This was a spur of the moment thing, after watching the new 3D animated film, I went on a little nostalgia ride through the Lupin III franchise. I’d very much like to make my next Vaporwave installment around this fantastic anime.
it’s not “officially” Lupin III but it’s a live action Italian film that centers around the gang. I found myself enjoying it a lot more than I thought & the actors did a great job portraying the characters (plus the actor for goemon & fujiko are finee af oml). The film also tells a new story, so it’s not just Lupin, & I ended up liking that a lot too.

thoughts:
Monkey Punch is undoubtedly a bad person for some of the things put in this Manga, time period aside. Things got better as the Volumes went on & granted there’s some parts that gave me a good chuckle but still other things were nauseating. I think u can enjoy his iconic style & story telling as well as acknowledge the timeless effect he’s had on his creation w/out excusing some “jokes”, scenes, & chapters. So that’s what I’m gonna do!
conclusion:
I plan to go back through & compile some of my favorite chapters but favorite or not they’ll all likely include adult themes (as this is an adult manga). Oh & if anyone knows any other translated Lupin Manga let me know!
Just remember: a LOT of the…more offensive stuff in the manga is from the TokyoPop translations. I’m not excusing ALL of it, mind you — it was the 1960s and this was an adventure/spy manga marketed at cisdudes, after all — but the script writer for the English version was extremely, uh, artistic, with his localization of the translation.
If you’re looking for the rest of Shin Lupin, which TokyoPop never finished, and some slightly more literal translations? There’s a scanlator called Oranges who’s currently translating Monkey Punch’s work over on MangaDex!
I did not know that! I read the manga on Mangelo and it did use Oranges translations but only from around volume 13-14? but I never even thought to think of the translators being at fault too.
