I’m selfish.
It’s been weeks since she´s been here and I’ve never checked up on her after she had fainted.
I didn’t even know if it would help, for I have no clue how alien biology works. Though, I managed to sit down and talk to her about her planet and did find some things I could help her with.
She was sitting in front of the TV and was watching some animal documentary, and I suddenly got the confidence to sit next to her. I didn’t speak a word, but it was progress for me.
Suddenly, she commented on something the animals were doing, and thus started a question-and-answer round where I told her about animals and humans (for as far as I knew) and she told me about the ones on her planet.
“I have seen these creatures walking outside, but they were small,” she had said.
I explained the concept of ‘pets’ ,which only lead to more questions which I had no answers to.
Like “Why can these lions not be pets? They are as big as creatures on Nomus and quite tameable.”
What am I supposed to say to that? I did learn now that they have animals on her planet too, and they’re apparently about the sizes of lions or larger. Considering her length, this is quite a surprise. Although I know she’s still a child, I have no idea how big she can grow so I wouldn´t know.
This led to me asking some questions, and my fascination just grew and grew. We spoke a whole two hours without me having a panic attack! Until I prompted her to show me her real self.
It was my fault, but I thought I could handle it after she told me what made her different than humans.
Apparently we grow to about the same length, but because the rotation on Nomus is almost twice as fast as ours, their lifespan is shorter. Moreover, they grow faster and sleep more frequently.
“Most of the time when I hide, I sleep,” she had confessed,” in one of the rooms.”
She did seem tired, I noticed, so I asked if everything else was alright. Considering the different circumstances we live in, her being here could actually kill her. Writing this down even gives me anxiety.
“The gravitation is much bigger here, and the planet is farther from the sun than Nomus.”
Aka she has difficulties walking and she’s cold.
The cold was easy to solve, and my sweater was kind of cute on her because of her size.
The problem was the gravitation, and I don’t know if I can manage to create shoes that are anti-gravity. I have to go against the laws of nature, but it’s actually not the first time so I’ll try.
So for temporary relief, I made her some roller skates so she could move around without using too much energy. Well, I bought them, but that’s a problem for another time. I already have an excuse if Pepper questions why the hell I bought roller skates. She will.
It´s fun to hear her roll around, red wheels zooming by my door. The giggles are better than the deafening silence. I think she´s growing on me, and I on her. at least if she keeps the facade of a human.
The grey of her skin is off, too dark to be grey yet too light to be black. It´s a color not from this world, as if my eyes don´t have the ability to see it and instead fill it with a weird shade of grey. It´s perfectly plausible, and seeing as she can shape-shift, she can probably take on colors that don´t exist. But I won´t be able to see them so it wouldn´t matter.
Tonight, I followed her secretly to the room she sleeps in. It wasn´t hard to follow the sound of the skates, they echo around the whole building. The room was Pepper´s. Used to be Peppers, actually, when she was still my secretary and slept over occasionally. I never went in there. It was one of the many guestrooms, anyways, but seeing her slowly lay under the covers touched something in me. I don´t know if it´s bad or good yet.
On other news, I have been having better nights and almost got a full five hours of sleep. My dreams have been weird, though, and the fact that I can remember them is also weird. Usually I don´t remember unless they´re traumatic or ruin my view on things.
But these were… good, I guess? Yesterday, for example, I dreamed about flying with the suit on under a star-lit sky ( which by the way is rare now that the sky is so polluted and the moon is barely visible). I was peaceful, the city was quiet and no commotion was anywhere the whole night. Then, I went higher and higher, flying in front of the moon and closer to the stars.
Alas, I was floating through space. In contrast to New York, when I flew through the hole and almost died, I was thriving. The fear that I had felt back then, was replaced by a sense of comfort. I swam through space, looking down on Earth and it´s inhabitants and I had never felt that calm.
I don´t know what caused me to suddenly not have consistent nightmares when I close my eyes, but I have a feeling Ruva is behind it. I don´t know what she´s capable of, and for all I know she´s manipulating me and my mind. Why she would make me see it is beyond me, but we´ll see what happens.
Tomorrow I will do extensive research and find out what she can and can´t eat. I don´t think she can live on water only for too long, and I can´t afford to have a dead alien in my house.
Oh yeah, there´s also her mom. That´s also something I have to worry about. Maybe I should talk to Fury. Or Pepper, or Rhodey.
Whatever, now that I can actually sleep, I will not take it for granted. I´ll deal with everything tomorrow.
