Many have said that Wasteland,Baby dances between optimism and nihilism. But I initially thought and what may be something to think about.
What if the Nihilism is
Hedonism…
Since most of the songs that have a more nihilistic vibe tend to focus on pursuits and escapades to very physical pleasures and vices (ala drinking and sex) maybe it’s more dancing the line between Optimism and Hedonism. Just my opinion
Imagine one day out of nowhere, Hozier reveals something like, “Oh yeah I’ve actually been madly in love with this woman for like 5 years and we’re gonna get married, she just wanted to stay private. But we’re ready to tell you now :).” And she is just this gorgeous ethereally beautiful (I picture like living in the U.K but like was not born there or of British/Irish/Scottish descent) pansexual woman with long flowing hair and is either only a few inches shorter than him or like bite size, and just exudes fierceness and confidence and power but does it with ease and grace. She also to be cheeky has like a leather glove or jacket on or playing with some small rope to show she’s a dom or switch badass. And while we would be sad he was off the market, we also wouldn’t be because he deserves such an incredible woman. This is who he writes songs about. She is also like in the reveal picture either resting on his shoulder or they’re laying next to each other somewhere, who is cuddling who idk. She wears minimal makeup but has on like really bold colors. Sorry I went off on a tangent, but honestly Andy deserves an amazing woman

I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to bring up a Hozier-related issue that some people might see floating around the internet and might be confused about.
I never listened to the Van Morrison cover that Hozier performed, but apparently he sang a racial slur. (g*psy) (apparently this was a slur that assumed Romani people were “Egyptians” — this might not be true but is just something I heard!!)
I’m kind of confused on the issue because that word is used and has been evolved in so many ways. To Roma people, it’s offensive. In the states, it’s a fashion style associated with “hippie”. In Great Britain and Ireland, it’s used as a [offensive?] synonymous term for Travellers.
I’m just wondering where other people stand on this to help me formulate my own opinion. Do you think Hozier should be held accountable and publicly apologize for singing someone else’s lyrics?
I don’t think it would hurt to apologize but it is a little strange that the context of words and their uses/meanings feel like they’re changing or becoming more extreme nowadays. I don’t want to ever offend people, but I also want to allow words to be able to flourish and evolve their meanings into something positive. (Like how “Yankee” used to be offensive for New Englanders/New Yorkers and now there’s literally a baseball team called the Yankees!)
I’m not trying to offend anyone, just wanted to thought dump here and open up a discussion about words and holding people accountable! Feel free to comment on this or reblog with a response, but please be nice to each other! :•)
