[Reupload] (Click for higher quality!)

I’ve been sitting on a sketch from 2020 of these two and I’ve finally gone ahead and painted it!

Just a nice, quiet night out in the Theater District with some takoyaki ;o;

Please check out my commission information here!

oof. based on one half of a diptych of self-portraits! I don’t think I’ve uploaded it on here yet? it’s pretty old by now but!!! i still love it.

working from a digital piece was incredibly fun and the physical medium made it feel so much more real. it felt a lot more cathartic painting it out? a physical reminder instead of a digital file to be forgotten.

From a painting class! Took a trip to the art institute (AIC) and was enamored with this painting by Max Ernst.

man!! i really wish i could get the colors as vibrant as they are irl with this one! i really love working with oil on board on these really small, intimate pieces.

I miss painting! just. wish my house was conducive to oils lol.

And a closer look:

how the heck do i tag this

yeah! this was really cathartic to work through; it’s. been a hot minute since these events happened (maybe 2013?) and my life’s changed a whole lot since then. I genuinely would never have thought that I could get to where I am today back then; it felt so incredibly validating to make this and acknowledge the growth I’ve made!

the last piece for my figure drawing class. The only actual live drawing I did for the class due to covid. which sucked!! really bad!!! it was nice making traditional stuff but. it was actually miserable not being in that figure drawing environment. i’m glad i made the work that I did! just wish it was made under better conditions.

some more experimental stuff for figure drawing! inspired by some of Sid’s inkwork (his art is incredible). This was pretty relaxing to work on! really helped visualizing shadows more.

Figure drawing from my last semester! This was the first traditional piece I had made in a while, really shaking off the dust making this. I don’t normally use colored pencils like this and making the piece itself was an upsetting ordeal, less because of the effort put in and more

These shapes got kinda lost when I killed it with colored pencils but I’m still a fan of this sketch!!

Digital, 5″ x 5″

A painting I’ve been working on-and-off again on for a while! Ryuji’s just. Really, really fun to draw and work with.

(some artist commentary under the cut!)

It was really nice to be able to take my time with this! It’s been a while since I’ve done a painting without a deadline looming over me. Working on this really just. helped me shake off a lot of the dust on my skills.

Ryuji himself was painted on one layer, and the background on a different one. Doing digital paintings on one layer makes the process feel a lot more traditional. I try to avoid using the undo button whenever possible and instead just continuously paint over mistakes or areas I don’t particularly like and redo them.
