Kakuzu is a former military scout living and working in the countryside after the war, and Hidan is a country girl who believes in Slavic mythology. Hidan is driven out of the village for her violent temper, and Kakuzu picks her up on the outskirts of the village, deciding that it wouldn’t hurt to have extra hands on the farm.
