I’ve been meaning to post about this for quite a while now because I keep seeing people asking questions and arguing about this. Thought I’d settle this once and for all.

In the original Mafia II, it’s hard to see but looking at cutscenes where there are closeups on Vito’s face, his eyes are blue. It’s a darker shade of blue but it’s still blue and not brown like what many people thought:

If you still have doubts about this, open up Photoshop/GIMP, zoom into his eyes and use a color picker tool on his irises.

THEY’RE BLUE!

In the game is he from Sicily or what part of Italy? I can’t name many Sicilians with blue eyes which makes him intersting none the less

Vito is from Messina in Sicily. And you’re right - not many Sicilians have blue eyes. Blue eyes (and also blond hair) are commonly associated with north Italians rather than south Italians.

From the game itself, there’s Leo Galante, who has blond hair and blue eyes. I did some research and found out that his mother is likely of north Italian descent. Leo’s probably of French descent too, his mother’s name is Genevieve Ferrari, and Ferrari is a surname common in north Italy.

image

From the Mafia remake, we have Sam Trapani, who also has blue (blue-grayish?) eyes. I believe he’s Sicilian, his ancestors likely came from Trapani in Sicily.

Scaletta and Barbaro were like brothers. In those days, you were hard-pressed to be able to hire one and not end up with the other at his side. You have to understand, the mob’s a group of people who do just about anything to get what they want. Sure, they may throw around words like “family” but there’s no such thing as loyalty in their world. Not really. Scaletta and Barbaro, they were the exception to the rule.”

THEY’RE BLUE!

EnterMafia III. Hangar 13 changed his eye color from blue to brown. Look at his eyes here…

image

… and look at his FBI wanted poster. No arguments from me here, his eyes are definitely brown.

image

Why? Well, the only explanation I have for this is that Hangar 13 forgot his eye color!

Now we have Mafia II: Definitive Edition, which made Vito’s eyes… even bluer.

image

Keep in mind that this is a remasteredversion of the 2010 game, which means that the devs simply extracted and upgraded textures and other files from the original game. If Vito’s eyes were brown in the original 2010 game, then they would also be brown in the 2020 remaster, don’t you think?

Oh, and in the PC version of Mafia: Definitive Edition, you can use mods to play as Vito (using his remake model from the ending cutscene). Guess what his eye color is in the remake? Hint: it’s not brown!

Using a color picker tool on his eyes here:

IT’S BLUE AGAIN!

Yep. I stand by my words: Vito’s eyes are blue in Mafia II (both in the original 2010 game and the 2020 remaster) as well as the Mafia remake, and they’re only brown in Mafia III, most likely because of developer oversight.

I’m personally going with dark blue as his canon eye color, because that’s what his eye color is in the original 2010 game

Thinking about how tall Vito is…

image

If you’ve read The Godfather, Sonny Corleone is almost six feet tall, and the book describes him as “tall for a first-generation American of Italian parentage".

So yeah, Vito is kinda tall for someone of his time and background.

BTW - his Mafia III FBI poster says that he’s 5′11″. He looks to be 6′1″ in this Mafia II screenshot? He’s 18 here.

So I installed a player model changer mod for Mafia: Definitive Edition, and if you’re curious, here’s what Vito looks like in some other cutscenes. Now, it definitely could be improved but it doesn’t look that bad, honestly?

I dunno why he looks so weird in THAT one cutscene but I think it’s the lighting.

EDIT 07/10/2020: Since Tumblr is being an ass and won’t show my latest post in the Vito Scaletta tag, here are more screenshots of him in the Mafia remake. Believe me, he looks nicer there.

I’m very happy to announce that I FINALLY finished my first video for my Youtube channel!

You probably don’t know this, but, instead of being a tumblr, 9thtrapdoor was supposed to be just a yt channel. But I couldn’t seem to finish anything I started, so I decided to take a chance on smaller projects, like images and gifs.

But video editing has always been my main passion, so I never stopped editing whenever I had a free time/inspiration hit me. Mafia II - City Life was the first one that I started editing back in july 2017. I finallyfinished it and I’m so happy and proud of it. It isn’t perfect, obviously, but I’ve learned a lot from it, and my videos will be a lot better in the future (or so I hope)!

More videos are coming soon. Hope you guys like this one <3
