All three of my Phalaenopsis orchids are in bloom at the same time! The veiny one is a rebloom off

All three of my Phalaenopsis orchids are in bloom at the same time!

The veiny one is a rebloom off the original flower spike (the stem stayed green after the first flowers fell). The dark pink one is a new flower spike off my first orchid. And the white spotted one is the original spike it had when I got it.

I finally cleared off and organized my vanity counter, added a wall shelf next to it, and got all the plants organized in this area of my room. My Money Tree is positioned in the best possible place where it gives shade to the orchids (one of them randomly got sunburnt!! Owch!) But the vibes right here are soooo tropical and I love it. My Zygopetalum orchid’s flower spike died, but I already see some new growth coming in since I repotted it (I’m suuuper excited for more Zygo flowers bc they smell so good.)

((Also, the dark pink orchid opened up this morning, and I’m soooo relieved it’s not the same colour as the veiny one - when I bought the veiny one, I forgot what colour the dark one was. So now I have 3 different kinds that all match! Phew!!))

Juicy poinsettias… forbidden grapes… forbidden honey… forbidden cheeto dust&hel

Juicy poinsettias… forbidden grapes… forbidden honey… forbidden cheeto dust… smh.

The seeds on my salmon poinsettia were falling off, so I picked the loose ones before they get my window sill all sticky. Apparently once they are all brown and dried out, the seeds inside these seed pods will be ready for planting. I have no idea what they will look like inside there lol, but I’m excited nonetheless. The smell of this poinsettia is something like the smell of dark chocolate, so it was very tempting to lick the pollen and juice off my fingers. (But I didn’t!)

Also it looks like my red poinsettia is making a new bloom!! So late in the season!! Idk what to do! I was going to repot them into their larger pots, but if it’s about to flower maybe I should wait it out… my room never has seasons anyway, I always keep it as warm as I can, so I’m wondering if this will mess with the poinsettias’ annual cycles… They require pure darkness in the evening in fall, but if the temperature is wrong, idk if I will get them to bloom again properly… (I was kinda using them as a test run for when I plant another green plant that requires special dark hours as well but maybe I’m better off planting those ones outside.)

Anyway, once the pink one is done with growing the last seed pods, I will repot that one, and probably the red one at the same time. I have the pots and plant stands all ready for ‘em, I’m just impatiently waiting for the seeds. (And also hoping I can get some of the seeds to acclimate to our outdoors weather!)
❤❤

Baby’s first African Violet!!

I’ve never seen a variegated one before, so when I saw this in the grocery store, I had to get it. Finally just repotted it into its permanent hone - it’s a special pot designed for African Violets. There are 2 pots, the round one homds water, and the wavy one holds the flower. The wavy one is unglazed on the inside, so it will wick moisture into the soul without water ever touching the hydro-phobic plant. ((How do they ever grow in the wild if water on their leaves kills them?!?!?! I’m too scared to test it out on my first baby.))

The soil is leftover monstera mix I made, and then some good water control Miracle-gro soil. I left the root ball mostly in place - usually I tear up all the old soil, but I’m trying to be so careful with this. I always remember being told as a kid that these will die if you touch them (same with orchids - it was actually just my family trying to keep my kid-hands off the plants lol! Turns out orchids are super hardy to the touch, and these can handle a touch as well.) The leaves are sooo fuzzy!

HAPPY MONDAY! My gorgeous Othonna Capensis (ruby necklace) is starting to bloom! This succulent is marvelous. Why?

1) their color changes depending on the amount of light they get.

2) Super easy to propagate. Clip and stick in soil.

3) The flowers are super cute!

4) Super easy to care for.

Do you grow one? Share any tips

Questions? Ask them away!

Crassula perfoliata var. falcata (Propeller plant)

Such a stunning succulent! The flowers are just out of this world, not just the bright colors, but the texture and shape.

Do you grow this baby?

As with many succulents, they like lots of sun and love to let their soil dry in between watering sessions. Mine are potted on the ground and get full sun and foggy mornings & evenings.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I planted these bougainvilleas when my stepdad and dad passed away.

I live on the central coast of California, and it gets foggy and it is a bit more chilly. And even though bougainvilleas love lots of sun, they are growing and look at all the blooms! Makes me so happy!

If you’ve lost someone, get a plant in their name. Make a commitment to take care of it and grow it. Doing so has helped me so damn much!

The plan is to grow the bougainvilleas and make a wall. On the bottom, I’m going black berries and making them fall down the container.

Mixc World Spring Festival

Victo Ngai

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

This is the third and last of the Mixc World collaboration trilogy. The main concept behind the Mixc World Spring Festival image is the celebration of a new spring and the sharing of good fortune.

There has been a long tradition of emphasizing “Luck” when it comes to Chinese Spring Festival, from new year’s greetings to propitious decorations, to lucky dishes, these auspicious gestures are believed to bring about good fortune in the year to come. In this image, we see many gathered in a field of lucky flowers such as peonies, narcissus and peach blossoms, while Mixc Elephant is showering everyone with fireworks, gems tones and stars, representing luck, fortune and knowledge respectively.

As 2018 is the year of the dog, dogs are well represented in this image. In fact there are a total of 18 of them, as “eighteen” sounds like “sure fortune” in Chinese. Can you find them all?

Many thanks to my creative team at KAI.
