I keep thinking about how SW treats “jedi” as the ultimate power for good. Rey has to be a jedi, Leia had to be a jedi, and Finn has to be force sensitive so that he can eventually become a jedi. “Gray” characters like Han can have a shady past, but the narrative uses this to signal to the audience that they wouldn’t ever make him a jedi. We never expect Han to be able to use the force. Same with Poe, to some extent.
Idk about you, but idolizing of the Jedi kinda makes me side-eye. The idea that only truly good and blameless people - whose faults are not even their own but passed down by family - can use an ultimate force for good…I don’t know. I’m probably reading too much into it. But I think that’s why I liked Kylo/Ben’s character and Rey Nobody. Because they both challenged that notion in their own way.
update: i woke up and was still sad about the rise of skywalker

Before y’all @ me, I really only started getting into Reylo like a week or two ago. I only saw the first movie Disney put out and while I liked it, I lost interest and I’m kinda glad I did. I sensed the dynamic and chemistry between Kylo (Ben) and Rey in the first movie right away and knew something had to come from it. They had such a season 1 Zutara feel to them but I didn’t get my hopes up and just kinda brushed it off. Yet, I heard from YouTube what happened at the end of the final movie of the series and I’m really glad I didn’t get into it because canon is NOT worth what happened in the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Rant time! Turn away now if you don’t want to hear it (and spoilers but it’s probably already too late for that)
Ben Solo did NOT deserve to die.
The poor dude had been manipulated and lied to HIS ENTIRE LIFE, his family scared of him – his own uncle tries to kill him while he’s sleeping because of it and his whole family abandons him when he needs them the most. His life was SO fucked up and finally, he meets Rey, someone who he can relate to, a Dyad, essentially two halves to the same whole. Despite being the enemy, Rey doesn’t give up on him, even heals him of a mortal wound.
When he FINALLY chooses the right side to fight on, saving Rey’s life by giving her his own life force, she wakes up in his arms. Smiling at him, saying his real name and it seems they can finally be together. Ben has a few seconds of bliss when she finally kisses him and he smiles so fucking beautifully (probably for the first time in his LIFE)….and then what happens?
He gets yeeted.
…Like….WTF!?
This is DISNEY, what happened to the happily ever after? What? He didn’t deserve it because he spent too long being the villain even if he was redeemed in the end? Damn, what a fucking COPOUT. He should have lived and atoned for his crimes, showcasing he changed and he is GOOD instead of just killing him off to tie off a bunch of loose ends. He deserved to be happy regardless of how much he had to fight for his right to atone for his crimes; to eventually have a family with Rey and her to find the family she always needed in him.
Yet at the end, she’s alone yet again where she started. Would it have been so hard to have him live, they get married and she could ACTUALLY become an actual Skywalker instead of just her just calling herself one? Like, come on!
Ben Solo deserved better, dammit!
Alright. Rant over. XD Sorry about that lol.
Anyhow, I just wanted to contribute a little something to this fandom. I doubt I’ll do more but don’t be surprised if I do. I’m having too many feels over this. XD
I’ll just go read more Reylo Fix-It fanfictions to make myself feel better.
