Last night we definitely had the coolest neighbors on the block. We *finally* got to meet Jessy and Mander, her 1978 Dodge Commander @a.girl.and.her.commander in person! (We’ve been chatting online for well over a year at this point!).

Although we’re putting in long days driving to get from Denver to NorCal to attend @theoutbound @pursuit.series in Bear Valley this weekend, we made a tiny detour to see our friend Gavin @winnebagowanderlust (with the badass AMC pacer in this shot) and meet Jessy. We spent less than 24-hours together but quickly bonded over our vintage rigs, and many on-the-road repairs.

1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster owned by Juan Manuel Fangio
El Maestro competed in 52 Formula One races and drove off the victor in 24 of them. That means he won nearly every other race he entered. This led to five world championships with four different teams, with the last four titles all coming year after year from 1954 through 1957.
Finished in Metallic Light Blue over a Cream leather interior, the car stayed with Fangio throughout his life, though in 1986, after he became too old to drive regularly, it was placed in the official Juan Manuel Fangio Museum, located in Fangio’s hometown of Balcarce, Argentina.
This 300 SL was no garage queen, as the condition of its leather attests. The car was originally delivered in London, after which Fangio drove it across a number of European countries as part of his ambassadorial work for Mercedes. He shipped it to Argentina in 1960 and would continue to drive it as part of his work expanding Mercedes’ operations in South America in the following decades. It’s believed that almost all of the 72,951 kilometers showing on the odometer were driven by the legend.

Rita Hayworth’s 1941 Lincoln Continental coupe
Miss Hayworth was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the prewar period, appearing in movies like “The Lady from Shanghai” and “My Gal Sal."
The Continental was a 24th birthday gift from Orson Welles, who delivered the car to Hayworth on a movie set in Georgia. The two were married soon after.
The Continental must have made for an impressive gift. Launched in 1940 as the first Lincoln to bear that name, it was described by architect Frank Lloyd Wright as "the most beautiful car in the world."
It was a pet project of Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford, who sought to bring some European influence to American luxury cars.
Hayworth kept the Continental for about 30 years, although she donated the original bumpers to a World War II scrap drive.
The actress eventually gifted the car to her secretary Frita Wolfe, who later sold it to Aspen Pittman for $2,000. The car was then sold to the Art Astor Collection, which treated it to a full restoration.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé !
The car is one of only two prototype racers developed by engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut and his team for the 1955 Carrera Panamericana. That year’s competition, though, was called off, and Mercedes abandoned motorsport entirely, all due to the infamous Le Mans tragedy that June where Pierre Levegh and his SLR catapulted into the crowd, killing the driver along with 83 spectators.
Uhlenhaut’s project was subsequently shuttered and this particular example, fit with a 297 hp inline-eight engine mated to a five-speed transmission, came into his possession. The fact that its top speed was touted to be approximately 186 mph only added to this 300 SLR’s mystique.

1956 Robert Morris’s 356 Porsche Speedster
As a leading proponent of Minimalism Robert Morris was a conceptually driven artist and thinker whose sculpture and sculptural installations of the 1960s and 1970s gravitated towards feats of industrial fabrication with commercially available materials including aluminum and steel.
Morris enlisted his sculpture assistant, Rolf Horst, to also help customize the Speedster with modifications influenced by the Porsche RS-61, including an aluminum head fairing, passenger tonneau cover, alloy seat, and alloy rear wheel spats. Morris also opted to strip the car’s body of all trim, including the removal of door handles to create a smooth body line unique to his Speedster.
For the interior, Morris installed custom elements including a blacked-out vinyl dash and diamond-tread rubber floor mats. Thus renovated, Morris drove the Speedster until 2007, when he chose to dissemble it and paint it silver, hanging the freshly painted panels on the walls of his New York studio.

1960 Porsche 356B Outlaw - Concours Restoration,
This is an exceptionally good 356B that remains with it’s matching numbers and has been restored into an outlaw spec 356. It was delivered new to an American solider based in Roswell, New Mexico, the owner then relocated to Connecticut where following his death the car remained in a barn until 2017 when it was found and sold to the UK. The car was found with 27,225 miles on the odometer which is believed to be the original mileage, once the car had arrived in the UK a four year restoration commenced, some of the UK’s leading experts were involved including; 911 Rennsport, Workshop Seventy7, Jaz Porsche, Riviera Autobody and Roger Bray.
The car was stripped back to bare metal, repairs and custom work were made to the body, new panels were fitted, the engine and gearbox, which are original to the car, where completely rebuilt plus the running gear, suspension and brakes were refurbished or replaced with new components. Re-chroming of all the brightwork was carefully done.
A bespoke interior and headlining were created and fitted with luxurious Scottish Muirhead leather and German weave carpet, the original gauges were professionally refurbished, after four years of restoration logging an insane number of man hours and an eye watering amount spent, the car was complete from a total nut and bolt restoration in this super desirable specification.
