Tasked with taking over “The Washington Post” in 1963, Katharine boldly stepped up to the challenge. Along the way, she brought home quite the array of awards for the mantelpiece, and helped take down a US President in the process. The person that ran the paper during Watergate deserves some of the credit beyond just the reporters, don’t you think? The truth is that all of her accomplishments she did in a male-dominated industry where sometimes even her own employees didn’t accept her. Would it be farfetched to speculate she may be one of the inspirations behind Millennium Trilogy character, Erika Berger. Yes or no, our op-ed says: Never mess with a push girl!

April 4th 1841: President William Henry Harrison dies
On this day in 1841, the 9th President of the United States, William Henry Harrison, died in office. Harrison’s time in office was the shortest of any US President, serving only 32 days. He died of complications from pneumonia which he supposedly caught at his inauguration, held in the middle of winter, as he did not want to look old and so refused to wear a coat. Harrison was the oldest President to take office, aged 68, until Ronald Reagan in 1981. He was succeeded upon his death by his Vice-President John Tyler.

We are proud to say that Kamala Harris, Jamaican / East Indian American, has announced her candidacy for President of the United States. Kamala was born in Oakland, California to a Jamaican immigrant father who is now a Stanford University economics professor, and an East Indian immigrant mother who was a breast cancer scientist. After Kamala’s parents divorced when she was 7 years old, Kamala moved with her mother to Montreal, Canada, where her mother continued her scientific research and taught at McGill University. Kamala graduated from high school in Montreal and then elected to attend Howard University in Washington D.C., one of the top-ranked historically Black universities in the US. At Howard, Kamala majored in political science and economics and she pledged AKA. After Howard, Kamala returned to California to earn her J.D. at the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco.
Kamala’s career includes her time as a Deputy District Attorney for Alameda County, Chief of the Community & Neighborhood Division for the San Francisco City Attorney, the District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, the Attorney General for the State of California, and her current position, the junior US Senator for the State of California. She has been known as supportive of Medicare for all, criminal justice reform, immigrant rights, and American unity and togetherness. While we generally avoid politics in ABC and have no idea whether Kamala will be successful or not in her US Presidential bid, we are still very proud that Kamala, as a Blindian or Blasian person, has positioned herself to be a viable candidate for the highest office in the land, and we wish her all the best with much love and many blessings!
