first off, it looks SO ACCURATE for a 14 year old trying to draw realistic but it just comes out uncanny and weird cuz they don’t have all the basics down yet that i briefly wondered if one of the show’s artists got one of their younger family members to do it
but MOSTLY because i love the idea of luz being super invested in the story but dozing off anyway
the implications that eda’s physical presence is just that comforting that not only did everyone go from sitting across from her to snuggling up in her lap as she told the story, but that they all felt safe and cozy enough cuddled against her to fall asleep right there. i can almost imagine her, without even thinking about it, running her fingers through luz’s hair or king’s fur (maybe even hooty’s feathers or the mouse’s fur too) as she feels them settle onto her lap
and that eda’s voice was just so warm and soothing that it had the power to lull them all to sleep. sounding so soft and fond even during the more intense parts of the story because of the love she has for the kids she’s telling the story to and for the person she’s telling the story about
(this tangentially gives me a little headcanon that sufficiently skilled bard witches gain the ability to magically influence others with their words. it’s a very subtle thing, nowhere near as powerful as a d&d style charm person spell, just a light trace of magic in their voice that tugs at your feelings more strongly than the words would otherwise. and eda doesn’t have the ability to do that anymore but she’s maintained a sort of charm (in the human sense of the term) to her voice.)
Luz VS Eda is a tragic fight… But in a way, I’m also kinda proud of Luz over it? Remember how Eda said that Luz would have to earn her staff. How Luz fretted over being a witch and not even a fourth as capable as her mentor. But now here Luz is, able to keep up with Eda and even surpass her in some regards, effortlessly flying with Owlbert until Eda takes him from her; Because in the end, Owlbert isn’t for Luz, her own Palisman she’ll carve is!
Like it really does feel like a narrative milestone, to have the student face off against the teacher and show off all the skills they’ve learned and prove themselves this way. Which tbh Luz sort of WAS trying to prove herself in this moment, strong enough to fight with Eda; And it basically worked, as Eda realized Luz is just like her and will always find a way to butt in and help. So as Raine had to acknowledge this for Eda by letting her in, Eda does the same for Luz…
Luz finally earned her staff. She’s truly a witch now as Eda promised, as Raine recognizes, and now she can get that magic staff that she’s been working to for all this time. They say a teacher truly succeeds if the student can surpass them, and at least in some ways, even if you didn’t take Eda’s curse debilitating her magic into account (it HELPED in some regards like keeping track of invisible Luz), I truly think Luz did. And Eda certainlyagrees!
This fight really felt a culmination of the mentor-apprentice relationship these two had over magic but also life in general, a coming of age moment where Luz is strong and independent enough to actually contest with her parent and make decisions, make demands and have her own stake amongst the adults while still cared for as a kid, and I love it.
We see Luz use spells Eda helped teach her, the Light and Ice glyphs particularly, but also flex some of her own self-taught combos to prove Luz CAN innovate like Eda, and thus think and learn for herself as any teacher should desire out of an apprentice. Now I wish we got to see Luz use the Hover glyph combo too in this fight -there was a perfect moment for that when she falls- but this fight is so good in general I can live with it!
Just mentor and mentee showing off their skills. What Luz learned but also what EDA learned via Harpy mode, which can fly and hear Luz; A harpy mode Eda only attained because of the happiness her student taught her. And so the student teachers the teacher, the teacher learns from the student as well; And thus they both show off to one another what they’ve been taught and make the best of their lessons from the other! And Eda finally showed that when she agreed to let Luz in, after Luz taught Eda to open herself up…!
And as always, they’ve always got more to learn, and thus always have more to teach!
To briefly analyze, I want to point out that Luz’s cloak seems to be repaired! Not sure how Eda pulled that one off without our former demon hunter Prim… Did Darius help, as he did with Hunter’s cloak? Maybe even Steve, since he doesn’t have a sigil???
We see Luz has a new outfit! Seems to be a gray shirt with baggy beige pants, we can get a better look with this leaked thumbnail;
Definitely a more tactical, practical type of outfit for combat and lethal situations! I appreciate the CATTs making sure this kid is prepared and dressed to fight! Luz also has a blue backpack, possibly for glyphs and/or her Palisman, and I just love the new look overall! Like the letterman was already enough as a Season 2 update but the creators really go above and beyond in updating our cast to symbolically and visually show their growth, I love it!
Pretty sure this is the same balcony from the Latissa hideout, you can see the railing and in the background over the doorway is a sign saying “sssssss” no doubt the cut-off hiss banner alluding to the CATTs!
But maybe it’s a hiss alluding to a snake Palisman…? Regardless, King is clearly pumped and hyping himself up to take on the Emperor’s Coven and his mom and sister are there for him!
You know how we keep wondering why Eda and Lilith both couldn’t get into the Emperor’s Coven?
Hunter said many times that new recruits get separated from friends and family. Eda and Lilith couldn’t join together because the Emperor’s Coven uses abuse tactics. They isolate their victims. Siblings can provide each other support, so they can’t join together.
Eda’s account was shown to be badgirlcoven in previous eps. Does this mean Raine blocked her in that account and she had to make a new one to comment? That’s be hilarious

Three times now, the promotional material for Clouds on the Horizon have showed the Owl fam hugging and being sweet, but only ONE has implied the Blight fam.
This might be a stretch, but what if part of the episode is drawing parallels between the Owl fam vs the Blight fam?
