The old and the new….

PACIFIC OCEAN (October 19, 2020) – Past and future intersected when a quadcopter-style drone resupplied, at sea, one of the United States Navy’soldestsubmarines,Ohio-class ballistic missile submarineUSSHenry M. Jackson (SSBN 730).(The submarine was commissioned in 1984.)

Delivery complete….the drone heads for home.

The test event was successful….with the 21st century drone depositing its package (look to the far right in the video) for pick-up on the submarine’s hull by waiting crew members….and returning to operators aboard a nearby surface ship.

Electronics Technician, Submarine, Navigation,1st Class Carlos Gonzalez, USN and Chief Electronics Technician, Submarine, Navigation Michael Inman, USN, pilot the drone from a nearby surface vessel.

While short in distance and small in size, the experimental operation demonstrated potential for future resupply operations without the need for ports or, even, nearby ships. (OrAmazon Prime!)

[The following from Cdr. Norm Green gives more information on the above photo.] “Close inspection of the photo reveals that the aircraft has flown 25 combat missions when the picture was taken; it was pretty busy since we had only flown missions on about 23 days at that point. Using Russian math and some guesswork I would guess that the picture was taken on perhaps the 4th or the 5th of Sept, I flew that aircraft both Days. At first I thought that it might have been the 6th of Sept, the day Norm Bundy crashed in that aircraft; but I doubt that because of the light ripples in the water. There was no wind on the 6th of Sept, the Gulf of Tonkin was as smooth as glass. I remember that the cat officers could only give us 5-6 knots above stall speed that day. The Rosy had all boilers on line and was pulling her guts out. Amazing, sometimes I struggle to remember my street number but remember things from 48 years ago.”

Artifact Road Trip - Maine

A painting of the destroyer, USS ANDERSON, on patrol in Tenants Harbor, St. George, Maine. It depicts an angled view of the gray ship moving in open water. The number "411" is visible in large characters on the bow and an American flag flies at the stern. Several sailing vessels can be seen behind the ANDERSON in the distant left background. In the forefront of the scene is a small fishing boat, with three fishermen on the deck, moving in the opposite direction from the ANDERSON. The name of the fishing vessel is visible on the stern: GARY W. / TENANTS HARBOR. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner: EDWIN WHITMAN 10/1940. The painting is framed in a 2" white-painted wood frame.ALT

It hurts
It’s lonely
It’s heartbreaking
It tests your relationship
You cry so many tears it seems never ending
But you know what I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love my husband the same no matter how long he is gone.I await the day he is back in my arms and in my daily life again. I love him so much that I would wait forever for him, he truly is my soul mate and despite the hardships we have with him being in the military we can concur anything together. I am seriously counting down the days for this deployment to be over It takes two to make a military marriage work and I know I will give my all for the rest of my life ❤️

So it’s that time again, the one where my heart breaks because my husband is on deployment ⚓️

So it’s that time again, the one where my heart breaks because my husband is on deployment ⚓️ However my husband tried to make things as easy as possible for me so one night after I come home from work he surprises me with a puppy! He’s a miniature pinscher that we’ve called Gunner he’s definitely helped even if it’s just a little, nothing compares to having my husband home with him. I am so ready for this deployment to be over ⚓️
