I can’t thank you all enough! My monograph, TRANSLATIONS, is now fully funded with 16 days left in the campaign! IMAGINATIVE
Telepresence art installation by H.O features two rooms, one with a display with eye-tracking interface to control a ceramic cup, the other a chromokey-suited robotic arm to carry out instructions from the former room:
What if our thoughts materialized as tangible actions in remote locations?
IMAGINATIVE is an installation work consisting of two rooms.
In the first, there is a monitor displaying a table with a cup in an empty room. Using a specialized (eye tracking / brain computer) interface, participants can telekinetically control the cup in the remote space. The shifting of the cup back and forth, poised in the air, expresses someone’s imagination in real-time.
In the second room, the audience will encounter an extraordinary spectacle. Sitting on the table is a green robot arm enabling the cup to move, while the floor surrounding the table is covered in broken cups.
Given that brain computer interfaces directly connect our “consciousness” with the external world, what does “imagination” mean? What is the “imagination” that we present to the world?

Deviations from three groups.
Like yesterday, normal behaviour is invisible but this time there are three groups and each has a distinct colour. When a boid diverges from its group its colour shifts and it becomes more visible.
In this particular run there were a couple big collisions between different flocks in the top right corner so you can see several trails marked by deviant boids. These boids return to their group quickly once exposed.

Identifying deviants.
Normal behaviour is invisible but any variation from a boid’s in-group will cause the boid to be drawn in purple, graduating to red, orange, and yellow as it diverges from the status quo.

What the flock.
Tried applying force to each boid rather than just having it steer. Not happy with the behaviour but it’s still damn prettay.
Each boid’s colour changes according to the magnitude of the force acting on it.

Interorbital pathways.
Tuning this flocking behaviour sure takes a lot of work! I’m starting to build up a toolset for herding boids.

Microcosm.
Tried colliding the agents like particles but it was boring until I arranged them in a ring.

Birds of a feather.
All boids will repel each other but only those of the same colour will align rotation and stay close to their neighbours. Getting more political again.
