AFRICAN WILD DOG also called “Cape hunting dog or painted dog” likes to roam the open plains of Africa. They live in packs and are usually lead by one monogamous breeding couple. As very social pack animals, they like to share food, and help the ill and weak out.
One of the ways they communicate is through adorable little sneezes! It is used to vote on when to move on to the next hunt.
Unfortunately these adorable huge ear-ed doggos are continuously shrinking in population due to lost of home. (They used to roam across most of the continent!) Classified as endangered, they could benefit from some protection and support! Or just the spread of the love for these cute beasts.

Revealed: hunting strategy of the endangered African wild dog
A new study led by researchers at the Royal Veterinary College has revealed that African wild dogs may be more robust than previously thought.
The researchers used custom-built GPS collars to collect position and speed data to reconstruct the hunt behaviour of an entire pack of African wild dogs in northern Botswana.
The researchers found that given the the opportunity, African wild dogs hunt with frequent short chases. In addition, the pack showed no evidence of coopertive hunting, apart from travelling together and sharing the kills made by an individual dog.
Understanding the hunting strategies of a species helps conservationists to identify which areas should be protected, or where new populations can be reintroduced most successfully.

“Eurasian Tree Sparrow”, commission. I think I subconsciously painted a very fluffy warm bird orb (borb) of a sparrow because it was pretty cold out when I was working on this! Many thanks to my client for letting me get excited with some moss. 5″x7″ Oil on panel.
“Chipping Sparrow”… my first time painting with a palette knife (in the background only). It was fun, like painting with creamy frosting. Really expensive frosting. 5″x7″ Oil on panel.
