“WATCH ME!” – Adventures hearing this battle cry in a high-pitched screeching voice while exploring glacial caves are advised to not actually stay and watch but to evacuate immediately. Not only is it usually accompanied by a series of chattering screams suggesting a decently sized group of icyclopes but it also means that at least one of them is about to do something spectacularly foolish - often to the detriment of said adventurers.

Skely-Ton Cleaning Crew – Medium swarm of Tiny undead, lawful evil

Cursed to kill and clean for all eternity. These little undead critters wander gloomy and long-forgotten dungeons deep beneath the surface. Driven by an unquenchable desire for new bones to add to their well-assorted collection, the skely-tons relentlessly attack any intruder stumbling into their holy corridors. The mysterious origin of their likewise insatiable urge to keep everything tidy might be linked to a sinister skeleton-statue, they call the Mother and devotedly venerate.

Undersnout Trooper – Tiny humanoid, lawful neutral

Gnawing and digging through the earth’s fathomless depths, these bustling creatures steadily increase the reach of their ever-growing tunnel cities. To simplify their lives they call everything important to them “Undersnout”. Themselves, their settlements and the center of their religious practices. Whether it is a good strategy or not is still in dispute.

Fungoid Blade Bearer – Tiny humanoid, unaligned

While some may argue that the fungoids are opportunistic or spineless, they simply have a completely alien perception of morality. Driven by an inexplicable motivation to bring its knowledge about their strange spore magic to use, a fungoid doesn’t follow concepts of evil and good or right and wrong. It rather lives by its own codex and forms spiritual bonds with whomever it deems worthy. If it does, this fungal creature is in fact an utterly loyal and trustworthy companion.

Nogbee Queen – Tiny monstrosity, unaligned

The nogbee‘s vaguely skull-shaped head is a macabre hint for a quite savage yet highly fascinating behaviour. Where common bees nest in rock crevices or hollow trees, this chunky insect builds its hives in skulls. Per se peaceful, a swarm of nogbees is more than capable to take one by force if no “uninhabited homes” are available. Because of its slightly magical nature, a nogbee queen favours skulls housing brilliant minds. Therefore it is not unusual to find them roaming close to derelict mage towers or lost druid covens.

Bristling – Tiny plant, unaligned

Already possessing the strong urge to bite anything stepping in range, the bristling is just as feisty as a grown up thistling. Fortunately, it lacks its adults’s distinctive mandibles yet. Nevertheless, this turnip-like creature has developed a peculiar way of attacking by simply catapulting itself towards its targets. The whistling sound the bristling emits while doing so, makes it an ideal alarm system for nocturnal camping in dangerous territories – if one can tame it…

Tundra Toddler – Small giant, chaotic neutral

This small-sized giant is in fact the offspring of the much larger and considerably more dangerous tundra trampler. Still lacking its parent’s stoic confidence and the arrogant belief of superiority, this half-grown creature is startled pretty easily. It usually only attacks as a last resort and it is very common for a spotted tundra toddler to try hiding in plain sight. Chasing or even hurting it, however, proves to be quite risky since every nearby boulder might actually be a fully grown tundra trampler ready to fiercely attack and defend its brood.

Glimmerling – Tiny dragon, chaotic neutral

I wish you a happy new year with tiny dragon fireworks!

This little glimmering critter is closely related to the sparkling. Belonging to the same whimsical genus of the sparkle dragons, both can release their characteristic glittering sparkles – even though for completely different reasons. While the sparkling uses them as a distraction to get safely get away, seeing the glimmerling’s ones usually means that the tiny dragon flew a bit too close to fire. While their bursting release is said to be quite impressive to look at, standing too close to the flammable sparkles proves to be quite dangerous…

Deer-Skulled Penguin Bat

Nothing fills the heart of a lost wanderer with more fear than a deer-skulled penguin bat’s eerily clicking chattering breaking the uncanny silence of frozen wastelands and icebound plains. While its appearance is bizarre per se, it surely isn’t the most remarkable trait of this peculiar creature. Instead of ears, it developed unusual sensory organs crowning the flightless bat’s compact body. These antler-like extensions not only react highly sensitive to any movement and double as effective weapons: ultimately sealing the fate of a potential victim, they also convey its exact location to all closely roaming deer-skulled penguin bats. Since this sinister critter prefers to hunt in packs, escaping proves to be nearly impossible once detected…

Cryo-Bot – Tiny construct, unaligned

The cryo-bot was invented and constructed for mainly two purposes: accompanying a spelunking search engine to actually retrieve the treasures it finds – or at least to keep them safe until help arrived. And as a quite unusual mobile solution to store valuable goods and keep supplies fresh. Many bots got lost over the centuries and are doomed to wander around in eternal search for their long-gone inventors. Consequently, they carry age-old wares of all kinds. Be it a relic of mysterious origin or a perfectly preserved apple from ancient times.

Iciclet – Tiny elemental, unaligned

Just as for its blazing cousin, the pebblet, the origin and actual nature of this icy critter is still to be clarified. While it possesses features of a creature, it is utterly unable to move or express thoughts and feelings in any way. Only two things seem to be certain – at least to some degree: an iciclet is usually found on the slopes of snowy volcanos where frost and flames clash into each other. And it can actually transform into a pebblet if subjected to magical fire. When doing so, caution is highly advised since the iciclet is prone to burst in the process, dealing a considerable amount of damage to anyone standing too close.

Thumbstall Outrider – Tiny humanoid, lawful good

I have the great pleasure to present you an alternate version of the Thumbstall Outrider and its trusty steed, the Elder Minkling. For their customization, one of my Critter Curators had the wonderful idea to give the Minkling some armor and asked for the Thumbstall’s visor to be closed. Figment of Ruin – Tiny celestial, any alignment

The manifested shape of a figment is said to be largely affected by the vulpecula’s current emotional state. In this regard, a figment of ruin might be born from the dark parts deeply buried in the tiny celestial’s subconscious only to emerge during intense phases of dreaming. While a figment of ruin is not evil per se and can in fact be a quite joyful companion, it is still surrounded by an air of melancholia or misery.

Eyebold – Tiny ooze, unaligned

While this peculiar critter might not be a feast for the eyes, it is most definitely a sight to see. Resembling a gross puddle of strangely pulsating mud at first glance, the eyebold lives up to be an affectionate companion if given the chance. It is known for vigilantly keeping an eye out for any dangers or threats and being able to change its host’s way of looking at things – quite literally. These beneficial traits make this tiny ooze – despite its repulsive appearance – a highly regarded creature. And after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Figment of Frost – Tiny celestial, any alignment

Just like its fiery kin, the figment if frost is born from the subconscious mind of a dreaming vulpecula. It is said that the slumbering creature‘s current condition or the place it rests in has a direct effect on the shape of the manifested figment. Thus, this peculiar celestial might be the result of a vulpecula hibernating on the freezing slope of a mountain or near the gelid waters of an icy stream.

While this little critter appears to be some kind of whimsical elemental, it is in fact the product of a vulpecula’s dream. Manifesting in the real world, a figment’s shape is influenced by the manifold facets of magical energy itself. The fiery variant is characterized by flaming fur and a strong affinity to anything related to scorching heat. Consequently, this creature can be found close to blazing places such as volcanos or in company of fire-wielding spell casters.

Ambervein Sapling – Tiny plant, unaligned

Like a quaintly calming aura surrounds the ambervein tree, so do countless rumours and myths. Legend has it that the growth of this peculiar plant can only be sparked by the very essence of a dying kind soul – be it a resolute paladin breathing her last breath while defending the defenseless or a warm-hearted druid willingly sacrificing themself for a greater cause. How much truth, however, this tragically romantic tale actually holds remains a mystery. What is certain is that the tree’s golden veins bristle with pulsating life and soothing energy – right from the fragile start of its everlasting existence.

Baby Giant Lava Slug – Tiny elemental, unaligned

Often mistaken for a separate genus, this fiery critter is in fact the offspring of the giant lava slug, gastropoda magmarosa. While it lacks the sturdiness and strength of its parents, this creature can still wreak havoc by leaving a trail of lava-like slime wherever it wanders. Despite this hazardous trait and their appetite for gems of all kinds, it is said that some eccentric adventurers raise and train these baby slugs to become vigorous mounts for battle.
