jungwon down bad

☆ ENHYPEN AND HOW THEIR FRIENDS FIND OUT ABOUT THEM HAVING A CRUSH.

pairing: hyung-line!enhypen x f!reader

genre: fluff, idol!au

author’s notes: i like doing these ‍‍‍

HEESEUNG

he tries to keep it a secret as long as he possibly can but jungwon gets suspicious when he notices the longing stares heeseung sends your way whenever you walk through the corridors. so naturally as the good leader he is, he wants to talk aboutt it.

it’s in the late evening when heeseung congratulates himself for keeping it a secret with his favorite pastry when suddenly jungwon mentions your name. “hyung, how is yn doing today? i heard she fell down pretty hard today during practice.”. heeseung is nervous, why would jungwon suddenly talk about you. “she did? i didn’t know.”

“oh, i thought you would since you are pretty close to her.” the other members are now looking at the two curiously, listening to their conversation as they wait for any explanation.

“im not thatclose to her, we only talked a few times.” heeseung is sweating buckets, eyes widening in fear. did jungwon found out about his crush on you?

“really? i thought you were close to her,you know, since you like her”

heeseung chokes on his pastry. sunoo lets out a gasp as he covers his mouth with his hand and the rest of the boys look at heeseung with wide eyes as a concerned look takes place over jungwon’s face. the room falls silent for ten solid seconds until jungwon clears his throat awkwardly. “was i the only one to know?”

jungwon never gets his answer because as soon as the words leave his mouth, the other members’ voices fill the room. “hyung! you have a crush?!” “yn?! the pretty girl with the cool dance moves?” “you were going to tell us right?”

it’s safe to say that heeseung walked out of the kitchen quickly, trying to hide in one of the rooms with the members running after him, throwing questions after questions about “yn, the girl who stole heeseung’s heart”

☆ JAY

jay manages to keep his crush on you a secret for around a month and a half, which is a lot and considered an achievement when you live with six noisy boys. but jay’s not proud about it, since he knows the only reason why his brothers hadn’t find out yet was because of their busy schedule due to their recent comeback.

so while they are all busy preparing for upcoming events, jay isn’t the slightly worried about them– or you, finding out about his preference for you. that is until he catches one of your group-members eyeing him suspiciously when your group bumped into his in the hallway after your group’s performance. he just hopes that she didn’t catch him staring at you with heart eyes.

your group leader is very good at reading people, so one look at jay and she knows exactly why he’s more flustered than usual after you complimented him on his outfit and performance. unfortunately for jay, she also loves to gossip and is very close to sunoo. less than an hour and a few whispers later, sunoo’s strolling to jay in the dressing room.

when sunoo drags his stool closer to jay’s until their shoulders almost touch, the latter gets suspicious, looking at the younger boy in confusion. sunoo is the first one to speak up, “do you like yn?”. jay can only look at sunoo’s innocent expression in shock before he shakes his head, “yn? no i don’t like her.” and thus begins a series of back and forth.

“so you don’t think she’s pretty?”. jay sighs, “i didn’t say that”. “so you think she’s pretty?” sunoo pries. “well i can’t deny that”, jay mumbles. “so you like yn”, sunoo exclaims. “sunoo, i didnt say that”, jay sighs again. “so, you don’t like her?” “oh mY GOD SUNOO STOP! OKAY YES I LIKE YN AND WHAT ABOUT IT?!” jay finally admits, putting his face in his hands when he can sense the other members’ stares.

sunoo only giggles devilishly, a small “got you” falling from his lips as he watches jake throw his arm around jay’s shoulders, smirking when the room fills with questions and cheers from the other members.

☆ JAKE

it’s seven in the evening when jake retreats to the dorm’s dressing room to call his mom. he explicitly tells the other members not to come in so that he could have his weekly interaction with her. usually, jake would call his family at least two times a week.

she probably knows jake has a crush on you since the first time he talked about you because of her mother instinct and because of how happy jake sounded upon talking about your group and you. after that call ended, she had googled your group and listened to a few of your songs.

“you know, i’m quite impressed by yn. she’s a very good dancer.” her voice echoes through the room as jake’s preparing his bag for that week’s photoshoot, phone on speaker. he chuckles a bit before his mom continues, “also a very pretty girl, i understand why you have taken a liking to her.”

the moment the first words leave her lips, niki barges into the room unannounced, stopping dead in his tracks when he catches on what was being said. jake panics at the sight of the youngest member and goes to grab the phone but niki’s faster, snatching the phone away in front of his eyes before running off.

he listens to how his mother accidently reveal his crush, continuing to blabber about yn as she thinks she’s talking to her son. niki’s jumping excitedly to the living room, interupting jake’s mother by yelling a loud “jake has a crush on yn! his mom told me!” through the dorm, attracting the attention of the other boys and jake thinks he might pass out as he’s dramatically slumped over the dressing room’s couch, whinning when he hears the footsteps of his members in the hallway.

☆ SUNGHOON

at first, none of his group members were suspicious of sunghoon. but that was only at first, and when he didn’t actually know you or meet you in person. let’s say that sunghoon was able to hide it pretty effectively since he only admired you from afar. in summary, sunghoon just doesn’t talk about you or your group to avoid any suspicions.

however, his plan backfires when his group meets yours backstage an award show and jake openly jokes about how each member is a fan of yours but sunghoon, as the latter never even pronounces your name around the dorm.

he sees you playfully cross your arms before he’s rushing over to you and jake, interrupting the conversation immediately to correct jake’s words. with a flushed face and lots of stutters, he manages to convince you that he is indeed a fan too but that he is just a bit on the quieter side and doesn’t always express his admiration for your group in front of other people.

after the show, sunghoon swears he could kill jake as he sends him death glares during the ride back home. but when they step into their dorm, he doesn’t expect his friend to turn towards him with a smirk.

“so, you got pretty irritated back there, didn’t you?”

the desire to slap jake is strong but sunghoon remains calm. “obviously, that was disrespectful of you to say.”

“we were joking, besides, how am i supposed to know you’re a fan when you act like you didn’t even know their group existed.” jake snickers at his friend’s words, having caught on why he reacted like that. he continues, throwing him a wink “don’t worry bro, i won’t talk about it.”

at the same moment, jay steps into the room, “won’t talk about what?”

jake doesn’t even spare the other boy a glance as he smirks, running a hand through his hair when he grabs himself a bottle of water. “won’t talk about sunghoon’s crush on yn.”

jay stops in his tracks, gaping at his two friends as the other members join them in the living room, having heard the last sentence of the conversation. jake leans against the kitchen counter with a big smile on his face as he watches sunghoon getting punched in the arm by a happy jungwon.

poor sunghoon can only groan in despair, scrunching his nose as he falls back onto the couch with a loud thump, hiding as much as possible in the cushions.

→ the second waltz — yang jungwon

synopsis: you reward him with a dance of waltz after he saves your plant.

genre: fluff, established relationship.

length: 1.002k words.

requested by:anon.

warnings: none.

Late into the night, you’re reading by your bedside lamp, the room lit by the cozy light. Rain is pouring onto the roof, the sound of the droplets hitting your window fading into white noise as you flip to the next page of your favourite book. It seems that you can never get enough of the words the author had spilled on the pages, having already read it more than a couple times.

Sitting by your desk, back to you as he replants your plant into another vessel, is Yang Jungwon. There’s a comfortable silence that hangs in the air, the two presences in the room preoccupied with something on their own— it’s been like that for a while now, far before it had even started raining. Neither he, nor you seem to mind the quietness.

It’s not long however, before he turns to you with a boyish smile on his face. He’s expecting you to finish reading the line you’re at, pausing to pay attention to him and so that is exactly what you do. Setting the book back on your nightstand with the bookmark peeking out of the page you leave it at, you pull the simple cover away from your lap, hopping out of your mattress to stalk towards him.

“Are you done?” You lay your hand on his shoulder, leaning against the sturdy material of your desk to inspect the brand new condition of your previously suffering aloe plant, having outgrown its little pot you’d bought it in. It had been months since you’d welcomed it in your home and a change in… outfit was long overdue.

“Yup,” Jungwon nods, slipping out of his rubber gloves, “she’ll be thriving again now.”

Pushing the chair back, he stretches his legs. “Now, how am I going to be repaid?” The all-too eager expression spreads on his face— the same kind of grin he always wore whenever he knows that he will be getting something from you, whether it’s a hug, a kiss or in this case, a dance.

Reaching for your phone to open the proper piece of music for the occasion, you chuckle, “Fine, I’ll teach you how to waltz.”

From the corner of your eyes, you see him jump from his seat and start cleaning up the mess he’d accidentally created on your desk in the process of saving your aloe. Brushing the bits of soil into your trash bin, he asks you, “Is there even enough space to dance here?”

“If you help me move the bed a little to the side, then there will be.”

The rain had dwindled down by the time you’d quietly moved your bed, now falling in gentle pitter-patters. Jungwon is standing in the middle of the emptied space, ready to learn anything you teach him. Waltz No. 2 by Shostakovich is playing from your phone’s speakers, just loud enough to be heard and not too much to disturb the remaining population of the house.

“I’ll lead you, so follow my steps, okay?” You begin by placing your right hand over his shoulder when his left hand finds your waist. It’s intimate in a sense, being just you and him in your room only a foot apart, The Second Waltz in the background sounding as gentle as the hold you have on each other.

There’s an ever-constant flutter in his stomach, one that never seemed to go away in your presence. He should be used to it by now, though he is not. How could he? Even after you being his and him being yours for a year by now, he is just as smitten with you as he was before. The few words that leave your lips only barely registers in his mind before you take a step to the left.

“Now back to my right, step your right foot back next to your left and then take a step forward with your left foot.” You instruct him with an encouraging tone, not paying any heed when he steps on your toes by accident.

You step back, followed by another step to your left. Signalling him to move his foot back, you end up back where you’d started, creating a box shape. A step backwards, then to the left, forward and again, to the right— the sequence is repeated all over again.

It’s by the end of the second circle you’ve done around the room when his body fully adjusts to the rhythm, now entirely at ease with the steps and movement. “How very romantic.” He chimes, running the pad of his thumb over your intertwined hands.

The comment pulls a shy smile out of you, “I look like a rat in my old pajamas, Won. It can’t be that romantic.”

“Quite on the contrary,” he whispers, pulling you closer by the waist, taking you by surprise, “I’ve never seen anyone prettier.”

“Oh yeah,” you entertain him with a sly glint in your eyes, “how about Jang Wonyoung?”

It doesn’t bother you how he’s worked closely with idols— female ones, those who are objectively beautiful. You know the amount of love he carries in his heart only for you. Through his words and affectionate advances, even the way he simply looks at you is enough to make you feel secure in yourself.

That doesn’t mean that you didn’t like teasing him every once in a while with questions like this one. You find great pleasure in the way he panics and sputters, horrified that you might think less of his love for you.

“You know you’re way more beautiful than anyone else on this planet in my eyes.” He grumbles, noticing your mirthful stare, though he instantly lights up when you place a peck on the tip of his scrunched up nose. Another above his brow, then another on his cheek, and another on his jaw.

Jungwon melts inside, feeling his knees weaken when you smile at him again, brushing away the strands of hair falling over his eyes, “I know.

39 mf hamster (written part! 2.8k words)

an: not proofread ahhsdgshfb i also got carried away oops

                       written part below! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Jungwon doesn’t hesitate walking into the familiar flower cafe shop this time with a skip in his step and a quiet melodic hum leaving his throat. He supposed he might as well visit your dad considering he was very biased last time and buy flowers for his aunt for helping him with his friendship with you. With a new start in his mind, he wanders further and finds your dad by the register arranging flower bouquets which Jungwon notes were wonderful.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Y/L/N” Jungwon greets as he approaches your dad closer. He notices your dad’s expression lighten from the tensed focused face earlier. Your dad looks up and notices Jungwon with a nod before quickly finishing tying the bouquet together neatly.

“Hey, Jungwon! How’s it been kid?” Your dad says, gently placing the flower next to the neat pile of other bouquets Jungwon presumed he had made before his arrival. He then comes round in front of the register and gives Jungwon a suffocating hug for a few seconds which Jungwon now find comfort in.

“I’m doing good thank you. I’m just passing by to buy a bouquet or something for my aunt before I go down to her apartment” Jungwon replies

“How about I make one for your aunt yeah?” Your dad suggests and Jungwon nods at the idea. “Oh, but I have to deliver these orders very quick first”

“Orders?” Jungwon unconsciously repeats

“Oh yeah, there are few old customers around here but they can’t travel all the time so I make deliver whenever I can” your dad replies, going back behind the register to pick up a list before what seemed like double-checking the name, address and orders.

“What if the shop gets busy? or what if you can’t?” Jungwon asks curiously

“The shop never gets busy” Your dad smiles and Jungwon can’t help but feel bad for asking knowing how people perceive your and your dad’s appearance before getting to know both of you. “If I get too busy here making orders and can’t deliver, I usually get Y/N to look after the shop or deliver. She makes a good assistant”

With that new information, (or maybe with the mention of your name) Jungwon’s ear perks up and his attention are now 101% on the conversation. “I don’t usually ask her to though, I know how busy you kids are with exams and studying.”

Jungwon finds the similarities between you and your dad endearing. Not only you two are quite intimidating with your fierce resting bitch face, you two were thoughtful of others around you. No wonder you grew up to be kind and considerate despite the rumours around you in Hybe U. “Speaking on Y/N! She called me a few minutes ago sayings she’s on her way-!”

“Dad! Do you want me to deliver or stay in the shop today-”

“My little goldfish you’re here!” You weren’t even able to finish your sentence when your dad also engulfs you in another suffocating hug.

“Dad what did I tell you about your suffocating hugs” you huff, unaware of the boy watching your interaction with your dad. It was a cute moment that Jungwon thinks he could engrave in his mind because you were definitely extra adorable at that moment.

“Do you mind staying in the store today? I’ll do the delivery round and how about you occupy Jungwon before I get back okay?” Your dad finally points at him sitting by one of the tables. Your head whips in his direction and Jungwon finds a moment of Deja Vu- just like the moment when you found out, he sat next to you in class. He sees you stifle a little before giving an awkward wave with a tint of blush rushing your neck and ears. He supposed interaction with your own parent was a little embarrassing to witness and he can attest to that.

“Hi,” You mumble. How are you supposed to act around someone whom you’ve recently discovered you have a huge crush on?

“Hello,” he mirrors. How was he supposed to act around someone whom he recently discovered he likes?

“Oh, you two are comfortable with each other now?” Your dad snaps the quiet conversation between you two. You give Jungwon a last look before nodding to your dad which Jungwon copied.

“Great! I’ll go do the deliveries now. Y/N please keep Jungwon occupied and look after the shop for a little bit! I’ll be back as soon as I can!” Just like that, your dad had rushed off with the box of bouquets.

With that, the shop goes a bit quiet with the two of you unable to look at each other, though it doesn’t last long when Jungwon interrupts the silence not before he glimpses in your direction. Five days. He wasn’t being dramatic when he thinks five days was too long not seeing you. His mind drifts to your relationship with Beomgyu. Were the two of you closer than you and him?  Does Beomgyu know you more than him now? In those five days, Jungwon wonders if you’d missed him as he missed you too.  He just wishes your friendship was still as it was. “So uhm… How were classes?”

“Classes?” You jolted at his sudden question you convince yourself. Totally not by his voice. “Classes were… okay. Normal I supposed? Sorry I didn’t bring your notes”

“I supposed it should be normal yeah” Jungwon chuckles, mentally giving himself a facepalm at the stupid question. “and don’t worry about that. It’s not like you knew I’d be here”

“hmm why are you here anyway?” you ask walking closer to the front register and leaning on the desk with your elbow, cheeks resting on your hand. “It’s rare to find a busy idol like you to be in a random flower shop” you giggle

“Just picking up flowers for my aunt before I go there” he replies without missing a smile on hearing your giggle

“Not for me?” You pout jokingly before dramatically sighing hand on your forehead “Oh chivalry is dead”

“You’re more dramatic than I remember” he chuckles, walking to where you are.

“This is what you get for leaving me with Beomgyu for a whole week” you go back to your position. “Now you have to deal with two of us”

“I wouldn’t mind dealing with you” He doesn’t know where the confidence comes from but with your red cheeks and flustered expression, the splurge of his confidence doesn’t stop. “Maybe you’ll like me more than Beomgyu and Jen- YN THE VASE”

“THE VASE” unable to comprehend the amount of confidence the Jungwon in front of you was displaying, you tried your best to gather yourself together out of your dilemma. You really tried. You were out there internally calling God to help you deal with this newly found side of Jungwon when your elbow leaning on the front desk hits the vase decoratively displayed forward.

Thanks to your, now recovered state, you were quick enough to grab the vase. However, Jungwon, naturally gifted with quick reflexes, was also able to grasp the vase before it slips on the floor. Now, If you were praying for God at the previous dilemma, you were definitely pleading for any or if not, allthe heavenly beings in all astral dimensions to help you with the current awkward situation.

As you had grasped the vase first before Jungwon had, his hands were now on top of yours as you both held the fragile vase. Apparently, you comprehend the situation faster as your eyes dart from his hand to his eyes to find him mirroring you. His hand is large, soft and warm you note and Jungwon can’t help but thinks almost the same except he thinks your hand is smaller which makes you more adorable than he had ever thought. Neither of you moving from the situation. Hand in hand on the vase and eyes locked on each other. It was almost as if you both didn’t want to let go and maybe the comfortable silence, soft gaze and red cheeks were an indication that you both didn’t.

“OH HEY IT’S YOU JUNGWON!” crack.  An abrupt loud voice made the two of you jump, hands pulling out forgetting the fragile vase in your grasp. Jungwon had definitely walked back a few steps and you were too shocked at the vase on the floor to notice the voice that had both of you jumping.

“AND Y/N?!” You finally looked up to see Choi Beomgyu.

“Beomgyu?” You both called in unison.

“Hello, it’s me” He waved at Jungwon then to you, then his attention focused on the broken vase. “Damn, who’s the clumsy person who dropped that? It looks expensive”

You and Jungwon looked at each other, glad Beomgyu missed the event prior to vase breaking. “Uh, I did” You mumble, quickly rushing to the backroom to gather the brush and dustpan to clear the broken piece.

“Oh wow, I’ve never been to this side of the town” Beomgyu walks toward Jungwon who is now sitting back down in his previous seat. “It’s so quiet and nice here”

“Yeah, Y/N’s dad owns the place. I think it’s a perfect spot to hang out without overbearing fans” Jungwon agrees as he watches you clear the broken piece easily and quickly before joining them,

“Your dad owns the place?” Beomgyu directs the question to you which you nod. “Oh… then I should probably g-“

“Excuse me? Is the shop still open?” A voice calls out from the entrance as their footsteps echo closer. Being the daughter of the owner, you quickly stand up and make your way to the customer.

“Actually yeah-“

“Oh I’m so sorry, it isn’t right? I didn’t read the sign” The customer- or rather a potential customer took one glance at you and your resting bitch face and was ready to turn around. Jungwon doesn’t miss the way your expression falls with your head to hide your eyes with your hair.

“No, we’re actually ope-“

“Hello! Welcome! We’re actually still open if you’d like to have a look around!” Jungwon calls out, loud and cheerful enough for the woman to go back. Jungwon takes the apron laying around the front desk and quickly slips it on, walking towards you. “Y/N, we’ll handle this together”

Just like that, the customer walks to you and Jungwon. You both walk her around the flowers and suggest arrangements for each she picked. While you skilfully arranged the flowers, Jungwon and Beomgyu worked their way on the register machine. Soon enough, all three of you were seeing off the customer. When they say words travel fast, it really does because your shop is now facing a line of customers waiting to buy flowers from the small flower shop with “two handsome workers” and just like that, your shop was left empty and a very tired “two handsome workers” and a sale lady.

“I’m sorry I had you two work in the shop out of nowhere” after the three of you get enough rest, you walk out of the staff room, holding two iced tea and serving them to Beomgyu and Jungwon who currently looked tired and you don’t blame them.

“Don’t worry about it, I enjoyed it actually” Jungwon assures you, though you aren’t fully convinced by his tired look. “really, it feels refreshing to do. A day off from the idol stuff”

“For real! It wasn’t what I expected I would be doing when I walked out of the dorm but that was kind of fun actually” Beomgyu adds

“Why were you out and about anyway?” you ask

“I had a fight with Soobin’s pet Odi” Beomgyu scoffs “that little prickly hamster”

“Isn’t Odi a hedgehog?” Jungwon questions, slightly confused if he had heard wrong

“Whatever he is” Beomgyu scoffs again “I swear Soobin is correct that the little guy is Snail Lady”

“You guys have a pet hedgehog?” You awe as you move closer to Beomgyu “I’ve always thought they’re so cute, but I never knew you could have them as a pet!”

“Yeah, He’s called Odi and one of my members, Soobin, has him as a pet” Beomgyu whips out his phone and shows you photos. “Isn’t he so cute?”

“Y/N, but Maeumi is cuter right?” Jungwon is quick to go between you and Beomgyu, asking you about Maeumi

“Well yeah, I guess but they’re both different species-“

“Oh? What happened here?!” Your dad’s voice is heard from the entrance upon seeing your empty flower shop.

“Hey dad” you waved and smiled. “Beomgyu and Jungwon helped us sell out the flowers. Apparently, they’re old ladies man”

“Are you and Jungwon friends now? This guy is also your friend?!” Your dad exclaimed, “You’re both my little goldfish’s friends?”

Jungwon nods and chuckles at your dramatic- almost teary-eyed dad. “Dad, I have friends you know! Stop being dramatic”

“Nice to meet you Beomgyu?” Your dad doesn’t pay attention to you but goes straight to Beomgyu with a handshake. Beomgyu shakes his hand but you and Jungwon can’t help but snicker at his frozen almost scared face.

“Yeah, they’ve been in Hybe U together since the first year!” Beomgyu’s eyes widen at Jungwon. Beomgyu’s heart is leaping out of his chest at that mention, why would Jungwon tell him that. He was sure your dad would be yelling at him at any moment.

“OH! Then any friend of Y/N and Jungwon are welcome here!” Your dad comes closer and hugs Beomgyu. Beomgyu is clearly still shocked and very much frozen. “Y/N, go grab some pastries for these two! And get the fresh ones in the kitchen!” You tsk at this but still go anyway.

“I’m sorry Beomgyu, I must’ve come off as scary again” Your dad settle down, leaving both boys in front of him without words. “ I know I look scary and I’ve been offered those types of jobs before but I promise you, my love for flowers and cafés is greater.. and I’m scared of blood”

“I can take a misunderstanding, but I hope Y/N has been living well without them” your dad continues. “I’m sure Y/N has heard of them but she has never brought it up with me”

Both Beomgyu and Jungwon are still lost for words. Jungwon for thinking again how you two are similar and Beomgyu really questioning the fact that you hadn’t told your own dad about the rumours about you and him in Hybe U because he would definitely have if it was him. Beomgyu notices that in fact, both you and your dad were nothing like the rumours.

“Don’t worry Mr Y/L/N! Nothing like those will ever happen again!” Jungwon speaks up as you’re exiting the kitchen with the pastries in a paper bag in your hand “I will help… and Beomgyu will too”

“That’s right Mr Y/L/N!” Beomgyu speaks up

“Help with what” you catch up

“U-Uh you know…” Jungwon starts

“When you can’t handle the shop like today” Beomgyu continues, sticking out his tongue at you as you do too and placing the paper bags on the table.

“Dad, we should probably go. Jungwon has to help Ms Yang and Beomgyu has some reconciliation to  do” You tell him and the boys agree

“Give me two seconds! I forgot about the flower” Your dad rushes to the back room.

“Y/N, you didn’t tell your dad about the rumours in Hybe U?” Beomgyu whispers and you shake your head in response.

“My dad is a little sensitive you see. He gets a little dramatic over something small, so I try not to worry him when he’s already got so much to worry about.” You explain. “Did you guys know when I made friends with the Dream, he celebrated with a party” Beomgyu and Jungwon laughs at the thought. Jungwon can’t help but fall for you all over again. He was definitely in too deep, and he’s not worried at all.

“Jungwon here’s for your aunt” Your dad comes around with a bouquet which Jungwon took before your dad reaches out to Beomgyu with a single red rose wrapped in a thin white paper in his hand. “and this is for you Beomgyu! It’s a gift! Red roses symbolize passionate love and I can see the passion of what you love in you”

“You do?! I am a passionate man!” Beomgyu takes the rose in his hand feeling triumph and happiness.

“Okay Dad, we’ll go now bye!” You pulled the two out of the shop. “I’ll walk Jungwon to the apartment, how about you Beomgyu?”

“I think I’m a fan of your dad” The sparks in his eyes were an understatement. You could practically see fireworks setting off if you look enough.

“Ok, don’t get lost on your way back daydreaming,” You tell him, sending him off but he doesn’t move. “Go reconcile with Odi with your new passion yeah?”

“With passion!” he raises the rose in his hand while walking back.

“Will he be okay?” You ask Jungwon as you two start to make your way back to the apartment.

“He’ll be fine I think” Jungwon laughs as you do too.

a regular monday morning, a regular start to the week.

student government starts an hour earlier than the actual school day, so here you are. 6:56 AM exactly, arriving at school with enough time to slip your weekly love letter into his locker on the way to the student government office.

until it wasn’t a regular start.

“good morning vice prez.” his voice rings in your ear as you freeze in your spot, the letter just leaving your fingertips and you hear it hit the bottom of his locker.

maybe you’re hallucinating.

but it’s always good to check.

you turn around and you see jungwon’s figure standing in front of you.

yep, definitely delirious. as student gov’s president, he’s always first in the room, and always last to leave. it’s definitely rare for him to be out right now.

so you mentally shake yourself awake, and walk towards the office. it wasn’t good to daydream.

“hey!” the jungwon hallucination is suddenly running to catch up to you. “it’s rude to ignore your boss!”

you whip your head around.

“my delusions are getting more and more realistic, jungwon sounds exactly as he should in real life.” you say to yourself, slapping your cheeks to wake yourself even more.

“delusions?” jungwon hallucination exclaims. “vice president y/n, i am most definitely not a delusion.”

“jungwon would probably be in the office already, and it’s highly unlikely he would be outside right now, so kindly please go away.” you shooed him as he laughed.

“you’re not wrong, but i was getting my water bottle i forgot in my locker.” your mouth hangs open as you realize.

jungwon giggles and flicks your forehead before he starts walking again.

“are you not surprised that i was the one slipping letters into your locker?” you catch up to him and you question him, playing the whole situation off, attempting to hide your embarrassment.

“i mean, your letters weren’t discrete at all.” he elbows you, smirking. scoffing and crossing your arms. “the handwriting, the stickers, the content. do you not think that i wouldn’t know my vp’s writing?”

“well, what do you think?” you ask, trying to keep your cool.

“hmm, i don’t know, what do i think?” jungwon smiles smugly and winks. “okay, this week’s student government meeting starts now. we’re taking attendance, who’s not here?”

you’re looking down and scowling, but jungwon knows that you understood what he meant.

he knows there’s a blush swarming your cheeks you’re trying to keep a secret, and he smiles to himself.

“You’re doing it again.” Jake rolled his eyes as you stared at the mirror inside your locker, checking your makeup. “Y/N, you look fine. Any more mascara and I’m afraid your lashes will touch the ceiling.”

You turned around and glared at him, pulling the books he was carrying for you out of his arms. He sighed and leaned away from the locker behind him, messing up his hair. Jake kept staring at you for a while as you packed your belongings inside your locker, picking up the books for your next class. When you were done, you closed it and smiled at your friend, a gesture he reciprocated.

“You do look pretty. You look pretty every day, not just today. It’s just that I-”

At the end of the hallway, a group of students disturbed the peace with bright smiles and happy cheers, high fiving everyone they knew on their way to class. Your eyes landed on the one leading the group, and you couldn’t help but smile at him. That was the Park Sunghoon effect. No one resisted his charms. Not even you.

Sunghoon was everything you looked for in a guy. Besides his good looks, he was an extremely kind and caring person who also had good grades. Other girls described him as mister perfect, and you were almost sure you would start using that title as well. What wasn’t there to like, appreciate or love about him? In theory, Sunghoon could be considered perfect.

When his arms wrapped around a girl’s shoulders and he kissed her cheek, your heart sank in your chest and suddenly, you came back to reality. Perfection wasn’t a part of your world. You could stare all you wanted at Sunghoon, you could admire him from afar, you could even exchange a few words in class, but that was about it. He rarely took more than two seconds to look at you.

If perfection existed, the two of you would be together. If perfection was real, he would be the one you would call boyfriend. If perfection existed, he would be eager to get to know you the same way you were excited to get to know him.

But alas, perfection doesn’t exist. And the fake scenarios in your hand would be just that. Fake.

“Why isn’t he into me?” You said under your breath as he strolled down the corridor with his girlfriend, kissing her cheek softly when he passed in front of you. It felt like the universe was punishing you. “What am I missing?”

You gulped and under Jake’s attentive gaze, you started to make your way to your next class, your eyes staring down at your feet. After a while, Jake wrapped his arm around your shoulders and patted it softly, making you look at him. He offered you a kind smile.

“It’s his loss that he doesn’t see what’s right in front of him.” He booped your nose and the two of you stopped in front of your classroom. “You’re great, Y/N. And I… I hope someday you’ll fall in love with someone who appreciates you deeply for who you are. Someone that doesn’t make you feel like you’re lacking something. Because you’re whole on your own. And pretty great too.” He cleared his throat and shrugged, fixing the bag on his shoulder and shoving his hands in the pockets of his jeans. “Maybe a little bit annoying. Oh, and you complain a lot too.” At this, you rolled your eyes and pushed him away from you, making him giggle slightly. “Okay, fine. Fine! I’ll walk you home after classes?”

You fixed your jacket and nodded, giving him a thumbs-up.

“Can we stop by the ice cream shop on our way home? I’ll pay for yours!”

“Sure.” He waved at you and started to walk towards the stairs, climbing them two steps at a time.

When he was out of your sight, you took a deep breath, thankful that you had someone like Jake in your life. He was the best friend you could ever ask for and he always knew how to lighten up the mood when you were feeling sad.

As you entered the classroom, you scanned the different tables to try and see who was missing. When your eyes landed on Sunghoon, you forced out a smile his way that he didn’t reciprocate. Instead, he looked away from you and focused on his notebook in front of him, a sad look in his eyes you couldn’t ignore.

Still, you wouldn’t ask him about it. You would wonder about the source of his sadness for the remainder of the class, trying to think of ways to cheer him up, completely oblivious to the fact that you were the source of all the pain he carried right now.

After all, how could Sunghoon admit his feelings for you when what you had with Jake was simply too perfect for him to ruin?

Omg you put out yet another masterpiece. I don’t know how tf to word my thoughts about it. One, I literally love their dynamic. It’s not the typical extrovert!reader x shy!boy. How he isn’t as he seems but doesn’t care enough to correct anyone and just goes on with his life. How she was always the strong and dependable one, but it wasn’t as easy as it seems- I really relate to that.

I wanted to slap Sunghoon frequently throughout this like don’t be such a lil wimp smh I get not knowing how to word things but tell her that at the least The drunk scene got my hopes up just for them to be crushed LOL

Your eyes were looking all over the place as you walked into the venue for the awards ceremony, as ever, there were familiar faces all over the place, making sure that you smiled to as many of those that you recognised as possible whilst staying nice and close to where Jay was too.

Jay had a close eye on you as the two of you walked, standing just a little way back from the rest of the boys as they walked in too, following the members of staff who were pointing the group to where their table was.

“Are you alright?” Jay asked as soon as you reached your table, noticing your names side by side to the left side of the table, looking ahead at the stage.

Your head nodded as you took a shaky breath, trying your best to stay relaxed. As ever, the business of award ceremony season soon started to creep up on you, reminding you of how overwhelming it could all be, even whilst Jay seemed to take it all in his stride.

“I think we might need to go and do an interview before we sit down,” Jay informed you as he listened into conversation, “I promise that we won’t be too long doing it though.”

“Don’t worry, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Jay smiled appreciatively at how understanding you were as Jungwon began to round them all up, following a member of staff across to where a couple of the broadcast stations were doing interviews. You stayed sat at the table, minding your own business until the chair beside you scraped along the floor, a figure deciding to take a seat in it.

“Why’s Jay left you all alone at a place like this?” The man asked you from your right side.

As you looked across, you recognised Hyunjin’s face straight away. You offered him a weak smile, not quite sure what to do or say as you looked around for where Jay and the group had gone, only to not find them anywhere in sight.

With no one else around the two of you, Hyunjin decided to take the chance to get to know you. It didn’t take long before he was asking all about you, laughing and joking with you, unaware of the group’s interviews finishing up, heading back across to the table.

“Who’s that?” Jay asked any of them as he looked across the table and saw the back of someone sat beside you, spotting you laughing straight away as you spoke to them.

Whilst Jay hung back, Sunghoon and Heeseung kept walking towards the table, soon recognising that it was Hyunjin that you were talking through. Their presence quickly made Hyunjin go silent, turning around to see Jay following behind them too.

“Hello,” Jay nervously spoke as soon as he met Hyunjin’s eyes, folding his arms across his chest. “It seems that you’re in my seat, do you mind if I take my seat back?”

Hyunjin nodded, offering you a warm smile as he stood up from the chair, greeting the boys too. The moment Hyunjin left the chair, Jay sat himself back down in it, placing a hand against your thigh, making sure that Hyunjin caught it before he walked back to where his own group were sat.

“He was nice,” you told the boys as they all sat back down at the table with you too, “you guys would like him too,” you added, only to feel the grip that Jay had against the top of your leg tighten as he listened to you speak.

His actions didn’t go unnoticed by the boys either as they noticed Jay’s expression tensing up. “We prefer to just keep to the people that we trust,” Sunwoo told you, trying his best to encourage a change of subject around the table.

“But he seems really friendly.”

“He’s not as friendly as us though,” Jay muttered underneath his breath.

“I know that, I’m just saying that he was nice to me.”

As you looked across to Jay to reply to him, you noticed his expression for the first time. You were confused as to why he looked so irritated until you looked across to Jake who mouthed the word jealous back across to you.

“I bet his group aren’t as good as you guys are,” you spoke up again, spinning things around as you tried to make Jay feel better. His smile turned up slightly as he listened to you, knowing that he was definitely better than Hyunjin was for you.

Your eyes looked around the table for reassurance as the boys all watched Jay too, with Riki especially nodding at you, letting you know that you were doing the right thing.

“Have you guys got anymore work to do before the ceremony starts, or are you staying here now?” You enquired, reaching under the table to rest your hand over the top of Jay’s, intertwining your fingers in tightly with his to be able to squeeze his hand.

As Jungwon talked you through the group’s plans, you were relieved to hear that they were done. The last thing you needed was for them to go away again and to risk someone else approaching you whilst you were alone.

“That means that I can keep an eye on you,” Jay whispered across to you.

“Why would that be? Were you perhaps a little jealous?”

“No,” Jay firmly stated, tightening his grip against your hand, “if you think that I’m jealous about someone like Hyunjin then you’re very much mistaken.”

Jay’s comment had several of the boys stifling laughs as they struggled not to chuckle to themselves. It was apparent to everyone that Hyunjin’s appearance by your side had gotten under Jay’s skin, no matter how much he wanted to suggest otherwise.

The way he bit down on his bottom lip or stared at every single guy who got a little too close to your table let everyone know that he was unsettled. He hated anyone being around you, much preferring to keep you all to himself.

“It’s a good job that you’re here to protect me now then,” you teased, resting your head down against Jay’s shoulder. “I’m not saying that you were jealous, but if you were, then you really didn’t need to be Jay.”

“I wasn’t jealous of him.”

“Course you weren’t.”

Jake’s mutters had Jay’s eyes flickering across the table, staring across at him. “Excuse me for wanting to keep Y/N safe, especially at an event as busy as this one.”

Your head shook as Jake held his hands up to try and protest his innocence. “You can see in your eyes how jealous you were,” Jake told him, winding Jay up even more as his grip got even firmer on you to keep you by his side.

“Let’s try and forget about it,” you suggested, “you guys aren’t going anywhere for the rest of the night, which means that no one will come near me.”

Jay’s head nodded at your suggestion, shooting a glare at the rest of the boys too. There was no way that he was going to admit to being jealous, especially when he would have to admit to being jealous of Hyunjin of all people.

“Stay by my side for the rest of the night,” Jay whispered to you.

“I’m not going anywhere; I think your grip is too tight to let me go anywhere anyway.”

“Sorry,” Jay weakly chuckled, “I don’t want anyone else to come near you, you’re only supposed to be mine.”

“No one else is, I promise.”

Heeseung:

As you walked up the stairs, Heeseung followed behind you, managing to get into the spare room with you before you closed the door on him.

“You can’t just walk away,” he told you, sitting down on the bed as you did, making sure that you didn’t sleep on your argument.

Your eyes rolled, “I’m pretty sure I can.”

“I didn’t mean to take her side over yours earlier,” Heeseung began to tell you, watching your body turn away from him. “I know you think that I was siding with her, but I wasn’t, I just wanted to calm things down.”

“It didn’t come across that way at all Heeseung,” you replied to him, “maybe you worded it wrong, but I felt let down by you, you could have at least heard me out.”

“I would never mean to do that,” he sighed.

“But that’s how I fault,” you explained to him, “it was as if you were coming at me and blaming me for what had gone on.”

“I didn’t mean to make you feel that way,” Heeseung assured you, “I just didn’t know how else to end things.”

“You could have at least sided with me Hee.”

“I agree, I’m sorry.”

Jay:

Your eyes looked down as Jay placed his hands in front of you, thinking he was telling you to take a few breaths until his mouth opened.

“Drop it,” Jay told you as you found yourself getting more and more irritated with the girl in front of you, “you’re getting loud.”

Your head nodded, “and why’s that Jay?”

“I’m sorry,” he preceeded to tell the girl that you were arguing with. “Y/N can sometimes get a little passionate if she believes that she’s right, if she said anything hurtful to you, then I apologise for her.”

“Are you kidding me?” You yelled back at Jay, “why are you apologising when I didn’t do anything wrong? Why do you just presume that I was rude and hurtful to her.”

“I know what you’re like,” he told you.

“Great,” you spoke, beginning to walk away, only for Jay to pull you back. “You just think the worst of me and nobody else, don’t you?”

“I don’t ever think the worst of you Y/N,” Jake assured you, “but I’ve seen what you’re like in heated arguments.”

“Are you sure? You paint me out like I’m horrible.”

“You’re not horrible at all.”

Jake:

Your eyes widened as Jake told you to be quiet at the table, turning around to face him as he tried his best to diffuse the argument that was brewing.

“You don’t have to be right all the time,” Jake warned you, resting his hand against your shoulder, only for you to shrug him off.

A scoff came from you, “I see, take her side.”

“I’m not taking anyone’s side, I’m just saying that you need to not react,” he whispered, keeping his voice quiet so that no one else around the table could hear him, “she’s not looking to fight, so you shouldn’t be either.”

“Did you hear what she said to me?” You asked him in confusion, “why are you telling me not to fight back and stand up for myself? I thought you’re supposed to support me.”

“I do, when I think you’re right,” Jake sighed.

“I see,” you groaned, turning away from Jake, “it’s nice to know that you have my back Jake, and not some other random person’s back instead.”

“I’m not having anyone’s back,” Jake replied, getting slightly agitated, “I just don’t see the point of arguing for the sake of it.”

“I’ll be quiet for the rest of the night, don’t worry.”

“Y/N, come on.”

Sunghoon:

You spun around as soon as you heard Sunghoon yell at you to stop shouting, ignoring the girl that was shouting in front of you too.

“You’re better than this,” Sunghoon told you, turning you away from the girl so that she had no choice but to walk away.

Your stared hardened, “why yell at me?”

“Because I can’t exactly yell at a person that I don’t know, can I?” Sunghoon asked you in his defence, only for your head to nod back at him, wondering why he didn’t stand up for you and shout at her.

“Yelling at me makes it look like I’m the one to blame,” you informed Sunghoon, “she was the one that decided to come and have a go at me, not the other way around.”

“I was just trying to help,” Sunghoon told you.

“If you want to help me, understand what’s going on and stop the person yelling at me,” you suggested, “not just going for me.”

“I didn’t feel comfortable telling her to stop when I don’t know her,” he frowned, running a hand through his hair.

“Now she thinks that you blame me for this.”

“I don’t blame you.”

Sunoo:

Your eyes shot across at Sunwoo as he told the girl that you were arguing with to go, telling her that she’d save herself a lot of hassle than arguing.

“I think we should go too,” Sunwoo told you once the girl had gone, trying to hold your hand, only for you to move away.

Your head shook, “what did you mean hassle?”

“I just meant that you’re not exactly the easiest person to argue with,” Sunwoo tried to defend, not realising that he was digging himself a bigger hole, “chances were she probably didn’t mean to upset you anyway.”

“You didn’t hear what she said,” you told him, staring wide eyed across at Sunwoo, “you’re just presuming that I was in the wrong, what sort of person do you think I am?”

“I’ve argued with you Y/N,” Sunwoo reminded you.

“So that just automatically makes you think that I’m to blame,” you huffed, “thanks for your support, Sunwoo, what would I do without you?”

“I didn’t mean it like that,” he tried to tell you, but you were already starting to walk off, “where are you going Y/N?”

“Somewhere that I’m at least supported.”

“I do support you Y/N.”

Jungwon:

A hand pulling you back quickly stopped you from launching your drink at the girl in front of you as she continued to bad mouth you to your face.

“Y/N, come on,” Jungwon told you as he tried to pull you back, not wanting to see you get hurt or into any kind of trouble.

Your head shook, “she started it Jungwon.”

“Come on,” he repeated as the girl began to plead innocence too, screaming at Jungwon that the argument was your fault. “I brought you here to support me, not so that you could start fights with people.”

“Me?” You gasped, pulling your hand out of his hold. “I didn’t start anything; I was just standing up for myself. I can’t believe that you’re listening to her and not to me.”

“I’m trying to fix things,” he defended.

“Then why tell me that I’m the one that started the argument,” you enquired, moving out of his hold, “why pick someone over me?”

“I’m not picking anyone,” Jungwon huffed, “if you weren’t the one to start the argument, then I’m sorry for saying it.”

“It’s not if, I wasn’t the one to do it.”

“Alright, I’m sorry Y/N.”

Ni-ki:

You slammed the front door behind you as the two of you returned home from your evening, blocking Riki out as you threw yourself down on the sofa.

“Are you going to ignore me all night long?” He quizzed as he followed you into the room, “you can’t stay quiet with me forever Y/N.”

Your eyes quickly widened, “do you want to try?”

“Is this still about me siding with the dancer?” He asked, your silence giving him his answer as you ignored him. “I’m sorry Y/N, but you can’t expect me to agree with you when I don’t, she was in the right this time.”

“How was she right?” You scoffed in disbelief, “she told me that I was wrong about what studio to find you in, so when I proved her wrong, I made sure that she knew it.”

“You kicked off for no reason,” he told you.

“How?” You challenged, turning to face him, “you didn’t see the smug smile on her face Riki when she tried to tell me that I was wrong.”

“You should’ve been the bigger person and ignored her,” he explained, “going back didn’t do anyone any favours.”

“Why don’t you spend the night at hers then?”

“That’s unfair Y/N.”

after much consideration, you’ve reached the conclusion that you haven’t fallen for sunghoon. your heart is skipping beats because of arrhythmia and you’re persuading your mom to get you an appointment.

you simply can’tfall for sunghoon. he’s way out of your league ( see, you’re not shy to admit that ) besides, you don’t know each other. you don’t know about him but to you, sunghoon is just an ideal classmate, or a close acquaintance, or simply a friend, at most. moreover, here comes the best friend’s code : you can’t crush on your best friend’s crush, let alone date. you sleep with your guilt plagued mind everyday, knowing you and sunghoon are in ‘love’ behind your best friend’s back.

“yn,” you feel a push towards your shoulders, driving you out of your thoughts to find sunoo looking at you with concern written all over his face. “what are you thinking?”

you shake your head. “nothing,” another lie. well, you’ve been lying a lot recently. you don’t remember creating high walls of lies around you in just a few days, with only sunghoon knowing the way in, but again he’s looking at another lie you’ve made him believe.

“take a break if you need to. the play will start in a few minutes,” right, the play. you’re excited to see sunghoon and kyeong steal the show. you’re dying to see them receive best actors award for the night. you’re dying to have the annual school magazine print their picture on the front page. you’re excited for them, or so you tell yourself.

it’s embarrassing to know that somewhere inside, you feel a little bitter about the whole crew picking sunghoon without any recrutionary procedure. you don’t think he’s a bad actor, god, you can never. you haven’t seen him act but there’s nothing that boy can’t do. there’s a rumour spinning about how his mother was one of the best actors in Seoul’s best theatre crew. though, you don’t know how much of it is true.

but, that’s beyond the point. you don’t need to find his family history to know that he’s talented in all aspects. it’s crazy how similar sunghoon and yi kyeong are. you’re about to discard all those thoughts and continue with the procedure until you hear the commotion in the hallway.

“we have— oh my god, yn, thank god you’re here.” jake takes a breath of relief, walking towards you with a hopeful stare. “sunghoon has sprained his leg, we need a replacement.”

now, that isn’t the issue you want to deal with around ten minutes before the play. “what am i supposed to do about it?”

“do you know someone who can fit the role?” he questions further.

you’d be lying if you say you’re actually thinking of someone as a replacement, for your brain is too busy worrying about sunghoon as his injury. call it the godsent timing, because just then, your eyes fall upon the boy standing across the room. “how about seonghwa?”

“what? who, me? no,” he declines with an awkward laugh. “i have terrible stage fear. i’m sure no one wants to see a prince charming with overflowing anxiety.” yeah no, he’s right. besides, yi kyeong will be upset to know that not only she’s working with a substitute prince charming, but also, he has chronic anxiety.

“but they want a handsome prince charming.” jake isn’t half wrong either. they never held auditions for prince charming, proceeding to pick sunghoon as if the rest of the population is a joke. hence, the audience doesn’t care about skills, but rather, the looks. “just practise your scenes. we’ll pre-record your lines and schedule the play as the closing show.”

jake turns to look at you. “yn, can you please—”

“i’m sorry, do you know where sunghoon is?” the question falls off your lips almost immediately, without giving him any chance to speak. you hear something along the lines of ‘school backyard’ as a responseand sprint as if it’s the race for your life.

it’s basic human decency, you presume. had it been someone else, someone you haven’t even seen, you would still run, almost tripping and bumping into people. you would still grab a bunch of bandages and relief sprays from the medkit in the staff room if this were about someone else. it’s not just sunghoon, you tell yourself. he’s not special, especially to you.

“geez, did you forget to walk to something?” you snicker as soon as you spot him sitting by the stairs, browsing through what looked like twitter at the slight glance you managed to steal.

sunghoon chuckles, stuffing his phone inside the pocket of his padded coat. “you look tired.”

“yeah, i ran from the other side of the school and almost tripped thrice on my way here.” you feel him snicker at the irritation in your voice while you take a look at his ankles and start dressing— by the way, you notice that he has pretty toenails; and after recalling how pretty his fingers look, it makes you wonder if he gets his mani-pedi done every week or so. “gosh, do teachers know that their favourite student can’t even walk to save his life?”

“are you worri—”

“of course, i am!” and then a pause; sunghoon flaunts a taunting smirk in your direction and you realise how punchable his face looks. “i mean, anyonewould be worried. what if it’s a fracture instead? they treat you like a national treasure, everyone will go crazy.”

you’re not wrong.

everyone in the school, or even outside the institutional premises if possible, treasures sunghoon more than their lives. you still remember the day minhee took the blame on her after sunghoon accidently broke the principal’s bonsai, only for him to thank her by saying that she’s like his younger sister. long story short, there are numerous tales about people vouching for him and what not— it’s exhausting. the point is how big of a breaking news it would be when his ‘fans’ will know that sunghoon hurt himself and won’t be attending school for the next couple of days, probably. you wonder if people will still watch the play once they know that their beloved sunghoon isn’t the male lead anymore.

“how long do you think it’ll take to heal?” it’s an attempt to strike a conversation and you’re glad sunghoon took the initiative. you were starting to feel embarrassed with his ankles in your hand.

“hm, three days? or four? maybe a weak? depends on how well you’re taking care of yourself.”

“four days,” another pause, he tends to think before tapping on your shoulder, making you look up at him. “do you want to go on a date with me?”

it’s like you’ve experienced culture shock. “what?”

“what? we have one due from the last time,” he smirks again, and you realise that he has been smirking a lot late. it’s beyond extents and makes you want to wipe that smirk off his face. “so, do you want to, you know, four days later?”

it’s back, the arrhythmia. you seriously need to get yourself checked before cardiac arrest knocks on your door. oh, and you’d love to punch his good for nothing handsome face but you don’t, maybe because he’s injured. after all, how is a man supposed to live with a broken leg and nose?

“looks like you’ve hit your head too.” you stand up, handing him the remaining bandages before storming off the venue. little did you know that your cheek started heating up the moment you looked into his eyes.

“hey, you didn’t give me an answer!” and you don’t want to either. you walk away, assuming someone would come and assist him to the main building because if you stay next to him for another second, you’ll go crazy. you absolutely hate coming to terms with your feelings but maybe, maybe you do have slight infatuation with sunghoon; and maybe, you need to get onto it with kyeong before it’s too late.

.

.

.

“and the last scene? i was screaming internally—”

“can we talk?”  you interrupt kyeong, partly because your ears will bleed if you heard another word about how ecstatic acting with seonghwa was and partly because you actuallywant to talk.

she stops, slight nervousness settling on her face. “yeah, sure.”

“about your crush,” it’s just three words and you’re already willing to leave the conversation taking place on your own accord. “okay, all i’m saying is that i like him too. i’m sorry, please don’t be mad.”

and then you hear her laugh, out of everything. a part of you wants to scream because you just disclosed an important info, something you don’t even want to acknowledge yourself, and she’s laughing. moreover, it’s about the love of her life. your friendship is at stake and she’s laughing. perhaps you have a broken humour for not getting the joke.

“why would i be mad?” you blink, wondering if you heard her right. not like you were expecting her to go off and beat you in the middle of the street at 9 pm, but there’s always a chance. “i don’t think i have a chance with him either way. so, i’ll just root for you.”

this is why you think sunghoon and yi kyeong are perfect for each other. they both are nice, literal saints, embodiments of kindness, not a vile cell inside of them. as for you, you had your sibling’s snack last evening and stepped on your mom’s foot while running away across the household. you don’t think sunghoon has even stepped on an ant. instead, he seems the type to help them navigate or something.

“i feel bad now that you’re giving up,” you confess, and it’s true. probably the truest truth you’ve said so far. you feel frustration pent up inside you, threatening to overflow any second. “why did i have to fall for sunghoon out of all the people?!”

“wait, sunghoon?” kyeong asks, dumbfounded, or rather, confused.

“yes, we’re talking about sunghoon, right?” okay, you don’t have a good feeling about the direction this conversation is heading towards.

“no?” she clarifies and the look on your face morphs into visible panic. “i don’t like sunghoon.”

“what?” you yell, turning a few passing heads towards you. however, you pay them no mind. “i thought you liked sunghoon because of the name on your eraser. p-s-h, park sunghoon, it makes sense!”

kyeong shakes her head in denial. “no, it’s p-s-h, park seonghwa. i like seonghwa and not sunghoon!”

an awkward pause follows. it’s a mess inside your head. you abso-fucking-lutely can’t believe the way you misunderstood the whole situation, and got yourself into a problem with seemingly no way out. you could’ve asked her about the eraser but you didn’t, proceeding to make your own assumptions and ending up in an even bigger issue.

yi kyeong gasps, pulling you out of your thoughts. “oh my god, then you have a crush on sunghoon?” that phrase doesn’t surprise you anymore. “i thought you liked sunoo.”

maybe, that surprises you a bit. you remember fawning over sunoo, thinking about him all day, reading and re-reading your conversations with him. being with sunoo has always been the highlight of your day, yet you don’t recall thinking about him ever since sunghoon walked into your life. you didn’t seem to mind when sunoo hung out with other people but you feel as if you have a knife by your neck whenever you spot sunghoon with others.

you simply don’t know what’s happening to you. “yeah, uh, surprise?” and this isn’t the time to laugh but you do, trying to lighten the burden on your shoulders. “i’m not really sure if i like sunghoon yet.” liar, you are. you may deny it till the end of the time but you know you’re falling for sunghoon; slowly and gradually, but you are.

“didn’t you just say you like sunghoon, though?” she smirks as if she can see through the lies you tell yourself. “well, whatever. at least, we don’t have to be love rivals.” yeah, maybe there’s onegood thing about this whole situation. imagine having a crush on your best friend’s crush, embarrassing. but again, being in this situation built over misunderstandings is even more embarrassing, it’s eating you out.

at this point, you don’t even care about you, or your so-called reputation if someone discloses this whole thing to the public. you don’t care about sunoo, nor do you give two flying fucks to your seemingly dead feelings for him. you only have one thing on your mind : park sunghoon.

it isn’t about how you feel towards him. you’re still in the maybestage. perhaps, you don’t like sunghoon and this is just your fatigued brain coming up with bizzare conclusions. you remember falling for sunghoon the day he walked you home. however, the next day, you were back to normal. you didn’t remember shit about butterflies and zoos. perhaps, it’s the same this time as well. so, you don’t care about your feelings, but you can’t seem to ignore how he feels towards you.

to sunghoon, who doesn’t have any idea about the truth lying within, every second of this is true. every moment, every step, every word, every touch, every gaze, every smile, everything. he thinks you like him. no, actually, he’s convinced that you like him. and sunghoon being the kindest person on earth is trying his best to like you back, to know you beyondeveryone else’s perception of who you are. he greets you every morning over texts and bids you good night. he asks if you’re doing okay, if you need help with assignments, if you’re down for an evening stroll— he’s giving hiseverything; and you always turn his advances down, never daring to cross the wall you’ve created between you and him.

sunghoon takes one step towards you, and you take four away from him.

kyeong bids her goodbyes at the intersection from where you both have opposite ways home. you had planned to spend the night at her place, only for your mother to refuse, saying she has a few things she needs to talk to you about. you halt at the intersection, staring and sighing at the night sky, contemplating how mess of a life you have as if it isn’t the consequences of your own actions.

“yn?” you close your eyes. now is not the time. sunoo is like the last person you want to see tonight. “what are you looking at?” he chuckles, mirroring your actions as he follows your gaze and looks up at the empty night sky as well.

“your mom,” he frowns at your reply, sending a sour stare your way. sunoo isn’t the biggest supporter of your mom jokes, actually. “what are you doing here? didn’t you leave for home long ago?”

“yes but,” he pulls out what seems like your scarf from his bag, handing it out to you. “you forgot this. sunghoon said he would’ve given it to you himself but his leg … you know. don’t be sad that your boyfriend couldn’t make it, though. he said he’d be at school tomorrow.”

boyfriend, right. it feels odd hearing it from sunoo, and you and sunghoon aren’t even dating yet. would he still be able to say those words with ease if he knew you have a crush on him, or rather, usedto? overthinking apart, you’re glad sunoo came to return your scarf or your mother wouldn’t have let you inside tonight. it doesn’t take you realise that sunghoon and sunoo are actually close, and they have gotten even closer over the past few days thanks to you and your crush on sunghoon.

maybe, sunoo is the only one who can help you out. “can i ask you about something?” he nods, and you narrate your whole story about how you borrowed the eraser from yi kyeong, sunghoon misunderstanding the setting, the person kyeong actually has a crush on and everything else, all the things except the fact that you like sunoo— usedto.

“can you get more stupid?” that’s the first thing sunoo comes up with after you update him on your dilemma.

“how am istupid when sunghoon assumed everything in the first place?” you slap his arm playfully, earning an exaggerated response. “what should i do?”

sunoo scoffs. “tell him the truth.” god, no, asking him was the wrong-est move you’ve ever made. “don’t look at me like that! i hope you know you’re basically playing with that poor boy’s feelings.” that’s right. that’s the phrase; playing with his feelings. you didn’t want to accept it initially, you’re not the type to play with anyone’s feelings and what’s happening right now is a big misunderstanding.

however, hearing it from sunoo makes it sound even worse. not to mention, you feel awful. you try to imagine sunghoon’s reaction after you tell him the truth. you couldn’t bring yourself to do that. what would you do if you were in his shoes? how would you react? maybe you’d end up actually hating him, scream and shout, act like a dramatic bitch, and whatnot; but sunghoon doesn’t seem the type to do that. he doesn’t come off as someone who’d shout at you. maybe, he’ll say it’s okay, and thank you for coming clean, and move on as if nothing happened.

the problem is, even if he’s heartbroken, he wouldn’t let you know; and you, being yourself, would believe it and stamp him as just another passerby in your life.

“how do i bring it up to him?” you mumble, looking at sunoo. you’re thinking of another excuse in the back of your head. something along the lines of ‘hey, i don’t think you have to force yourself to like me yada yada—’ it sounds hella generous. you don’t want to turn this in your favour. even if sunghoon claims he’s not forcing himself to like you, you will convince him otherwise. that’s your thought process, your silly way out of this situation.

“just be straightforward.” sunoo interrupts your trail of thoughts. “you know, he lives just a street behind yours so if we hurry, we can make it before ten.” you take a look at your phone screen : 9:50pm. sunoo’s hand slips into yours as he sprints towards sunghoon’s house. you don’t know what time has to do with any of these. sure, ten at night is probably not the right timing to go visit someone but still, you have had your friends stand out of your window at two in the morning for impromptu midnight escapades.

maybe, sunghoon is one of those ‘good boys’ who goes to bed at ten sharp, without excuses. to be honest, it sounds very sunghoon-like. dinner at seven, studies following, and then to bed at ten, seems like something the one and only park sunghoon would do.

before you realise, you find yourself standing in front of what is supposed to be sunghoon’s house. it’s nice, beautiful, even. the garden is well maintained and you wonder if he’s into gardening. sunoo shoots a call to sunghoon, who peeks down at the street through his window just a few seconds later, waving at you before disappearing behind the grey curtains.

it’s cute, you think, and then decide that you’re crazy. no way, you just called park sunghoon cute. sure, you find him a bit interesting but not like you have a passionate crush on him. you can be one of those fans, nothing more.

a girl opens the door and you recall that she could be his sister. he talks about her every time you both complain about siblings. sunghoon helps himself down the stairs, using wall as support while his sister aids him shortly. you wonder if this is a wrong time to meet him. his ankle doesn’t look bad, not like you can actually see it, but back at school, he wasn’t even able to move it.

“how’s your leg?” the question falls off your lips instinctively, without giving him or sunoo, a chance to even breath in each other’s direction.

sunghoon smiles, looking down at his ankles before setting his eyes back on you. “quite better.” involuntarily, you reciprocate his smile, nodding before waving at his sister as well, who excuses herself shortly. “would you like to come in?”

“no, actually,” sunoo cuts in, giving you a look of assurance. “we want to talk about something. shewants to, actually.” and sunoo steps aside, leaving you and sunghoon alone to talk everything out and clear all the misunderstandings.

“so, the eraser,” you begin, hesitatingly, looking at sunoo who shoots you thumbs up from a distance. “it actually belongs to yi kyeong. i borrowed it for a test since i didn’t bring mine. the name too, the psh on it stands for park seonghwa, and not park sunghoon.” you want to dig a hole and die because first, this is so embarrassing. sunghoon looks at you unfazed as if he’s too stunned to speak; and second, your voice practically dies towards the end of your sentence, making it more terrible than it already is.

sunghoon doesn’t speak for next thirty seconds. he simply looks at you, blinking occasionally, making you wonder if your confession traumatised him so much that he lost his verbal abilities. you won’t blame him. this whole thing is hurtful enough to give anyone a trauma. furthermore, as you’re about to speak more, he lets out a dry chuckle, almost convincing you that he has gone crazy. “that’s it?”

that’s it? that’s it? that’s allhe has to say? you’re about to lose your mind.

“i mean, i’m sorry for not bringing it up earlier,” you kind of want to scream in the middle of the road because you went through all this trouble, beating your mental health to death, only for him to chuckle and say that’s it? then you ponder if it’s sarcasm, or if sunghoon wants a written apology from you, one that you will post on the school’s forum and recite in front of the whole school at morning assembly. you’re marginally close from ripping your hair out, strand by strand.

“it’s okay. you couldn’t tell me before because i took it so seriously. it’s my fault for jumping to conclusions.” you’re almost in tears once again. had it been someone else, or let alone someone else, had it been youin his shoes, you would’ve made a scene; and sunghoon is here, in front of you, taking the blame for something that isn’t his fault in the first place.

“no, sung—”

“i said it’s okay. i’m glad you brought it up. you don’t have to worry about it anymore.” he cuts you off, reassuring you again and again. all this time, you’ve been thinking about yourself, never really considering him and when you finally give him a chance to call you out, he turns the situation in your favour. “honestly, i’m relieved.”

“sunghoon, what are you doing outside?” an unfamiliar voice breaks in before you could respond to his words. you run your eyes around, who sunghoon seems to have forgotten about, only to realise he has already left. turns out, the voice belonged to sunghoon’s mother and godbless, she’s just as pretty as him, or even more. “and you should invite your friend inside. it’s cold out here.”

“yn’s not a friend. they’re more of a,” ain’t no way. if sunghoon’s planning to say what you’re thinking then there’s no way he hasn’t gone crazy. “classmate. they were about to leave.” his mother nods, smiling at you as she walks inside, leaving you and sunghoon basking in silence. suddenly, all the words inside your mouth die down, leaving a taste of speechlessness as you mutter a silent goodbye to him.

“you good? why do you look pale all of a sudden?” sunghoon asks, stepping forward to check your temperature, only for you to step back as an empty frown settles on his face.

“i know i lied but i always thought we were at least friends,” you say it with a chuckle, having sunghoon retreat his hand as you turn around, proceeding on your way back home. “take care of yourself.”

it’s funny because all this time, you’ve been stepping away from sunghoon, never letting him approach you, taking multiple steps away from him; but just watching him step away from you feels like the life inside you has been knocked out. but it’s fine, this is what you’ve wanted.

and just like that, you and sunghoon get all the way back to step one, being what you initially were : classmates

NOTE. hi this took so long help i hope you haven’t forgotten me ( hi it’s caelin bffies ) anyway only two chapters to go yeahhh however, they might take even more time to come out since i’m moving to another state this wednesday. so, i’ll be busy for the rest of this month, then i have college entrances next month so i’ll be busy till july 20th too :( i don’t think i’ll get time to post but i’ll definitely try to update soon after !

“Do I look okay?"

Heeseung sighs, locking his car before setting his eyes on you. "This is the fourth time you’re asking me that."

"Sorry, I need constant reassurance.” You snicker, rolling your eyes as you make your way to the lift, pressing the buttons for the first floor. There are times when you think parking lots constructed on several lays into the ground are useless. You’ve barely seen anyone use any of them except the one on Basement-One, besides Heeseung. That man just drove down to the third basement.

Silence follows the two of you wherever you go, though comfortable, fortunately. After the thirty-minute-long car ride, you conclude that he’s not half bad. At least, not as much as he pretends to be over text, reminding you about your due rent every other day. Perhaps, it’s just a cover for today since he’s your ‘boyfriend’ and is already into the role. Either way, you’d love to enjoy the elite treatment from him.

The ’ding’ goes off, remarking your arrival at the destined floor. Heeseung slides his hands inside his pocket before noticing you fix your dress obsessively.

“You look beautiful,” He compliments with an irritated sigh. “Stop overthinking.” He puts your hand around his arm, entering the wedding hall, as if you’re the one getting married, instead of your cousin.

Five minutes in, and you already want to leave. You aren’t the most socially active member of your family, and witnessing around a hundred people gathered together is giving you a headache. Your gaze follows along the garlands adorned on the chairs and tables, content with the choice of flowers. At least, there’s one thing good about today.

“Oh my god, yn, is that you?!” That’s your aunt, probably the only person you actually enjoy talking to in your family. However, watching her approach you with a glass of champagne irks your ends. “It has been so long since we last talked."

"Right,” You respond with an awkward laugh, feeling a bit guilty about not being able to reciprocate her enthusiasm. You wonder what has gotten you exhausted all of a sudden. “By the way, this is my boyfriend, Heeseung."

He shoots her his best smile. One that makes you feel like he’s flirting with her. "Nice to meet you,” That’s the modest you’ve seen him to date, yet exaggerated.

“You’ve earned yourself a handsome boyfriend,” She sends you a teasing glare, making you smile consequentially. Meanwhile, you miss the way the corner of Heeseung’s lips curls up. “You should go meet your mom. She’d loved to see you."

You nod, holding back your laugh. Your aunt isn’t wrong. Your mom would love to see you. However, not because she’s meeting her daughter after months, but because she’s delighted to see you attending family functions and snatching everyone’s chances to comment on your incompetence.

That’s how things have always been. The compliments were never about getting a perfect score but rather about how you must keep it up and stay a step ahead of all your cousins. Though, it simply doesn’t matter now. You’ve moved out. You live separately and no longer have to follow your mom’s instructions. Not like she cares. You’re doing well in college, and it turns out that she’s content with that.

"You came.” Lost amidst your thoughts, you don’t realize that your mother is already standing before you. “With your boyfriend, of course."

"Lee Heeseung,” He greets her, his gaze fluttering between your mom and your saddened face. Unknowingly, a sour wave passes over him as he tries to come up with something to lighten the atmosphere, only for you to beat him to it.

“Can we leave now?” It’s an odd question. Well, strange enough for Heeseung. You’re indifferent as always, and the expression on your mom’s face doesn’t seem to faze either. “You wanted me to attend the wedding and introduce you to him. We’re done here, I suppose."

Heeseung doesn’t know why, but he hopes your mom will stop you. It’s funny because he doesn’t expect it from his mom either. However, his hopes end up trashed as he notices your expression stiffen.

Your mom smile at a guest behind you, paying you no mind. "Suit yourself,” And you scoff at yourself for thinking she’d ever tell you to stay.

You should be used to this by now; you are, yet it hurts more this time. Maybe because you are with Heeseung and you wanted your mom to at least pretend to be a good mother in front of your boyfriend? Whatever. You close the chapter, stamping it as a moment of weakness.

“Looks like you’re not on good terms with her,” Heeseung mumbles, smiling at your aunt, who waves at you both from a distance. He anticipates a sarcastic comeback, only for you to laugh as if he just told a joke.

“Man, I hoped she’d try to be decent in front of my boyfriend,” You sigh, downing another glass of wine.

Heeseung throws his arms around your shoulders, catching you by surprise as he leans down to your ears. “Don’t worry. I won’t break up with you just because your mom is a bitch."

He wonders if he’s allowed to use that term, only to smile in relief when you chuckle at his flirtatious comment. Heeseung doesn’t remember the last time he cared about making someone smile. No, he’s not mean; neither is he a cold and distant person who only knows how to make someone’s life a living hell. He simply doesn’t care about that. Heeseung believes in the art of giving and receiving. While he’s giving you a reason to smile, he’s not sure about the him on the receiving end when it comes to you.

"You can leave.” You say, catching him off guard.

“That’s all?” He checks the time before tending to you once again. “Just forty-five minutes? I thought you said one day."

You smirk. "Why, do you enjoy being my boyfriend?” Heeseung doesn’t reply, excusing your question with a chuckle and escorting you out of the venue. “Shall we go back?"

"You can go back. I’ll go to the bar.” He doesn’t ask more questions, walking out as you proceed towards the bar opposite to the wedding hall on the same floor.

Thinking about it now, your day with Heeseung wasn’t half bad. Well, just forty-five minutes or maybe an hour, but you enjoyed it, surprisingly. Besides, he’s good at pretending. You really didn’t expect someone like him to be so good at playing roles. After all, all Heeseung ever does is sit at home and play Mario Kart, with ocassional outings because of 'work.'

Usually, you don’t drink past two shots. Today happens to be an exception. You’ve already had two glasses of wine at the wedding, and it doesn’t help you. So you sit by the counter, ordering almost everything on the list because, after all, everything’s on your cousin’s new family today, and you might as well enjoy the riches after living like a ragged bitch for months now.

However, despite drinking like you’ll never see alcohol again in your life, you know damn well that you’re not hallucinating. You recognize the man sitting at a distance as your ex-boyfriend and, if your eyes aren’t deceiving you, he’s with a girl.

Now, you don’t know that concerns you. He dumped you exactly a week ago. However, you spent nights crying and trying your shots at moving on while he’s in the bar, enjoying his life to the fullest. And you’re not the one to hold grudges but, sometimes, it is the answer.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” A scoff escapes your lips as you approach him, earning all sorts of stares from the woman. “Is she your new chick-fling? Are you going to dump her after in months too?"

He stands up, letting an annoyed sigh fall of his lips as the girl with him rolls her eyes. "Yn, you’re dr—”

“Yeah, I’m drunk.” You cut him off mid-sentence. “But I’m sober enough to see that you’re here with her when we broke up barely a week ago."

Junhwan snickers, running his fingers through his hairs as if he’s about to fight for his laugh. "And what about it? We’ve broken up. I can do whatever I want."

He’s not half wrong, but where’s the compassion? Seeing him like this, you wonder how many of those 'I love yous’ shared with him were genuine. You hate yourself for getting mad over your ex, who clearly didn’t deserve you in the first place. It’s alcohol, you conclude.

"Looks like I was the only one wasting my time being sad over an asshole like you. I should have fun too, right?” At this point, you’re barely processing your words. You feel your vision turn hazy, head feeling dizzy. However, revenge sounds much fruitful now. “Okay, how about this; I’ll sleep with the first man I bump. Sounds pretty fun, isn’t it?"

He grabs your arms, preventing you from falling as you stumble because of your heels. "You’ve lost your mind."

"I don’t see how that concerns since we’ve broken up.” You think that’s a marvelous comeback because of alcohol. Maybe it actually is. It’s highly likely that you’ll regret your decision tomorrow but right now, it’s about your dignity. ( Again, sleeping with the first man you bump into isn’t going to improve your dignity but reminders : you’re under influence )

Collecting your pride, you turn around, proceeding to walk out of the bar before you bump into someone. Upon a closer look, you learn that it’s a man and, after a much, much closer look, you realize that it’s Heeseung. It’s good, very good. Heeseung is better than that douche canoe.

You smirk, putting you hand on his shoulder as his hand involuntarily snaked around your waist. “Do you want to sleep with me?” And rest all is history.

heeseung thinks you should be more than friends.

no— he believes. it’s an odd thought for ten in the morning, in middle of chemistry lesson, but heeseung doesn’t mind. and just like an important presentation, he has all the reasonings jotted down on the back of his notebook, doodles with vines and hearts.

heeseung has known you for four years. not you, heeseung; he has known you for four years. he isn’t the type to stand out amongst the crowd, for he seemingly dissolves into it like fine particles, almost too invisible to be sedimented. he doesn’t enjoy attention. heeseung likes to be the to sit in middle of a row with ear phones and math occupying most of his day.

coming back to the point, four years, they have been terriblefor him. the day you transferred to his middle school, his life turned upside down. you had taken the last bench, near the window, and still managed to have everyone in the class look at you as if you were the subject to their queries. you were the type to throw paper balls in the middle of the class. you made snarky comments, disturbed the momentum, ruined the decorum, destroy his peace of mind, made it hard for him to focus— there are so many reasons why you flipped his life style.

you don’t know heeseung, you never triedto, until highschool. you knew there’s a boy in your class, too quiet to mingle, too loud in his mind to speak anything.

you knew there was a lee heeseung in your class, that’s it. that was your story.

now, in highschool first year, you know there’s a lee heeseung in your class. the same lee heeseung who was your classmate in middle school. the one who keeps listening to that one tchaikovsky piece over and over again while solving math. the one who always caught your attention, but never mystic enough for you to reach him out.

you’ve known him for three months now, and that’s how heeseung’s story began.

there are so many reason as for why you and heeseung should be more than just friends. he has known you for four years, that’s a lot more than any other friend you have in the school. he’s the only one you seek at 2 am for late night escapades. his notes are the only reliable source of study material you refer to two weeks before exams. his number is the only one you’ve saved with a ’<3’ on your phone, and many more.

heeseung doesn’t remember taking a liking to you at all. he remembers calling you annoying in front of everyone in middle school. he remembers cursing out at you when his team lost relay because you tripped. he remembers all the moments he hurt you. heeseung also remembers spending first three months of highschool sitting next to you, but he doesn’t remember falling for you.

he doesn’t remember doodling your name on the corner of his text books. he doesn’t remember doing those silly compatibility tests with you on the palm of his hands. he doesn’t remember losing his breath when you hugged him instinctively after you won your first relay in highschool. heeseung doesn’t remember the important details.

once upon a time, there was you, that’s it. that’s his story. that’s his beginning and his end, all from you.

heeseung doesn’t remember falling for you but he realises that with every passing day, he falls even deeper. it’s like going down even after hitting rock bottom. heeseung recalls when you held his hand for a group picture with your middle school friend and his heart exploded into a million butterflies. it’s really nothing, just the way your hand fits in his; it’s literally five plus five, and yet your touch had him orbiting and ripping his hair out strand by strand when that sensation slipped inside his head every night.

hereallybelieves that you should be more than friends. heeseung believes you should be lovers instead.

but, then again it’s all inside his head; and you’re too busy being in love with jay to even notice his lovelorn eyes.
