the whole idea that social awareness only exists as a tumblr thing is so weird and tired and lazy .. you guys be the ones telling people to go experience the real world and i think the reason people are… socially aware and conscious of these issues is bc… well… they ‘went outside’

Alright monster high tag I’m going to explain you about racial coding because some of you still can’t understand how a cartoon character can be a monster and have a “human race” to go along with it.

So first off we do not live in a bubble. Nothing created exists in a bubble. It is all influenced by the surrounding culture. Black children are going to look at Honey and say “hey, she has hair like mine” and relate to that. Mexican children will look at Skelita and recognize the sugar skull and be drawn to her. Things do not exists in a bubble.

Now for racial coding. Racial coding is when you take a non-human character and code them as a specific type of race, or ethnicity. Now, sometimes racial coding can be racist. Examples:

All these characters are very obviously supposed to represent a certain race even thought they re non-human. The problem is they are represented racistly.

Now on for some good examples!

Luigi is a car, we all know he is Italian.

Flow is a car, we can still tell she’s black.

Eduardo is a imaginary friend, we still know he’s latin@

Wilt is an imaginary friend, we can still tell he’s black

Jinafire is a dragon, we all know she’s Chinese

Marisol is a Maricoxi, she is still obviously South American & Latin@ (tbh she reads as Peruvian specifically to me)

Hello Kitty is a cat, because she is created in Japan and is often displayed as participating in Japanese culture we know she’s Japanese.

So even though Honey Swamp is a monster.

She still reads.

as black.

And if you can’t see that you are a racist.

Black folkget shit fortheir natural hairall the time. When you, as any race other than black, straighten Honey’s hair you are part of the problem and are racist.

I hope everyone learned a thing :)

P.S. I will not be responding to racist trying to defend themselves.

Wilt is black?

Yes he is! they’re not even subtle about it in the show, but let me give a few examples from least important to most important.

Wilt’s voice actor is Phil LaMarr

The kid (pictured: man) who created wilt is Jordan Michael’s… an obvious Michael Jordan parody.

He was created in “The Hood” and this was his surroundings.

Most of this can be found in the wiki for Good Wilt Hunting.  but the strongest piece of evidence for Wilt being black doesn’t come from that episode but it is directly related to is how he sees himself.

and that is the prop arm he wears over his stump to prank little kids in the Halloween episode.

Black skinned props and prosthetics aren’t exactly easy to find. (there’s a joke about this in the movie Bad Santa where the black elf character has to wear elf ears that are white skinned because they don’t make black elf ear props or if they do they are extremely hard to come by.)

which means Wilt had to activity search that prop out or make it himself because that is how he seems himself. His creator was black ,his neighborhood was black so even though he isn’t human. he feels black.

So if he was human, he would be a black human.

A good explanation for what we mean by “coding” in regards to non-humans

(I’ve made so many of these posts I’ve lost track)

  • compare ANYTHING they don’t like to Nazis or fascists; for example, if you do something as tame as correct them after they misgender a trans person, suddenly you‘re a fascist and you’re taking away their free speech (also, they love to reference George Orwell’s 1984, and none of them even understand what that book is about)
  • ignore context in every discussion
  • claim that legitimate terms that have been used by sociologists for decades are “buzzwords made up by SJWs”
  • call anyone who points out the flaws in their logic “SJW”, “tumblrina”, or “special snowflake” as an insult, overusing those terms so much that they no longer have any meaning; those terms are actually now just code for “person who isn’t a bigot”
  • anytime a marginalized person talks about their life experiences, accuse that person of lying because it doesn’t line up with what they want to hear (I see this a lot when women speak about their personal experiences with sexual harassment/assault or when neurodivergent people talk about triggers or self-diagnosis)
  • bend over backwards to defend blatant white supremacists, ableists, transphobes, misogynists, and homophobes, but then lose their shit over cisphobia, heterophobia, misandry, etc. and then claim that they’re for equality

As always, add your own if you want to

disabilityisnormal:

Please submit photos, videos, illustrations, visual posts that show your real life, every day experience of the world as a disabled person. Whatever that may be! It can be anything from mundane every day things, your fashion, your selfies, your food habits, the things you enjoy doing, to the adventures you go on, basically anything anyone would ever share about themselves. It doesn’t have to be a 100% positive experience, though, as that is not real life. Any emotion, any experience. I’m interested in presenting what it is like for disabled people to live their lives.

Photos, videos etc. should probably include you, a part of you, or your actual Point of View to be a true depiction of you and your experience. They should also be clear, the subject matter should be recognizable, and relatively interesting to look at (if not downright hilarious commentary on the mundaneness of living life as a human being). If we want this project to make a difference it should be something that all kinds of people want to look at.Let’s burst out of our echo-chamber and refuse to be ignored!

Whatever else, you should be presenting yourself and your experience how YOU want to be presented. This is about both education and empowerment. I’m not here to dictate how you depict your life and what “Disability Is Normal” means for you.

No photos or videos of disabled people that are not you, please, unless it is a group shot that includes you and you are also disabled.

If you know a disabled person who wants their experience to be shared as part of this project please have them submit. If they are not physically able to submit, then please message me with a copy of their explicit consent - this would be either in physical signed form (a photo of a signed note), a video of them consenting, or a voice recording. A simple YES answer to a ‘do you want this to be shared on Disability is Normal’ - a physical nod, or thumbs up etc. is good enough for me if the person is non-verbal.

I want to try and be inclusive as is absolutely possible, but this is a place for us to be represented exactly how we want to be. These are our voices!

This is a project for all disabilities, all genders, all ethnicities, all skills, all lifestyles, all perspectives, all social classes and all disabled experiences. We are numerous, we are everywhere and we WILL be acknowledged <3

Please reblog, follow, boost and tag with your disabilities! Let’s get this off the ground - we can only do this together!

If you’re not disabled, please also consider boosting and following! Posts are queued at no more than 4 per day, will be absolutely personable, real, enlightening and interesting. Some posts may even hit your aesthetic tastes or personal interests! (;

I’ve been busy starting a new YouTube channel (more on that later!). Essentially, a large part of it

I’ve been busy starting a new YouTube channel (more on that later!). Essentially, a large part of it is wanting to share my experience of the world but also to try and normalize disability! ( https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCnETew92-OPnj4w2S-03a0g)

Which brings me on to my point! I started a new tag! #DisabilityIsNormal I’m going to be using it on YouTube and all platforms I can get my grubby mitts on. Disabled friends, feel free to tag your photos, posts, videos, everything of you doing normal things, just the same as everyone else! Let’s normalize disability together. Let’s show the world we exist, from our own perspective, and we are people just like everyone else! Take up space in the world with me! Let’s make everyone else start to acknowledge that we exist and our experiences are real and valid.

{please don’t remove my words}
