverb/superstition that fools can’t catch colds. …probably implying that he lost his cold from being stupid as well :D
