Next morning, I popped this small Chicken Pie into the oven to reheat while I poured myself the less sweet milk tea mum bought for me. Like it bigger cousin, this single person serving of pie also comes with half a hard boiled egg along with the flavourful potato and chicken meats.
Sis bought home a big and a small Chicken PiefromChicken Pie Kitchen (formerly Don’s Pie & Cake). With a new operating location and a rebranded name, the price of their chicken pies had gone up too. The personal sized one now cost S$6.30, up from S$5 while the large pie was S$24 but is now selling at S$28.80.
As seen from the photo, there are six humps on the top crust of the large Chicken Pie. These are the six halves of hard boiled eggs which also marked how you would slice it up. Inside it are creamy and chunky potato with cubes of flavourful tender chicken meat all enclosed in a crispy and buttery pastry shell.
As I sat down one fine morning sipping my less sweet Milk Tea and munching on the Pecan Demerera Shortbread cookies given to me as part of the goodies bag for my 20 years long service award. I reminisce the years I spent with the company through good times and bad times and more recently, the pandemic. Time do flies…
A more colourful expression of the original flavour Kueh Lapis Legit(印尼千层蛋糕)shownhere. This thousand layer cake from Swee Heng 1989 Signature cost just S$1.50 for two pieces. But there is a caveat, the more expensive Kueh Lapis Legit contained more butter in their batter but this cheap version don’t. So it lacked the characteristic buttery fragrant from their more expensive competitors which is the signature of this type of cake. Paired it off with a cup of less sweet milk tea with a sachet of ginger powder added.
How did I never know how delicious “real” butter pecan ice cream is!!! Butter, sugar, cream, so much sweetness I can’t explain it… so soft and creamy in your mouth… you can feel the fat and sugar absorbing right into your body but YOU DON’T EVEN CARE not even a little bit…
