It’s done! My 2020 project ❤️
Okay I admit, the hat is still missing and I want to add some boning to the jacket. I might do another petticoat and a proper corset (right now I’m wearing bra+ underbust
BUT it is wearable and it’s the thing that took the most time to finish. Normally I rush things because I want something new for an upcoming event. This time I just wanted to do a bustle dress. (And I have no clue where to wear it ) I did a lot of handsewing and tried to make sure that there are no visible machine seams on the outside.
Historical accuracy was not my goal, but I had 1880s in mind as inspiration and if I can trust my limited knowledge I’d say it’s at least historical adequate Opinions?

WiP of my bustle dress gown. Made a mock-up of the bustle/apron and I think it’s too long. It’s Truly Victorians 365. I have to admit that I absolutely don’t understand the instructions for the plaket, I just use my own
For the final version, I’ll use the same blue/grey fabric I used at the jacket and maybe I’ll add some more of the lace I got from @finefrenchlaces (see last picture). I will shorten it in the front and back a bit to have more freedom when walking and to allow the underskirt to flounce a bit more
For now, I’m glad the skirt with all the pleats is finished.

Silhouette - Does my butt look big in this? - GOOD!
There’s a special kind of elegance about bustle dresses. We often look at past fashions wondering: why the tell did they dress like this? And I’m honestly looking forward to find out at what we’re gonna look the same way when it comes to today’s fashion. (My best guess at the moment are eyebrows and bare ankles during winter)

May I present: my 2020 project in all its glory ❤️
This has been my biggest project to date or at least the most time consuming one.
Being mainly a steampunk, historical accuracy was not my goal, but rather make it historical “agreeable” or historical “adequate” if there’s such a term. My main inspiration were 1880s.
Any suggestions for accessories?
Patterns used:
Hat - Butterick - Making History B6397
Jacket - Burda 7880 (highly modified front part and sleeves)
Underskirt - Truly Victorian TV261 - 1185 Four-Gore Underskirt
Apron and Bustle - Truly Victorian TV365 - 1883 August Overskirt
Corset - @cosplaymccalls Shapeshifter by @anachronisminaction
The corset is just an underbust paired with a bra because I currently don’t have an alternative, but making one is on my list.
The bustle underskirt was bought from a theatre sale but is very similar to Truly Victorian TV108 - Grand Bustle.
Trimmings by @finefrenchlaces who happened to have the perfect shade of greyish blue.

Afternoon Dress | c. 1883⠀

This dress was conceived as the second bustle period was beginning to emerge. The very brief époque between 1880-1884 created some awkward silhouettes as the curaiss bodice was still very much worn while the bustle was burgeoning on the back. Sometimes creating what can only be described as low, lusciously fabricated lumps that didn’t flatter. This sumptuous, aubergine example is definitely an instance where the proportions of the conflicting designs came to fruition in harmony. ⠀

Another UFO ✂️ I made a cage bustle several years ago; cut out, but never finished this matching natural form companion for the slimmer 1880’s styles.
