Hey friends

I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to bring up a Hozier-related issue that some people might see floating around the internet and might be confused about.

I never listened to the Van Morrison cover that Hozier performed, but apparently he sang a racial slur. (g*psy) (apparently this was a slur that assumed Romani people were “Egyptians” — this might not be true but is just something I heard!!)

I’m kind of confused on the issue because that word is used and has been evolved in so many ways. To Roma people, it’s offensive. In the states, it’s a fashion style associated with “hippie”. In Great Britain and Ireland, it’s used as a [offensive?] synonymous term for Travellers.

I’m just wondering where other people stand on this to help me formulate my own opinion. Do you think Hozier should be held accountable and publicly apologize for singing someone else’s lyrics?

I don’t think it would hurt to apologize but it is a little strange that the context of words and their uses/meanings feel like they’re changing or becoming more extreme nowadays. I don’t want to ever offend people, but I also want to allow words to be able to flourish and evolve their meanings into something positive. (Like how “Yankee” used to be offensive for New Englanders/New Yorkers and now there’s literally a baseball team called the Yankees!)

I’m not trying to offend anyone, just wanted to thought dump here and open up a discussion about words and holding people accountable! Feel free to comment on this or reblog with a response, but please be nice to each other! :•)

Some outtakes from RTE Comic Relief!! The video is too long to share on tumblr but the whole video is available on his Instagram!

Just in case anyone wants to know how Hozier is doing in Lockdown, here’s a video that was posted a few hours ago:

He looks so cute in a tshirt, and his hair looks nice n’ soff but it’s probably actually a tangled hot mess

Is this the part where I mention the super secret Hozier song I didn’t know about until a few days ago and started crying to it while listening to it in my bed

absolutely

Ok so listen. This isn’t really a “secret” Hozier song for some people, and actually, it’s a cover of Otis Rush and His Band’s (1949-1952?) song “My Love Will Never Die”.

I was looking at Hozier’s discography the other day and found that this song was released on the vinyl version of the “In The Woods Somewhere EP”.

The vinyl version of some of his EPs from the beginning of his career are super rare, and this cover isn’t available for digital streaming (at least not in the US/not anymore.)

So here it is! I know a lot of fans are already craving new music from Hozier, but luckily we’ve been blessed with a lot of [unknown] covers he’s done which can almost feel like new music to us! This one is good for a gloomy day or rainy train/bus ride:

Ok but the stone walled house covered in ivy and French doors that “Jesus” busted out of give me strong cottage core vibes
