From where I stood backstage I could hear the crowd of Supernatural fans burst into laughter over the story Jensen was telling them about that involved our four year old son tumbling off his bike down the little hill at the park near our house. I didn’t have to pull the curtain to see his reactions as there was a monitor back here and judging by the grin on his face I could tell what was coming next.

“So now Miles is at the bottom of the hill quiet as a lamb and I kid you not, this was Y/N’s reaction. OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD, MILES!” Jensen was now out of his seat mimicking the way I chased after Miles that day which only sent the crowd into another fit of laughter.

“Oh hell no, can I have a mic?”

The thing is neither Jensen nor Jared knew that I hopped on a flight to come to their con in Vancouver so me stepping on stage is bound to take them both by surprise. The assistant handed me a microphone and I climbed the steps to the stage. The crowd cheered even more when I came into their line of sight.

“Meanwhile this was Jensen, HE’S GOT HIS HELMET ON HE’S FINE!” I tried to drop my voice to mimic him and he immediately turned to look at me with such disbelief written on his face.

“Y/N!” Jared pushed Jensen out of the way on his way over to me; the tall beast picked me up with his arms wrapped around me in a bone crushing hug, if nobody that knew a thing about us they’d swear that the moose was my husband with his enthusiasm.

“I haven’t seen my beautiful wife in two weeks and you pushed me out of the way to get to her first. Put her down now!” Jared turned to look at him and from the monitor on this side of the stage I could see Jared sticking his tongue out at his friend refusing to put me down just yet.

“I haven’t seen her in three weeks so shh.” Since my arms were squished to my sides I couldn’t do anything more than stick my face into the crook of his neck which had the fans cooing at the sight.

“I missed you too Jared, now put me down, the air is thin up here.” Finally giving in, Jared placed my feet back onto the ground and steadied me only for my husband to do the same thing but this time I wrapped my legs around his waist and my hands immediately found their place in his grown out hair.

“Hi handsome.”

“Hi beautiful lady, this is a nice surprise.” Jensen took a couple steps back to where his stool is and the way that he did it so effortlessly too had the crowd whistling suggestively. Once I was seated Jensen brought his mic up to his mouth.

“Get your minds out of the gutter.” Although he used his dad voice, his face was saying the complete opposite, happy with the fact that his fans now had a memory that they’re never going to forget.

“Where’s my kid?”

“He’s napping in one of the rooms backstage, where are my manners? Hi everyone, how are we doing tonight?” The fans cheered once more and I took that as a good sign. Jensen nudged my legs open so that he could stand between them with his back to me and just as if we were home, I didn’t hesitate to rake my fingers up his back and through his hair. By the look on Jensen’s face, the fans could tell how much he had missed my touch and if we’re being honest, I missed having him around too.

“Look at him, he’s like a puppy.” Jared shouldn’t be the one to talk when he himself is a sucker for head scratches.

“Says the actual puppy.”

“You know Jay I’ve gotta say, you do look extra handsome today. Dark colours really look good on you.” The olive green shirt and his black jeans was an excellent pairing.

“Thanks darlin and you look gorgeous as always. Alright, back to why we’re really here. See, my wife shows up here and threw me off, we were taking questions. Who’s the next lucky person?” Jared squinted his eyes to search the crowd until his eyes landed on the Castiel cosplayer.

“You in the trench coat, let us haveth thy question.”

“Uh hi, my name’s Sara and my question isn’t about the show but it’s for the Ackles.” A woman’s voice filled the auditorium and by her tone I could guess what her question was going to be.

“Shoot.”

“What is one thing that you both love that your son does and do you guys plan on having another one?” Jensen dramatically leaned back on me at the second part to her question, he hadn’t voiced his opinion on having another kid running around the house so this should be fun.

“Miles is a mama’s boy and every night he makes sure that Y/N is the one who feeds him his dinner, gives him his bath and cuddles with him until he falls asleep and from my point of view I adore their bond, I think it’s amazing.”

“Miles is at the age now where you know, kids mimic what they see and his new thing is wearing daddy’s hat backwards and he’d get me to fill his sippy cup with juice or water so that he could join Jensen on the couch to watch whatever he’s watching on tv.”

“I actually saw the photo you had posted on Instagram about that and I thought that it was cute, he’s Jensen’s mini-me.”

“Definitely and about baby number two, Y/N and I haven’t discussed it but I’m sure if it does happen we’ll both be over the moon about it.”

I didn’t fly all the way from Texas to Vancouver, Canada to just see Jensen, I came because I had something important to tell him and this lovely lady set it up so nicely for me to break the news.

“You know I’m so glad you said that Jay because we’ve got give or take six months left of being a family of three.” Jensen didn’t fully process my words until the crowd went insane at my announcement. He immediately turned around to face me, shocked by what I said.

“What? You- shut up!”

“Surprise!” He cupped my face in his hands before planting a celebratory kiss on my lips.

“When did you find out?”

“Yesterday and I hopped on a flight first thing this morning to come tell you.” Jared bounded over to wrap his arms around Jensen.

“Congratulations you two!”

“Thank you Jared.”

I didn’t want to take up anymore time on their stage so I quickly kissed Jensen’s cheek and told him that I’ll see him afterwards. I waved to everyone in the crowd on my way off the stage and passed the mic back to the assistant.

For the rest of the panel, the boys messed around on stage and Jensen got a whole lot of congratulations on our growing baby inside of me. Coming closer to the end Miles woke up from his nap and Jay called out for me to rejoin them on stage.

“Daddy!” Miles stretched for his father and Jensen immediately took him from me, happy to finally have his son back in his arms. The band played music to close off the event and some of the other cast members came out on stage to join the fun. With Miles on his hip, Jensen pulled me into his side to kiss me once more in the midst of all that’s going on around us.

Although we hadn’t planned for another one, I have no doubt in my mind that he or she is going to be loved unconditionally by us and by extension, the Supernatural family.

The wrap party for the long-running show Supernatural was in full swing, music playing in the background of the room filled with production crew and the main stars of the show.

Y/N took the beer bottle from Jensen’s grasp and thanked him for the beverage. If it was completely up to her she would’ve stayed at home but she knew how much tonight meant to her boyfriend and she didn’t want to let him down tonight by not attending the wrap party for the show.

“You’re pretty quiet tonight, everything alright?” Jensen’s breath fanned against her ear and he spoke for only her to hear him. Usually Y/N would be the life of the party, joining him and Jared for a round of shots but tonight she opted to keep her distance from the crowd, especially his ex-wife Danneel.

“Everything’s fine J don’t worry about me.” Y/N tried her best to reassure him that nothing was wrong but they both knew that something was definitely off.

“Y/N! How nice to finally see you crawled out of your hole to join us.” Jared wrapped her up in one of his bear hugs with Genevieve and the redhead beside him. Genevieve pried him off of her to give her a hug as well while Danneel merely gave her a once over over the rim of her glass.

“It’s nice to see you as well, how are the kiddos?”

“They’re great, Odette is growing up so fast.”

“And Danneel, how are you?” Y/N always tried to be civil whenever they were in the same room but the red head never cared much about Jensen’s new and younger lover.

“Clearly better than you, when was the last time you looked in a mirror?” Genevieve and Jared both shared the same look, the taller one in the group nudged his friend to speak up but he chose to stay out of it hoping that she would stop.

“Right before I left home actually.”

“And you still left the house looking like that, damn Jensen, you could’ve upgraded at least.” Jensen remained tight-lipped which angered Y/N even further. Pleased with herself, the red head left the four of them behind, making her way through the mass of bodies in the room.

“Don’t take her on Y/N, she’s just had too much to drink tonight, I’m sure she didn’t mean anything by it.” Genevieve gave her arm a gentle squeeze, Jared on the other hand dragged his friend away to talk some sense into him.

“No Gen, that’s how she’s always been towards me since Jensen introduced me into the kid’s lives. I try to be civil at least enough for their kids but she makes it so damn hard and Jensen- you know what, I think I’m calling it a night.” Genevieve knew there was no use in trying to stop her friend from leaving, she was pissed off and the fact that Jensen didn’t tell his ex-wife to back off only added fuel to the raging fire.

“How are you gonna get home?”

“I’ll get an Uber, I’d he asks for me kindly tell him to fuck off. Goodnight Gen, you guys have fun, I’m not staying to ruin anyone’s night.” Y/N downed her beer and left the empty bottle on the nearest table on her way out.

Danneel couldn’t help but smile, watching on as Y/N stormed out and got into an Uber. There was nothing wrong about the girl that her kids called “Mommy number two” other than the fact that she now had Jensen and she hated that.

The red head sauntered over to the trio who were deep in a conversation; one that Jensen wasn’t pleased with having out in the open. His green eyes found the conniving woman and his scowl deepened further. Jared and Genevieve threw glares at her as they left them to talk.

“You are unbelievable Danneel, all she’s been trying to do was be cordial but for whatever reason yet again, you’ve been nothing but a bitch with your constant jabs at her.” Jensen has had more than enough of the red head to last him a lifetime, the only reason he still considers her someone important in his life is the kids that they created together.

“Oh please J, you know you could do much better. Maybe even coming back to me, we could pick things up right where we left off. Admit it J, you still love me.” Jensen tensed up beneath her hold on his bicep, pulling herself closer to him.

“You’ve officially lost all sense, there’s nothing there Danneel.”

“Oh it’s there J that’s a lot of years, memories to just walk away from.”

“Yeah, well I wasn’t the one that walked first.” With that said, Jensen left her standing there, making his way through the crowd. His green eyes scanned the mass of bodies for his girlfriend but she was nowhere to be seen.

“Gen have you seen Y/N?”

“She left and don’t you even think about going after her so soon. She’s upset and you rushing home to get to her would be a stupid decision, give her time to cool off properly otherwise you’d be sleeping on the patio.” As much as he hated to admit it, she was right.

While Jensen grabbed himself a bottle of water, Y/N’s Uber was pulling up to the curb of their home. She paid the young man and got out.

"Thanks, have a goodnight.”

She shut the car door and made her way up to the front door of her shared house with Jensen. She was still pissed off about the way Danneel made it her business to be rude to her; hopefully Jensen doesn’t come home anytime soon because he would get an earful from her.

She decided to take a shower that was needed now more than ever to wash away her anger. Hopefully Genevieve and Jared kept Jensen busy until they decided that it was all clear for him to leave the party to get to her. Once she was finished, she got out and dried her skin before pulling up her underwear and slipping on one of her big t-shirts.

Her phone kept buzzing on the nightstand with Jensen’s face and caller ID lighting up the screen. She watched it ring until I went to voice-mail.

“Damnit Y/N.” Jensen’s frown deepened as he tapped on her contact to send her a message instead; all he wanted to know was that she’s fine.

Hey angel, did you get home okay? I’m losing my mind here. Could you please let me know.

Her phone pinged signalling his text and her only response was the emoji thumbs up. She didn’t want to talk to him right now but she also didn’t want him to worry about her safety. Jensen, however, wanted more than a thumbs up reaction to his message. He made his final rounds around the room and left the wrap party. Y/N has had more than enough time to relax.

Speaking of which, Y/N was now sprawled out on the couch flicking through the cable channels, CW had reruns of Supernatural and the last thing she wanted to see was Danneel sharing the screen with J2. She kept changing the channel until she finally settled on a home renovation show. Her phone screen lit up yet again but this time it was JJ trying to FaceTime.

“Hiya sweetpea.”

“Hi!” The little girl smiled brightly at her, Arrow and Zepplin were standing behind her on their mother’s couch with their hands in their older sister’s hair.

“What are you three doing up, it’s late.”

“Couldn’t sleep and our sitter doesn’t mind that we’re up. Aren’t you supposed to be with dad?” In the background Zepplin reached over to Arrow and grabbed a handful of her hair to pull her head towards him.

“I was but then I had to leave early. Zep don’t yank Arrow’s hair, baby boy.” The five year old listened to her and untangled his tiny hands from Arrow’s locks.

“What do you say?”

“Sorry sissy.” The little boy kissed his sister’s cheek and she pushed away, still upset that he pulled her hair.

“Is dad home? I tried calling him but it went straight to voicemail.” The Ackles offspring had impeccable timing because as soon as the words left her mouth, the front door opened and the man in question walked in.

“He is now.”

“Can I talk to him?” Y/N pushed up to her feet and passed him the phone on her way to the kitchen; she didn’t stick around to listen to his conversation with the kids. Jensen shifted his focus from his pissed off lady to his kids that were excited to see him. They told him how their day was and what movie they’re watching, the regular stuff kids that age always got excited to tell their parents about. JJ could tell that there was more going on between her dad and Y/N as he didn’t greet her the way he usually did with a kiss to her cheek or forehead; they were fighting.

“Dad are you and Y/N fighting?” Jensen merely scoffed at his daughter’s excellent observation skills. With her arms crossed and eyebrows lifted, the eight year old waited for him to say something but he didn’t.

“If you are, you need to make it better before we get there tomorrow afternoon.”

“Alright, alright missy. You and your siblings should get some sleep, I love you J bird. Goodnight rascals.” The call ended and he placed the device on the coffee table; time to attempt to talk to Y/N who busied herself with washing the dishes in the sink.

“Darlin’.”

No answer. Jensen closed the distance between them by moving to wrap his arms around her stomach, knowing how much she loved when he did that.

“I’m sorry, I should’ve said something.”

“Why, it’s not the first time you’ve let that shit slide Ackles so why apologise now?” Y/N tried to get out of his hold but that only made him hold onto her tighter.

“Let me go Jensen.”

“No, you’re going to stay right here and listen to me.” His beard burned against the shell of her ear.

“You’re right, I did let her get away with a lot but tonight was the final straw. I called her out for it afterwards and I know that me saying this might not even mean shit to you but I did.”

“Only took you sixteen months but hey, you said something. I’m serious Jensen, let me go.” Defeated, he did as told and she gladly took several steps away from him.

“Did she at least tell you why she’s been bitching at me every single chance she had?” Y/N wasn’t a stupid woman, she knew the redhead still had feelings for him but she wanted to hear the words leave his mouth.

“She still has feelings for me apparently.”

“What about you, do you still have feelings for her?”

“No, hell no. I closed that door the minute I signed those divorce papers. The only woman that I love is standing in this room.” Rolling her eyes, Y/N spun on her heels to leave the kitchen.

“You would’ve put a stop to it sooner if that was true. I’m sleeping in the guest room tonight.” Jensen followed after her all the way up the stairs to the guest room at the end of the hallway but he was a second too slow to stop the door from closing in. The lock clicked and he sighed, knocking against the wood.

“Baby please, open the door.” Y/N leaned against the door instead of letting him in.

“You’re right, the first time it happened I should’ve nipped it in the bud but instead I let it drag on for far too long and that must’ve given you the impression that I still have feelings for her but I promise you that I don’t. If it wasn’t for JJ, Arrow and Zepplin I wouldn’t have any sort of connection to her but we do have the kids Y/N and they adore you just as much as I do.” Y/N felt her anger slowly slipping away and she hated the fact that he couldn’t leave her to be angry.

“You can be mad at me all you want tomorrow baby but let’s not go to bed like this.” She caved and unlocked the door. Jensen let himself in and immediately pulled her flush against him, wrapping his arms around her and she caressed the back of his head.

“I love you darlin’.”

“You couldn’t let me be mad at you for once.”

“Nope.” Jensen hoisted her up into his arms and she instinctively secured her legs around him.

“What are you doing?”

“You’re not sleeping in here and I have some making up to do.” Jensen carried her over to their room with a cheeky smile on his face. Y/N squealed as he dropped her on the bed and he wasted no time in caging her beneath him.

“What are you waiting for?”

You could hear the hustle and bustle of the many bodies that took up the large conference room before you even made it to the door. So many people talking and laughing, and you knew that your fake smile and laugh would be joining them soon.

With a squeeze of his arm, Dean had you looking up at him. He shot you a wink and started pulling you into the room without you saying if you were ready or not. He knew you weren’t, and he knew you may never be, so he was jumping into the shark tank head first while pulling you along with him.

A lot of the people you could see right off the bat were just distant aunts, uncles and cousins. People you really didn’t talk to, even at these things. They kept to their own circle while you tried to avoid yours. Out of everyone in that room there were only a few that you knew you would see this week, because it was the same few that you see every time.

Of course, there was your mom. The queen of it all and the one you wished you could hide from the most. There was your step dad that you adored. He definitely related to you more than anyone else there and you actually looked forward to seeing him every time these things came around.

Then there was your cousin, Jackie. She was your best friend and the one you could turn to about anything, includingfamily. She never ratted you out and you two were like your own little circle within a circle.

But then that brought you to your aunt Tanya and her daughter Hannah. They were set on a peg just below your mom. They were rich bitches and they always gloated. It was sickening. You honestly didn’t know which was worse sometimes, your mom or those two. If you could just avoid all three, that’d be great.

The further the two of you moved into the room, the more you felt your heart rate rise. The quartz floors sparkled as you stepped across it and the noise from the rest of the family was making you feel so small because you already knew how they saw you. Then you imagined your mom walking up to the two of you, and that just made everything crumble.

“Dean, wait.” you locked your arm in place, bringing him to a stop.

“What?” he asks as you just stand there, your eyes scanning the full room. He can see the panic in your face, your cheeks flushing.

“I can’t do this.” you finally whisper, your body turning to face him as your eyes struggle to look away from the reunion of people.

“Y/N…”

“I can’t!” you quietly cry out so that no one else notices that you’re there yet. “They’ll see right through this. My mom will see right through this and it’ll be a disaster. They are so judgmental and I just…I can’t…” Before you can even register what’s going on, Dean has pulled you a little closer and attached his lips to yours. Then his free hand meets the side of your face before he pulls away and you can do nothing but just stare at him.

“Let them judge.” A shaky breath finally leaves you and yet you can still feel his lips on yours. Like an aftershock that just won’t quit. “I need you to trust me, Y/N. Because if you don’t, you’re right, it won’t work.”

“Y/N!?” You hear your name being called from across the room before you can even begin to pull yourself back from that kiss let alone tell Dean that you trust him. Or at least tell him that you’re trying to.

“Y/N! Oh my God!” You turn just as your cousin Jackie runs up to you, an empty glass in her hand as she goes to swing her arms around you. “I’m so glad you’re here!” she squeezes you tight before pulling away, her arms still wrapped around you. “I thought you said you weren’t coming this time?”

“No. I said I mightnot be coming.”

“Oh. Well, I’m so glad you did because I missed you so much!” she cried as she pulled you back into a bone crushing hug. It wasn’t until she pulled away again that she even glanced in Dean’s direction, but once she saw him, she was awestruck.

“And who is this?” she breathes as she finally lets you go and you can’t help but chuckle at her reaction. Her eyes are locked on Dean like he’s the only one in the room and she’s practically drooling over him.

“Jackie, this is Dean. Dean, my cousin, Jackie.” you introduced, your hand gesturing between them while they stepped forward and Dean took her hand.

“It’s nice to meet you.”

“Oh, trust me…the pleasure’s allmine.”

“Jackie!” you scolded quietly, but you didn’t miss the grin on Dean’s face.

“Sorry.” she breathed again; probably the only breathing she was able to do at the moment, then she stepped back, curling the hand that Dean just had in his. “I uh…I need to top off my drink so…I’ll just leave you two alone.” She had to rip her eyes away from your date and when she locked gazes with you, she winked.

“So, that’s Jackie.” Dean states as you both watch your cousin walk away.

“Yeah. She’s great. The only one here other than my dad that I can trust with anything and who doesn’t stab me in the back.”

“Good to know.”

“There’s my princess.” Dean watched your smile grow before you turned away from him again, this time to greet an older gentleman. But the only thing that tipped him off that he was older was the gray in his hair, otherwise he was aging very well.

“Dad.” you seem to sigh in relief as you fall into his embrace.

“How are you, sweet pea?”

“I’m good.” you whisper to him before pulling away, and that’s when the man locked eyes on Dean.

You had told Dean that your step dad was in the army and with his own dad having a similar background, he made sure to stand straight and make eye contact when he looked at him.

“You didn’t tell me that you’ve been seeing someone, Y/N.”

“I know. I’m sorry, dad, it’s just been…”

“Nice to meet you sir.” Dean greets as you struggle to finish your sentence. He leans forward and takes your dad’s hand, giving it a nice firm shake.

“Good to meet you…”

“Dean.”

“Dean.” your dad repeats softly, letting his eyes rake over your date. “Military man?”

“No, sir. But my dad was.”

“Oh yeah? Where was he?”

“Marine Corps. Corporal.”

Nice.” You smile when you see that your dad’s impressed. Not that you thought he wouldn’t be, but he also wasn’t the one to please here. At least, not the only one. “So, how long have you two been together?”

“Just about two months now.” you answer, giving Dean a bit of a break.

“Not too long then.” he says, glancing at you before locking eyes with Dean again. “Very bold of you to show up to a reunion where you’re going to meet her entire family.”

“Yeah, well…” Dean slid his arm around your waist and smiled down at you. “I know she didn’t want to come alone and I just want to make sure she’s happy.” Your dad’s smile grew as he looked between the two of you.

“I’m liking you already.”

“There she is!” The tender moment is interrupted by a familiar high voice, and though you know who it is, you wait until your eyes confirm it.

“Oh god…” you breathe, turning into Dean a bit before your mom’s hands are on your cheeks and she’s placing rough kisses all over your face.

“Oh my girl!” her hands flatten against your cheeks, practically squishing your face. “Hmm.” and here it comes…

The way she tilts her head and looks you over, you know that she’s found something that she can pick fun at. You’re just waiting to hear it.

As her right hand slides down under your chin, she pats your jaw a few times before that infamous disappointed look in her eyes makes its appearance.

“Oh, honey. It looks like you’ve gained a little weight.” You try to hold in your irritation when she lets go of you, but that’s when she sees Dean. This is going to be terrible, is all that you had going through your head. You just wanted to grip onto Dean’s hand and run for the exit.

“Oh…” her eyes rake over your date and though this entire relationship is fake, you still feel this twist in your gut that makes you want to throw up. You couldn’t believe it. Your own mother was checking out your boyfriend. Not that it surprises you, but it still bothers you nonetheless.  “And who are you?”

“Mom…” Turning into Dean’s left side and wrapping your arms around him, he follows your lead and holds you close, his hand visible on your waist. “This is my boyfriend. Dean.” It shouldn’t have surprised you, but it still hit deep when she started to laugh.

You…no. There is no way that you are dating my daughter.” Dean can feel your hand shaking against his side and to calm you, he reaches his right hand over and holds yours firm against his body, keeping his smile as he looks away from you and up to your mother.

“Well, I hate to disappoint you, but I amdating your daughter.” Her eyes slide back and forth between the two of you for a moment before she has to add one more stab.

“Was it on a dare or something?”

Okay. Honey, why don’t we leave these two alone, let them get some food, alright?”

“Okay.” your mom giggles as your dad pulls her away, but she plants her feet at one point to shoot out another bullet. “By the way…Dean. When this doesn’t work out, you know, the two of you…I want you to know that it was reallynice to meet you.” As she sends a wink in your direction, not only is your patience gone, but so is your dad’s.

“Let’s go!” Your dad pushes, kind of giving her a shove in the other direction. After she’s a few steps away, your dad takes a hold of your arm to get your attention.

“Don’t let her get to you.”

“I try.” He pulls on a smile and kisses your cheek before giving Dean a nod.

“I’ll see you two soon.” It didn’t register with you that you were still in Dean’s embrace. Not until his left hand slid up your back.

“Well ain’t she a gem.” When all you do is nod, Dean pulls away a bit and looks down at you. He could see you absorbing everything your mother had said and saw that it was taking you over.

“Hey.” Pulling on your waist, he turns you so that you’re facing only him now and he presses two of his fingers under your chin to get you to look up at him. “You look beautiful.” But his attempt was shot down. You scoffed and rolled your eyes a bit as you tried to look behind you.

“I’m serious.” he pushes, making you look back at him. “You should listen to your dad. Shedoesn’t know what she’s talking about.” You force your eyes to drop from his again, not caring that he wanted you to look at him. You felt stupid and naïve. How could you ever think you could walk into one of these and actually meet the standards of everyone else.

“Why don’t we go grab a drink, huh?” You lift your head a bit, but not enough that it satisfies him. He just knows he’s going to have to work even harder to keep you on his level throughout this week.

“Come on.”

There were a few greetings while Dean led you through the crowd, and like always, you plastered on a smile and squeezed in a few words, but you were dying for that drink. So you made it as short and sweet as you possibly could and kept moving.

Dean was quick to put in your order as you approached the long bar and it still surprised you on how fast he learned your drink.

“So, what happened to your dad?” he asks after the bartender sets your drinks in front of you.

You look away for a minute, spotting your dad across the room and you become slightly confused on what Dean means.

“Nothing?” When Dean notices you glancing at your step dad, he can’t help but chuckle a bit.

No. I mean your actualdad.”

“Oh.” Taking the small black stir stick, you let it roam around your glass for a second before getting up the energy to answer. “He uh…he died. When I was two.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Died doing what he loved from what I hear.” you laugh a bit before taking a sip of your drink. “I honestly don’t even remember him. I have pictures and that’s it, really.” Cradling his beer, Dean gave you a sweet smile before looking around the room. There wasn’t an abundance of people, but it was a pretty full room considering.

“So. We have breakfast tomorrow morning and a big farewell dinner at the end of the week…any other scheduled occasions I should know about?” You smile into your drink, enjoying the strength of the alcohol before bringing it to rest on the bar’s counter.

“Uh…not really. It’s mostly a go about your own business type of thing. You get to go around and do what you want, with who you want and just let the gossip circle around on its own.”

“So, I’m guessing before now, you’ve just been…”

“Stuck with my mom.” you giggle as you take another drink. “Yeah. That and my aunt Tanya and her daughter.”

“I’m guessing they’re just as bad as your mom?”

“Sometimes worse.” you admit quickly. “Tanya…she just…” you scoff lightly as you struggle to find the right words to describe your aunt. “I swear she thinks she’s the queen of this whole room. Her and my mom are the ones who usually set this up and her daughter is just as big headed as her.”

“Are you sure you weren’t adopted? Or…maybe switched at birth or something?” he jokes, but there still seems to be a hint of seriousness in there.

“You seriously have no idea how many times I’ve asked myself that same question.”

“Look who decided to show up!” The familiar voice had you tensing up again, and Dean was definitely beginning to understand why you were so tense on the days leading up to this.

He sees a woman walk up behind you, blonde hair, long and slightly curled with blue eyes and an expensive cocktail dress hugging her body down to her thighs. She had money, there was no doubt about that.

“Hannah.” you greeted with a forced smile. “Looking beautiful as ever.”

“Yeah.” she giggles. One that actually makes Dean cringe a bit on the inside. “And look at you. Dressed up in…” she pauses for a moment and takes a step back, looking you up and down. “…you know…I think I saw that in the Walmart catalog when I was at the dentist office the other day.” she laughs and you fight back the urge to punch her in the face. “It’s cute.” You know she’s lying. Hell, the bartender knows she’s lying.

You can feel Dean step up behind you, pressing himself against your back as his free hand finds your waist and you know he’s trying to give you comfort. Reminding you that he’s right there and that you need to use him to block out the verbal abuse.

“Right.” you breathe, taking in a good breath as you tilt your head up. “Hannah, this is my boyfriend, Dean.” Her eyes do the same thing your moms did. There’s a shock, but then they’re instantly eating him up and you can practically see her brain working on ways to steal him from you.

“Wow. Well, aren’t you just a big piece of eye candy.”

“Here you go, pumpkin.” Dean’s eyes avert from your cousins as a man walks up behind her, handing her a drink.

“Thanks.” she whispers to him before turning back to you and Dean, a cocky smile on her face as she looks from Dean to you. “You remember Josh, right Y/N?” You meet Josh’s gaze for a moment before turning a bit in Dean’s body.

“Hey, Y/N.” Josh greets with an almost too stiff expression.

“Hey.” you greet back, letting Dean’s body stop you from running for the door.

“Josh used to be Y/N’s boyfriend way back when.” Hannah spits out with a large grin as she locks eyes with Dean. “Don’t worry. You’ll come to your senses too. Just give it time.”

Not taking another word, you set your glass down on the bar and slip out of Dean’s embrace. He looks over his shoulder as he watches you moving quickly through the crowd, heading for the wall of large floor to ceiling windows and glass doors.

“Hmm. Typical.” Dean hears your cousin scoff out and he sends her a bit of a glare before following your same path.

He hated to admit that you were right. He didn’t take you as seriously as he should have when you talked about your family, but he was here now and to be honest, he was grateful he was. No one deserved to be treated this way. He honestly wasn’t sure why you even made the trip every time it came up. But of course your mom would probably just come and hunt you down if you didn’t show. It was clear that everyone saw you in the same light. Everyone but your step dad and your cousin Jackie. Again, just like you said.

As he reached the doors and stepped out into the warm evening air, it didn’t take him long to look down the way and see you leaning against the metal railing. He weaved through a few rows of tables before coming up alongside you.

“You sure you’re not regretting coming with me?” He grinned a bit before leaning on the rail next to you.

“Meh. But it’d be kind of fucked up to leave you right now.” You huffed out a little laugh, but still hadn’t looked in his direction.

“I wouldn’t blame you though.”

It remained silent for a few minutes after that. Both of you just looked out to the ocean, listening to the waves rolling in and creeping up onto the shore. A light breeze brought you some comfort, but it didn’t take away the knowledge of everyone inside the building behind you.

“I thought you only had one long relationship.” Dean finally breaks the silence, feeling guilty for bringing up such a sensitive topic but was too curious to wipe it away.

“I did.” you reply fairly quickly, your voice as strained as he expected it to be. “It was with Josh.” you admit before going quiet for a few more beats. In that time, Dean felt the crushing pain just rolling off you.

“It was so weird. We were in high school so…I wasn’t sure if it would last or not. But I was happy, and there was always this little sliver of hope that maybe this could be it. Maybe after all those years of…ugh.” you stop to sniffle and wipe away some stray tears.

“I thought I had finally caught my break. But…at one of our family BBQ’s, I caught Hannah talking to him, and she was giggling and…touching him. It was clear she was flirting with him. But he seemed to always brush her off, you know? I thought that he was just being polite since she was family and all that.” He saw your jaw lock up a bit and another tear slide down the side of your face, but this one you just let go.

“But then the following year…I had lost him in the crowd somewhere. Was trying to find him to see if he wanted to help me get the dessert out and set it up.” your head dropped a bit as you and you sniffled a few more times. “I finally found him after about ten minutes. He was up in my room…with her.” Dean’s eyes fell shut as he could practically picture what you walked in on.

“That was one of the last times we had a BBQ at our house and my mom started doing these destination things. But, every year….there they are.”

“I’m so sorry.” Dean finally says, not sure what else he can say to that.

“They always win. I really don’t know why I keep trying sometimes. I mean…when I emailed you I was just so irritated about all the texts I was getting. I told my mom that I might not be able to make it because of work, and she had spread word so fast. My phone was blowing up with texts and emails…and I couldn’t take it. I was hoping that if I could bring someone, that maybe…just maybe they would look at me and for once not have anything to say but congratulations.” Dean’s jaw ticked as he felt the frustration seep into him.

“I’m such a fucking idiot to think that could be a thing.”

“No, you’re not.” he could hear you scoff. “You’re not. It’s not right how they treat you and it’s only normal to want that kind of acceptance from your family. You’re not an idiot, Y/N.” You could feel his hand meet your upper back and he began to lightly massage your neck. But as the two of you heard a faint, “There you are.” in the distance, his hand slid down your back. You both pulled away from the rail and looked over to see your stepdad heading your way with a soft smile on his face.

“I was just about to call it a night, but I had to say goodnight to my girl.” And just like that, Dean saw your sadness disappear and a smile spread across your face as you went in for a hug with the man. “That, and I wanted to see if you wanted to use me as your own escape decoy.”

“He knows me.” you say to Dean after a few moments of just smiling at your father.

The three of you then keep close as you make your way through the crowded room and out the other side. The halls were quiet as everyone was still chatting and drinking away in the large room.

“You two are on the third floor, right?”

“Yeah.” Your dad hit the silver button on the elevator and stood with you both until it arrived. “Thanks, dad.”

“Of course. I know that I’ve had my fair share, so I knew you had to be ready to run for the exit.” The three of you share a light laugh and that’s when the elevator doors open. “You two have a good night.”

“He really does get you.” Dean says after your dad heads down the hall and the two of you step into the elevator.

“Yes he does.”

Dean Winchester had been Y/N Y/L/N’s best friend for a long time. High school was the best time for both of them. He was on the wrestling team, and she was at the top of the academic class. No matter the social status, they had remained best friends. It did also help that Y/N took no bullshit from anyone.

Dean had arrived home with a brown paper bag. He rushed up the stairs and to his room, laying on his belly and reaching under the bed for an old Thundercats lunchbox.  He popped it open and placed the bag inside.

“Hey, Dean!” a voice called from behind him.

Dean glanced quickly over his shoulder and rolled his eyes when he spotted his younger brother, Sam. “Damn it Sammy, what? Can’t you see I’m busy?”

Sam let out a small chuckle, “Mom wants to know what you want for dinner?” the younger Winchester made his way deeper into Dean’s room. “And what are you doing?”

“None of your business, shrimp,” he said as he pushed Sam away from his bed. “You can tell Mom that anything is fine with me as long as there’s pie for dessert.” Dean got up and forgot to put the lunchbox back under his bed.

When Dean tried to push Sam out of the room, Sam took the opportunity to dodge his brother and grab the lunchbox. He was about to pull the bag Dean had put inside when Dean snatched it from him.

“Get out of my room, now,” he growled at his younger brother.

“What’s in the Bag?” Sam asked as he tried to reach for the lunch box.  “And why are you hiding it?”

“Family is family. Whether it’s the one you start out with, the one you end up with, or the family you gain along the way.”

Those words echo in your head as you stare at the empty Impala, sitting quietly in the nearly empty motel parking lot. Your heart squeezes tightly in your chest as you realize the next decision you’d make would be one that would forever impact your life. Your eyes trace the lines of the sleek vehicle you’d spent the better part of the last three years in.

Three years in which you had risked your life multiple times, been through hell, literally, and seen the potential end of the world. Yet, you wouldn’t take any of it back. You wouldn’t give up any of the moments of the past three years for a chance at that apple pie, white picket fence, 2.5 kids life. Hell, you wouldn’t give up a second, even if it meant that the decision you faced now would be non-existent.

The decision to stick it out, to continue to watch the man you secretly love find momentary comfort in the arms of any woman who happened to look his way, to sit idly by as he drowned his sorrows with a bottle of whiskey, and to constantly have to bit your tongue to keep from saying the words you so desperately want to. Or the decision to run, to leave it all behind; the pain, the heartache, the desperate need to hear him whisper the three words that consumed your entire waking thoughts when you were around him. Your entire life hung in the balance, suspended in a pendulum between the choice to run and the choice to stay.

The glow of the flickering fluorescent bulbs reflects onto the shiny black hood of the Impala, pulling you in and drawing your eye to the driver’s wheel. You could almost picture him behind the wheel, one hand casually resting against it as he leans back into the leather seat, the sounds of Led Zeppelin blasting out of the speakers.

The warm air whips in through the open windows, hitting your cheeks and grabbing at your hair. A beam of sunlight shines through the window, sending a pleasant feeling of warmth racing through you as you lean back into the heated leather of the passenger seat. You tilt your head just enough to look over at Dean, your heart squeezing in your chest at the pure freedom on Dean’s face. That satisfied smile rests easily on his lips, his hand settled comfortably on the wheel. The sleeves of his worn flannel are pushed up, revealing his muscular, tanned forearms.

Dean reaches forward, turning down the sounds of “Rambling Man” filling the car. “Sweetheart, I can feel you staring at me. If you want something, all you have to do is ask.” He says smugly, giving you a side-eye before returning his attention to the road.

“I was just looking at that spider on your shoulder.” You answer nonchalantly. “It’s a big one.”

Dean shivers dramatically, a hand shooting out wildly to run over his shoulder. You can’t help but laugh at his sudden reaction and he gives you a dirty look.

“Jeez sweetheart, that’s a bit low.” His tone is sarcastic, a bit biting, but his eyes twinkle. His hand snakes out, grabbing your side and tickling it as best he can while still keeping the vehicle moving forward in something of a straight line.

You let out a loud laugh as you fight off his hand. “Dean,” You say breathlessly, his fingers relentless in their pursuit. He gives you a suave smile, accompanied by a wink, before withdrawing his hand, his gaze returning fully to the road ahead of him.

You lean back in the seat, savoring the moment. Quiet moments, where everything in the world was right and normal, didn’t happen often in this life. You couldn’t recall the last time you’d actually seen Dean smile in pure, honest happiness and that alone had you wishing that you could freeze time and stay here forever in this moment with Dean.

A soft smile spreads across your face at the memory. That had been a good day, one where the troubles of the supernatural, of hunting and saving the world, hadn’t hung over you like a dark cloud. The heavy creak of a door pulls you out of your thoughts, your attention flying to the row of rooms behind you.

A broad, unmistakable figure stands in the doorway, outlined by the dim light of the room behind him, his features partially hidden in the shadows. You don’t say anything, watching as he slowly closes the distance separating the two of you. His eyes land on your duffle, which you had discarded at your feet while you’d been trying to decide what to do next.

“Where you going Y/N?” He asks in a rare instance in which he used your real name and not some nickname he’d concocted for you. You give a half-hearted shrug in response, unable to answer as your mind floats between the two decisions in front of you.

He knew without looking, what you were thinking about, it was written all over your face. And yet, he still couldn’t bring himself to say the words he’d been burying underneath the surface for the last year. He couldn’t say the words because he knew that the moment he did, you’d be drug down with him, caught in that endless battle between the good and the evil. Or even worse, that something would use you to get to him, turn you into that evil being he felt he himself had become.

“I can’t do this anymore.” You finally speak, something unexplainable pushing you towards a decision, one that would tear you apart, but would take you out of that vicious cycle you’d fallen into. “I think I’m going to go. I’ve been crashing on your guys’ thing for way too long. It’s time you got back to really doing the family business.”

“This is family Y/N.” He says roughly, pointing back towards the half-open door of the motel room. “We’re family.” His hand falls back listlessly to his side as his kaleidoscopic eyes fall on you, boring into your eyes as he looks for some sign that you understand the implication of his words; some sign that you heard what he couldn’t bring himself to actually say.

“I know Dean.” You whisper, that broken, hopeless feeling settling back in your chest as his eyes read the emotions you can’t hide. “But this-” you gesture wildly between the two of you, “This, us, isn’t going to happen. You’ve made that perfectly clear.”

“Y/N, wait.” His voice is thick, his hand reaching out, grabbing your hand, effectively stopping your movement. He falls silent as the air between the two of you cracks with an unnamable charge. You find yourself leaning forward, the distance between the two of you dissipating. His eyes drift to your lips, lingering there before he slowly drags them back up to yours. His head tilts forward, coming even closer to yours. Your breath mingles with his, your lips only a breath away from his own. Your heart begins to beat faster in your chest, the anticipation of finally feeling his lips against yours seizing your body. Dean hesitates there a moment and you can almost taste his lips on yours before he pulls back.

He doesn’t say anything but you can see it written in his face, the fear and guilt shining like light through the cracks of his mask. You wait, hoping that you were seeing something that wasn’t there, but he remains silent.

You pick your duffle up off the scuffed, strangely stained sidewalk, hauling it up and over your shoulder before making your way towards the nearly vacant main street. He doesn’t stop you, he can’t knowing full well what a life with him would mean for you. Instead, he lets you go, watching as you walk away, his heart ripping away from his chest as you, unknowingly, take it with you.

@mvdeanw so…. This video is very important to us. And we feel very proud of it. It’s our own fix it version of the finale.

I was listening to that song a lot last summer andbi kept thinking. There were lyrics that made me think of the finale. And then the ending was a lot more hopeful. So i knew roght away what i wanted to do. I had the whole sequence in my head. This time we starter at the end and worked our way to the sad parts. We wanted to be sure that it works and that the story as we intented it, works. I think we did okay.

Hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it. And i hope it makes you happy. ❤️❤️
