.Nailvengers Assemble | Glitter Placement.

Last year at the Cosmo Blog Awards i teamed up with a few of my favourite nail bloggers (One Nail To Rule Them All, The Nailasaurus, Lucy’s Stash and Brit Nails) for the evening and we had such a great time together we decided to create a nail art challenge this year painting different nail designs each month around a certain theme - we are The Nailvengers!

I missed last month’s challenge as i was sunning myself in Spain but this month the theme is ‘Glitter Placement’ so i’ve created this shiny and summery pastel manicure!

It looks really time consuming but i actually really enjoy glitter placement and once you get on a roll it takes no time at all. I used Barry M’s Coconut WhiteandRose Hip Pink for the base before placing my Glitter pieces and studs (both from bornprettystore) into a wet layer of clear polish using a dotting tool. Finish with a good coat of Seche Vite and you’re all done!

So a while back I did these spray marble nails and I had a chance to use my Liquid Glue from Born Pretty Store to make the process a ton easier. If you aren’t familiar with liquid tape, you paint it around your cuticles when doing designs that can get particularly messy (water marbling, sponge ombre, etc) and it allows you to peel it right off when you are done, leaving the cuticles clean instead of having to sit and clean them up with polish remover and potentially risk messing up your nails. Genius, right? This was the perfect product for the job and left me with almost no clean up! It dries pretty quickly and comes off very easily. I used to just use white elmer’s glue for this same purpose, but having it in a polish-style bottle with a brush makes is SO much easier to apply. Overall, if you are someone who does designs that run onto the cuticles often, this is a MUST for you!

I’ve been wanting to use star shaped sequins for a while and was so excited to finally get these Star Nail Sequins (in selection “colorful”) from @bornprettystore-blog. They are pretty standard, the pot comes stock full of the sequins. The pot contains two sizes of stars in red, gold, silver, purple, and blue. I loved that there was variation in the size in this package as it just gives you more options. At first, I thought the colors left something to be desired (although I did love that you get gold and silver as well as the colored ones in this pot). The photo on the bornpretty site shows a far greater variety of colors included in this “colorful” pack (it looks like there are also green, orange, and pink sequins in their photos). This could just be a result of lighting in the photos, but definitely be aware of that if you are looking to buy these. After using these on my nail I came to like the colors a lot more as the different way the light hits them really makes them look less like basic primary colors. So overall I’m happy with these.
I tend to not love the feel of having 3d studs and rhinestones on my nails, despite how much I love the look of them. Since I don’t do gel/acrylic nails, these items tend to just be a constant worry for me. This is why I prefer sequins. These sequins do stick up a bit on the edges since they have points and such, but I have to imagine that if I pressed them into the top coat and used a thicker coat to seal them in that this would be less of an issue.

Overall, I am quite a fan of these sequins and I can’t wait to keep using them.

This week I got to review these super fun Water Decals (Item ID #37996) from @bornprettystore-blog and I was such a fan! I have used other water decals from Born Pretty Store before and absolutely loved them (see the review here), and honestly these were even easier to use than before!

The basic process for using these was the same (cut out the shape, submerge in water for a few seconds, separate the decal, and apply to the nails) but these separated SO easily and only needed to be submerged in the water for about 5-10 seconds. I skipped the step when it tells you to damped your nail before you apply the decal as I find it makes the surface too slippery, and it still worked just fine.

The decals, like most others, are not entirely opaque (meaning they are somewhat transparent). This is very very minor though, as you can barely even see the gingham print through them even though it is a harsh pattern using dark and contrasting shades. I found this to be a strong point of these decals.

The photo of the product you see to the right is the entire product minus the packaging (you receive one sheet of the decals per package). This sheet gives you a good variety of images while still remaining consistent and taking some of the guess work out of trying to figure out which ones go together that you may get in a more varied pack of decals. I was a bit surprised that this was all you got, seeing as the past order of decals I received seemed to have much more in quantity and variety, but this sheet is exactly what was advertised (I think I had just embellished my expectations in my mind). I was really happy with the size of the decals as well! They weren’t too big that they wouldn’t fit on the nail, but not so small that you had to struggle with them. If I have enough left over, I would love to see how these look used in a collage-type look if I used a bunch of them to fill the nail entirely.
